Ather Konarc vs Simple Wave: Which Electric Scooter Fits Your Priorities?

The Simple Wave leads the published comparison on power, speed, battery size, IDC range and storage, while the Ather Konarc S 161 was cheaper in Bengaluru and offers clearly stated warranty and service options. Compare exact variants before deciding.

There is no universal winner between the Ather Konarc and Simple Wave. In the closest published like-for-like comparison, the Simple Wave 3.7 kWh has more peak power, a higher claimed top speed, a slightly larger battery, longer IDC range and a shorter reported charge to 80%. The Ather Konarc S 161 was listed at a lower Bengaluru ex-showroom price and comes with clearly stated Ather warranty, service and charging options. Your best choice depends on the exact variant, daily distance, storage needs, riding position, charging access and city availability.

The figures below are variant-specific manufacturer claims or reported specifications from 2026 sources. They are not independent road-test results, and prices, deliveries, subscriptions and available trims can change.

Ather Konarc vs Simple Wave: the key differences

Comparison point Simple Wave 3.7 kWh Ather Konarc S 161 What it means
Peak motor power 6.4 kW 4.7 kW The Wave has the stronger published output.
Claimed top speed 90 km/h 70 km/h The Wave is the better fit for riders who regularly use faster urban corridors.
Battery capacity 3.7 kWh 3.5 kWh Capacity is close, but battery size alone does not determine usable range.
IDC range 171 km 161 km These are standardized claimed figures, not guaranteed real-world distances.
Reported charge to 80% 4 hours with a 750W offboard charger 5 hours 40 minutes with a 450W onboard charger The charging setup and battery state affect the result.
Reported Bengaluru ex-showroom price ₹1.60 lakh for LCD; ₹1.75 lakh for TFT ₹1.45 lakh for S 161 The Konarc was cheaper in this specific city-and-variant comparison.
Storage figures Up to 70 litres total; 63 litres under the seat, according to NDTV Auto 31-litre boot plus 2-litre front compartment The Wave has the larger published storage capacity.
Seat height 775 mm 770 mm Both are approachable on paper; a test sit is still important.
Front wheel and rear suspension 90/90-12 tyres; twin rear shocks 90/90-14 front and 100/90-12 rear; monoshock Hardware differs, but specifications alone do not prove better handling.

Autocar India’s 2026 comparison supplies the direct Wave 3.7 kWh versus Konarc S 161 figures. NDTV Auto’s report covers the broader Wave range, while Ather’s current Konarc FAQ supplies official variant, warranty and service information.

Why the exact variant matters

Neither name represents one fixed specification. Simple Wave batteries reportedly span 2.2 kWh to 5 kWh, with claimed ranges from 110 km to 243 km. Ather lists Konarc S IDC options of 100, 125, 161 and 200 km, but its FAQ said only the 125 km and 161 km versions were available in select cities when accessed in October 2026. Comparing a Wave S base model with a Konarc S 161 and calling the result a brand-wide verdict produces a misleading answer.

Equipment also changes within each lineup. Wave displays and connected functions vary by trim, and higher versions add features such as traction control, regenerative braking, hill hold, reverse or crawl modes and tracking. Ather distinguishes the Konarc S’s 7-inch DeepView display from the Konarc Z’s TFT touchscreen; the Z was marked “Coming soon,” not generally available. Confirm the build sheet for the scooter you can actually order.

Price, city and delivery status

Price comparisons must use the same city, tax basis and equipment level. Autocar reported Bengaluru ex-showroom prices of ₹1.60 lakh for the Wave LCD, ₹1.75 lakh for the Wave TFT and ₹1.45 lakh for the Konarc S 161 in its 2026 article. NDTV Auto reported a wider Wave range of ₹1.10 lakh to ₹1.90 lakh across variants. Ather’s FAQ gave a starting effective ex-showroom price of ₹99,999, which is not the price of the 161 km IDC version.

These are not on-road quotes. Registration, insurance, accessories, financing, delivery charges and any connected-service subscription can change the amount you pay. Availability is also location-specific: Ather stated that Konarc deliveries had begun in select cities, while the cited Wave reports do not establish a nationwide delivery schedule. Ask the dealer for a written, model-number-specific quotation showing every recurring and one-time charge.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to compare two quotes

  1. Write down the exact battery and display variant on each quotation.
  2. Check whether the amount is ex-showroom or on-road and whether state incentives are already deducted.
  3. Add the charger, extended warranty, connected plan, insurance and registration separately.
  4. Confirm the promised delivery date and cancellation or refund terms.
  5. Compare the final payable amount in your city rather than a headline starting price.

Range: IDC, TrueRange and daily commuting

IDC is a standardized test label used in published specifications. Ather additionally publishes TrueRange figures for Konarc S variants. Its FAQ lists 125 km IDC with 100 km TrueRange and 161 km IDC with 130 km TrueRange. Those labels should not be merged into one ranking: an IDC number and a TrueRange number describe different claims.

For the direct comparison, Autocar reports 171 km IDC for the 3.7 kWh Wave and 161 km IDC for the Konarc S 161. NDTV reports 110 km for the Wave S 2.2 kWh, 123 km for the Wave S 2.7 kWh and 243 km for the Wave+ 5 kWh. The 243 km figure is a manufacturer claim for that larger-battery version, not evidence that every Wave travels that far.

Real distance varies with rider weight, speed, gradients, traffic, temperature, tyre pressure, payload, software mode and accessory use. Plan your purchase around the distance you can cover with a comfortable reserve, not the largest number on a specification sheet. If your commute includes a return trip with no reliable charging point, treat the official figure as an upper reference and ask the dealer for the applicable riding-mode and warranty conditions.

Motor performance and road use

The Wave’s published 6.4 kW peak output and 90 km/h claimed top speed give it the paper advantage for quicker launches, overtaking and roads where 70 km/h would feel restrictive. The Konarc S 161 is listed at 4.7 kW and 70 km/h, which may be entirely adequate for dense city traffic and lower-speed commuting. Peak power is not a complete acceleration test; software limits, rider load, tyre grip and battery state influence how either scooter feels.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the Wave if you routinely travel on broad, faster roads and value headroom above typical urban speeds. Choose the Konarc if your routes are mostly congested city streets and you prefer the lower reported price of the S 161. Neither specification by itself proves superior braking, stability or safety, so use a supervised test ride on the roads you normally travel.

Charging hardware and routine

Autocar reports a 750W offboard charger for the compared Wave and four hours to 80%. Its Konarc S 161 comparison lists a 450W onboard charger and five hours 40 minutes to 80%. The times refer to the reported configurations, not a universal result from empty to full under every condition.

Ather’s FAQ describes the Konarc’s built-in 450W charger and an optional additional 450W charger for combined charging. It says the onboard unit itself cannot be upgraded. Ather also claims that an Ather Grid session can add up to 15 km in 10 minutes, or up to 30 km in 10 minutes for select variants. Those are manufacturer statements; delivered energy depends on the scooter’s state of charge, location and variant.

Questions to settle before ordering

  • Can you park close enough to a household socket every night?
  • Is the quoted charging time based on one charger or a combined setup?
  • Is the optional charger included, discounted or billed separately?
  • Does your route pass a compatible public charger, and is its use included in any subscription?
  • What happens to charging speed in hot weather or when the battery is nearly full?

Storage, passenger use and everyday practicality

Storage is one of the clearest practical differences. NDTV Auto reports up to 70 litres of total Wave storage, including 63 litres under the seat. Ather’s FAQ lists a 31-litre Konarc boot and a separate 2-litre front compartment. Helmet shape, charger size and the presence of a top box can change what actually fits, so bring your helmet and charging cable to the showroom.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Autocar lists a 920 mm Wave seat length and 775 mm seat height, versus a 770 mm Konarc seat height. The figures suggest both can suit a wide range of riders, with the Konarc slightly lower on paper. Seat length, floorboard room, grab-rail position and passenger knee angle matter as much as height. Sit on both scooters with your usual footwear and ask a passenger to join you before paying a booking amount.

Wheels, suspension and braking hardware

The compared Wave uses 90/90-12 tyres at both ends, a 220 mm front disc, a rear drum, a telescopic fork and twin rear shocks. The Konarc S 161 uses a 90/90-14 front tyre, a 100/90-12 rear tyre, a 220 mm front disc, a 130 mm rear drum, a telescopic fork and a monoshock.

The Konarc’s larger front wheel can appeal to riders who value the way a scooter rolls over broken surfaces, while the Wave’s twin-shock arrangement may suit buyers who prefer its load-support characteristics. These are design observations, not independent handling or braking results. Check ground clearance, turning radius, stand-over comfort and low-speed balance on an actual vehicle.

Displays, software and connected features

Feature lists are trim-dependent. NDTV reports that higher Wave versions can offer traction control, regenerative braking, hill hold, reverse or crawl modes and tracking. Autocar notes that connected smart functions vary with the display and may require a paid plan; its report does not provide one lineup-wide Wave subscription price.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ather highlights a 7-inch dashboard for the Konarc and separates the S’s DeepView display from the Z’s TFT touch screen. What to verify in the showroom

  • Display type and whether maps or navigation require a subscription.
  • Which riding modes, hill hold and reverse functions are standard.
  • Whether tracking continues after a trial period and what renewal costs.
  • Phone-app compatibility, account transfer and offline operation.
  • Whether software updates are over the air or require a service visit.

Warranty, service and long-term ownership

Ather publishes more detailed ownership terms for the Konarc. The standard battery warranty is three years or 30,000 km, whichever comes first. With AtherStack Pro, Ather says the battery warranty becomes five years or 60,000 km. Its FAQ also lists optional battery coverage of eight years or 80,000 km for ₹4,999, or 10 years or 100,000 km for ₹8,999, subject to the stated AtherStack Pro condition.

Ather specifies routine service once every 12 months or 10,000 km, whichever comes first. Confirm the final written warranty, exclusions, transfer rules and add-on price before purchase. The cited Wave reports do not provide a comparable lineup-wide warranty and service schedule, so request Simple Energy’s current terms for the exact variant rather than assuming they match Ather’s.

Ask both brands about consumables, roadside assistance, accident repairs, battery diagnostics, software support after the warranty period and the cost of a replacement charger. A lower purchase price can be outweighed by insurance, subscription, charging or repair costs over several years.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which scooter suits which rider?

Choose the Simple Wave when performance and storage lead your priorities

  • You want the higher published power and 90 km/h claimed top speed of the compared 3.7 kWh version.
  • You value the Wave’s larger reported storage volume for helmets, rain gear or work equipment.
  • Your preferred trim offers the range and features you need, and the local delivery quote is acceptable.
  • You are comfortable checking which connected functions and display are included rather than assuming they are standard.

Choose the Ather Konarc when ownership clarity and city support matter most

  • The S 161’s lower reported Bengaluru ex-showroom price fits your budget for the exact variant.
  • Ather’s published TrueRange figures, warranty choices and service interval help you plan ownership.
  • You prefer the Konarc’s lower listed seat height, larger front wheel or compact storage layout.
  • Your city has confirmed Konarc availability, service support and a charging routine that works at home or nearby.

Consider neither immediately if the quote is uncertain

Wait for a written local quotation if the dealer cannot confirm the battery, delivery date, warranty, subscription or charger. A scooter that is theoretically ideal but unavailable, difficult to charge or missing the features you expected is the wrong purchase.

A practical pre-purchase checklist

  1. Match the exact battery, display and charger variants in both offers.
  2. Record IDC range separately from Ather TrueRange and avoid comparing unlike labels.
  3. Measure your daily route, including the return journey and regular detours.
  4. Test storage with your helmet, lock, rainwear and charging cable.
  5. Ride with a passenger and check seat, footboard and grab-rail comfort.
  6. Test low-speed balance, braking, turning and suspension on representative roads.
  7. Obtain the full on-road price, including insurance, registration, accessories and software plans.
  8. Read battery warranty limits, service intervals and extended-cover conditions.
  9. Confirm home charging access, public charger locations and charger compatibility.
  10. Keep the signed quotation and promised delivery specification for your records.

Final verdict

For the specific Autocar comparison, the Simple Wave 3.7 kWh is the stronger paper performer and offers more reported storage, while the Ather Konarc S 161 costs less at the quoted Bengaluru ex-showroom price and has clearer published warranty, service and TrueRange information. That does not make either scooter categorically better. Buy the Wave when its performance, storage and selected trim justify its local price; buy the Konarc when its ownership terms, fit, charging plan and verified city support suit your routine. Recheck the final on-road quote and availability immediately before signing.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
