Ather also announced a ₹1,45,999 ex-showroom Bengaluru launch price for the 3.7 kWh 450S in 2025. That earlier, city-specific figure is not interchangeable with the current starting price: electric-scooter prices change by city, variant, promotion and date. Treat every online number as a starting point for a written dealer quote.

The River’s 163 km claim is only two kilometres above Ather’s 161 km IDC figure on paper, while the lower Ather configuration is listed at 122 km IDC. That spread is why you should identify the exact 450S version before comparing range. Neither number tells you how far the scooter will travel at your speed, with your payload, on your hills and in your weather.
Translate the claim into your own route
Map your normal weekday distance, then include the return leg, detours, a reserve for traffic and a margin for battery ageing. A rider covering 35 km per day has very different needs from one travelling 70 km without a reliable charging point. Frequent high-speed riding, steep gradients, heavy loads, low temperatures, tyre-pressure problems and repeated stop-start traffic can all reduce usable distance compared with a laboratory cycle.

Do not plan to arrive at zero percent. Keep a reserve that allows you to reach a known charging location if a meeting runs late or a diversion appears. During a test ride, note the battery percentage before and after a familiar route rather than treating the dashboard’s instantaneous range estimate as a guarantee.

River’s listed eight-hour time is considerably longer than Ather’s published 0–80-percent options. If you can plug in overnight and rarely exceed your daily route, that may not matter. Ather publishes the fuller power specification, including 5.4 kW peak output. Because a comparable River peak-power figure is not established here, do not infer that one motor is objectively stronger from torque alone.
