There is no universal winner. The Ather 450X is the quicker, more connected scooter on published figures, while the Yamaha EC-06 pairs a larger 4 kWh battery with a higher 169 km claimed IDC range. Choose the 450X for acceleration, navigation and Ather’s charging ecosystem; choose the EC-06 when maximum claimed range and battery capacity matter more than outright speed. Your final decision should use a current city-level quote, confirmed service coverage and your real commute.
Quick verdict: Ather 450X or Yamaha EC-06?
The Ather 450X and Yamaha EC-06 target similar urban use, but their strengths are different. Ather lists two 450X IDC-range configurations, 126 km and 161 km, with 6.4 kW, 26 Nm, a 90 km/h top speed and 0–40 km/h in 3.3 seconds. Yamaha’s EC-06 is reported with a 4 kWh battery, 6.7 kW peak output, 26 Nm, a 79 km/h top speed and a 169 km claimed IDC range.

Those numbers are not a head-to-head road test. IDC figures are certification claims, and actual distance depends on speed, rider weight, traffic, temperature, tyre pressure, gradients and use of lights or accessories. In an Autocar India Standard-mode test, the EC-06 covered 114 km, illustrating why a claimed 169 km should not be treated as a guaranteed daily result.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Buy the Ather 450X if brisk launch performance, a 7-inch TFT, Google Maps, traction control, Magic Twist and access to Ather’s charging network are priorities.
- Buy the Yamaha EC-06 if its larger battery and higher claimed range reduce charging anxiety, and Yamaha/River service support is convenient in your area.
- Wait for a local quote if price, subsidy, insurance or availability could change the outcome; launch and listing prices are not matched current on-road prices.

Range: the EC-06 leads on paper, but the test result matters
Ather 450X range choices
Ather lists the 450X with 126 km and 161 km IDC range values. The two figures indicate different configurations, so a buyer must identify the battery and variant before comparing either price or range. Ather’s FAQ says the 2.9 kWh 450X cannot later be upgraded to the higher-capacity battery. Selecting the lower-range version because of its initial price therefore commits you to that battery specification.
IDC is a standardized certification cycle. It helps compare products tested under the same procedure, but it is not a promise of the distance you will cover at sustained urban speeds. Frequent acceleration, high-speed riding, a passenger, hills and cold or very hot weather can all reduce practical range.
Yamaha EC-06 range and battery
The EC-06 is reported with a 4 kWh battery and a 169 km claimed IDC range. That is 8 km above the 161 km figure listed for the higher-range 450X configuration and 43 km above the 126 km 450X configuration. The larger battery should be attractive to riders with long commutes or limited charging opportunities, but capacity alone does not establish real-world superiority.
Autocar India recorded 114 km in Standard mode during its EC-06 test. The 114 km result and the 169 km certified claim measure different things: one is an observed test under stated conditions, the other is a certification figure. Neither predicts every rider’s outcome. Treat the test as a useful reality check rather than a universal range guarantee.

How to translate the claims into your commute
- Measure your normal round trip, including detours and errands, rather than using only the distance between home and work.
- Keep a 20–30 percent reserve for traffic, weather and battery ageing instead of planning to arrive at zero.
- For a 40 km daily round trip, either scooter should provide several days between charges in favourable conditions, but the number of days will vary with riding mode and speed.
- For a 100 km day, the 114 km observed EC-06 result leaves little margin, while either 450X configuration also requires careful speed management or an opportunity charge.
- Ask the dealer to demonstrate the exact battery percentage, charger and software settings on the variant you are buying.
Performance: the 450X has the clearer advantage
Ather publishes 0–40 km/h in 3.3 seconds and a 90 km/h top speed for the 450X. Those figures suggest stronger starts at traffic lights and more headroom on faster urban roads than the EC-06’s reported 79 km/h top speed. Ather’s 6.4 kW output and Yamaha’s reported 6.7 kW peak output cannot be compared by power alone; gearing, motor calibration, vehicle mass and battery state affect acceleration.
No published instrumented back-to-back test is cited for these models. The 450X’s acceleration figure is a listed manufacturer result, while the EC-06’s top speed is a claimed launch specification. Use the published numbers to understand positioning, not as proof that one scooter will always be faster in every situation.
When the difference will be noticeable
- Short traffic-light sprints and joining moving traffic favour the 450X’s published 0–40 km/h figure.
- Riders who stay below 60 km/h may feel little benefit from a 90 km/h limit, making range and comfort more important.
- On roads where the legal or practical speed is around 70–80 km/h, the EC-06’s 79 km/h claim may be adequate but leaves less overtaking margin.
- A passenger, an incline or a low state of charge can narrow the perceived gap; arrange a test ride with the load you normally carry.
Features and everyday usability
Ather 450X equipment
Ather promotes a 7-inch TFT display, integrated Google Maps, traction control and Magic Twist, alongside other connected and rider-focused functions. These features make the 450X more than a basic commuter: navigation is integrated into the instrument cluster, and the scooter offers additional control and information functions through its software ecosystem.

Yamaha EC-06 equipment
Launch coverage describes a colour LCD, reverse assist and three riding modes. Reverse assist can help when backing out of a tight parking space, while selectable modes let the rider trade response for efficiency. The reported equipment list is shorter than Ather’s advertised connected suite, but a simpler interface may suit buyers who want essential information without extensive app features.
Yamaha’s November 12, 2025 release states: “The EC-06 electric scooter is based on a production model from River and was developed to appeal to a broader range of customers.” Yamaha also said the scooter was developed in collaboration with River Mobility and would be produced by River. That explains the platform background; it does not by itself establish identical equipment, tuning or service arrangements between the EC-06 and any other model.
Charging and battery ownership
Ather charging options
Ather says its 700W charger can be purchased for its scooter range. This is useful if you need a second charger at work or want a replacement, but check compatibility with the exact 450X battery before ordering. Ather’s FAQ states that the 2.9 kWh 450X charges at 1.5 km per minute on an Ather Grid from 0–50 percent state of charge. That rate is a network-specific claim over a partial charging window, not a universal home-charging time.

EC-06 charging claim
Autocar’s launch report gives the EC-06 an 8-hour 0–80 percent charging claim. That points to overnight home charging rather than rapid top-ups during a short stop. Confirm whether the quoted scooter includes the required portable charger, the household electrical requirements and any installation support.
Questions to ask before signing
- What battery capacity and range configuration is named on the invoice?
- Is the charger included, and what is its rated output?
- What charging cable, socket or adapter is required?
- Are public charging fees separate from the scooter price?
- Does the warranty require authorised charging equipment or scheduled servicing?
- What happens if the scooter is stored for several weeks?
Warranty: similar standard cover, different upgrade paths
Ather lists a standard battery warranty of 3 years or 30,000 km. It describes optional routes to 5 years/60,000 km with AtherStack Pro and 8 years/80,000 km with an add-on. Ather’s published information does not state the current prices or all conditions for those options, so request the written terms before treating an upgrade as part of the purchase.
Launch coverage gives the EC-06 a 3-year/30,000-km battery warranty. Confirm whether that applies to the complete battery pack, what capacity-retention threshold is used, and which parts are covered separately. Warranty duration is only one ownership factor; dealer distance, appointment availability and parts support can matter more than an extra year on paper.

| Price reference | What it represents | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| ₹1,48,998 | Ather 450X starting price shown on the current product page | Use as a starting reference; confirm battery variant, state taxes, insurance and registration |
| ₹1.51 lakh | Selected 450X configuration on a dated comparison listing | Do not assume it is today’s price or the same configuration as the starting model |
| ₹1.68 lakh | EC-06 launch price, ex-showroom Maharashtra, February 2026 | Historical launch reference, not a guaranteed current quote elsewhere |
| ₹1.71 lakh | EC-06 figure on a later comparison listing | Check date, state, selected trim and included equipment |
Your on-road total can include registration, insurance, accessories, financing charges, state incentives and dealer fees. The EC-06 was initially reported as available only in select states; do not assume that launch footprint is still its complete current availability. Obtain written quotations from authorised outlets in your city for the same battery and equipment level.
Service, support and platform considerations
Ather’s established charging and software ecosystem may be valuable if you live near its service centre and public chargers. The EC-06’s River production connection provides useful context, but the practical question is whether Yamaha-authorised support, parts and trained technicians are accessible where you live.
Before paying a booking amount, map the nearest service location, ask for routine service intervals and obtain an estimated turnaround for a warranty repair. Check whether roadside assistance, mobile diagnostics and software updates are included. A scooter with greater theoretical range is less useful if a support visit requires transporting it a long distance.
Which scooter suits which buyer?
Choose the Ather 450X when
- Your commute benefits from rapid 0–40 km/h acceleration and a 90 km/h top speed.
- You want built-in navigation, a larger TFT interface, traction control and Magic Twist.
- Ather Grid locations are convenient and you value the option of rapid public charging for the 2.9 kWh version.
- The lower starting price remains lower after your local registration, insurance and chosen battery configuration are added.
- You are willing to pay for an optional extended battery warranty after comparing its written conditions.
Choose the Yamaha EC-06 when
- Your priority is the largest stated battery and the highest claimed IDC range in this comparison.
- Your daily route is long, charging access is limited and overnight charging fits your routine.
- A 79 km/h top speed is sufficient for your roads and you prefer a straightforward colour LCD, reverse assist and riding modes.
- Yamaha-authorised sales and service are closer or more convenient than the alternatives.
- The current local quote, subsidy and warranty terms make its higher launch positioning acceptable.
Consider neither until you verify
- The exact variant and battery named in the quote.
- Real charging times at your home electrical connection.
- Service coverage and parts availability in your city.
- Insurance, registration and any state incentive that changes the final price.
- Seat comfort, riding position, storage and passenger comfort during a proper test ride.
A practical buying process
- Write down your route. Record weekday distance, weekend use, hills, average speed and whether you carry a passenger.
- Set a reserve target. Use a conservative buffer rather than the full IDC number; the EC-06’s 114 km Standard-mode test shows how large the gap can be between certification and observed use.
- Test the exact variants. Do not test one battery version and order another because the nameplate is the same.
- Check charging at home. Confirm socket location, cable length, building permission and overnight electricity access.
- Audit public charging. Identify reliable points on your commute and verify access, payment and operating status.
- Compare written quotes. Ask both sellers for ex-showroom, registration, insurance, accessories, charger, warranty and on-road totals in separate lines.
- Read warranty exclusions. Pay attention to mileage limits, capacity thresholds, charging requirements and software or subscription dependencies.
- Confirm support. Get the service address, emergency contact, estimated repair process and delivery timeline in writing.
- Recalculate total ownership cost. Include optional warranty, charging equipment, insurance renewals and likely accessories rather than comparing only headline prices.
Bottom line
The Ather 450X is the more compelling performance-and-technology choice: its published 3.3-second 0–40 km/h time, 90 km/h top speed, TFT navigation and connected functions give it a clear character. The Yamaha EC-06 makes the stronger range-and-battery case with a 4 kWh pack and 169 km claimed IDC figure, although the 114 km Standard-mode test demonstrates why those claims need practical context.
Choose the 450X if your daily life rewards acceleration, software features and convenient Ather charging. Choose the EC-06 if the larger battery, overnight charging routine and higher claimed range better match your travel pattern and local support is dependable. A current city quotation and a test ride on the exact variant should decide the purchase.
