What is the price difference between the Ather 450S and 450X?
Ather’s current comparison page displays a starting price of ₹135,999 for the 450S and ₹148,998 for the 450X. That is a displayed starting-price gap of ₹12,999, not a guaranteed on-road difference. Registration, insurance, taxes, accessories, city incentives, delivery charges, variant selection, and temporary offers can change the amount you actually pay.

Ather’s own July 2025 exchange-filed announcement illustrates why a city-specific quote matters. It listed ex-showroom launch prices for the 450S 3.7 kWh version of ₹148,047 in Delhi, ₹148,258 in Mumbai, ₹145,999 in Bengaluru, and ₹147,312 in Chennai. Those figures are tied to a particular variant, date, and city; they should not be substituted for a current quote.

Before comparing finance payments or total ownership cost, ask the retailer to itemize the exact battery, charger, warranty package, registration, insurance, accessories, and any city incentive. A cheaper-looking 450S configuration can be a poor comparison if the 450X quote includes a larger battery or additional software package.

Battery options and IDC range: compare like with like
Ather’s comparison page lists two IDC range figures for each model: 122 km and 161 km for the 450S, and 126 km and 161 km for the 450X. IDC means Indian Driving Cycle. It is a standardized laboratory-style figure, not a promise that every rider will travel that distance in traffic. Speed, load, hills, temperature, tyre pressure, riding mode, and use of lights or accessories all affect practical range.

The small difference between 122 and 126 km is less important than selecting the correct battery tier. At the higher listed range, both scooters are rated at 161 km IDC, so the 450X does not automatically provide more range simply because it is the more expensive model.
There is a material inconsistency in Ather’s published battery descriptions. The detailed specification table lists installed capacity as 2.9 kWh and 3.5 kWh for both scooters. Ather’s July 2025 release describes the higher-range 450S as having a 3.7 kWh battery and a 161 km IDC range. The available official pages do not explain whether 3.5 kWh is a later configuration, a usable-versus-installed-capacity distinction, or a specification error.
Use the current configurator and your written order document as the deciding evidence. Make sure the document states the battery’s nominal or installed capacity, the corresponding IDC range, and whether the quoted price includes the charger and desired software plan.
Performance: the 450X is quicker, not faster at the top
On Ather’s detailed specification table, the 450X has the stronger published performance figures in every acceleration-related measure:

The extra power and torque should matter most when joining faster traffic, climbing with a passenger, or making repeated urban overtakes. The published 0–40 km/h figures describe acceleration capability; they do not tell you how either scooter feels on a particular road or how performance changes as the battery state of charge falls. No independent comparative road test was established for these models, so the table should be read as manufacturer specifications rather than an observed ride result.
Because both are listed at 90 km/h, the 450X premium is not buying a higher stated maximum speed. It is buying stronger response within the speed range most commonly used in city riding.
Which features does the 450X add?
Ather’s current comparison page marks several connected or rider-control functions as available on the 450X but not the 450S:
- Google Maps navigation
- Magic Twist regenerative deceleration control
- Multi-Mode Traction Control
- Infinite Cruise
The 450X is also described with a 7-inch TFT dashboard. These are meaningful differences if you regularly navigate unfamiliar areas, want one-hand regenerative braking control, ride on surfaces where traction varies, or value a more feature-rich display.
Software availability needs careful checking. Ather’s company material indicates that some software and safety functions can depend on AtherStack Pro. Do not assume that every item shown in a comparison graphic is permanently included with every 450X transaction, or that an app-connected function works without the applicable subscription, connectivity, or hardware. Ask for a build-specific equipment list and the name, duration, and price of any required software package.

What the 450S is designed to prioritize
Ather has positioned the 450S for riders who want the sporty design and longer-range capability of the 450 series without the 450X’s advanced software features. In practical terms, it is the simpler purchase when your priorities are commuting, basic instrumentation, and keeping the initial price down.
When the 450X’s equipment is worth paying for
The 450X makes more sense when navigation on the scooter display is a daily requirement, when you specifically want Magic Twist or selectable traction-control behavior, or when quicker acceleration will reduce stress in your normal traffic. If you will not use those functions, the premium may deliver little benefit beyond the stronger motor output.
Charging times are configuration-dependent—and Ather’s pages conflict
Ather’s detailed specifications table publishes different home-charging times by model and configuration:

Other official Ather material gives different 450S figures. The 450-series FAQ states 6 hr 36 min to 80% and 8 hr 36 min to 100%. A July 2025 release for the 450S 3.7 kWh version says 4 hr 30 min to 80%. These are not interchangeable numbers: battery size, charger output, software limits, and the exact scooter version can all change the result.
The safest buying procedure is to have the dealer write down the supplied charger’s power rating and the expected 0–80% and 0–100% times for your exact battery. Ather’s FAQ says its 700 W charger is compatible with new Ather scooters, and that the 450S can use Ather Grid. Confirm whether the charger in your quote is the 700 W unit or another configuration, and whether public charging is priced separately.

Home-charging checklist
- Identify the exact battery capacity and variant code on the quotation.
- Confirm the charger model, rated output, cable length, and included installation equipment.
- Ask for charging time from the scooter’s normal low state of charge, not only an idealized empty-battery figure.
- Check whether the quoted time refers to 80% or 100%; the final portion can take disproportionately longer.
- Verify socket, earthing, weather protection, and apartment-parking permissions before delivery.
Warranty: compare the written terms, not the headline
Ather’s current specification page lists a standard vehicle and battery warranty of 3 years or 30,000 km, whichever comes first. The same page lists an AtherStack Pro battery warranty of 5 years or 60,000 km and advertises an extended battery-warranty add-on of up to 10 years or 100,000 km.
The 450-series FAQ gives a different Eight70 example: 8 years or 80,000 km with AtherStack Pro, plus an add-on price shown there as ₹4,999. Because the official pages do not present identical terms, do not treat one figure as universal. Eligibility, battery-health thresholds, exclusions, transferability, and add-on pricing can change by model, purchase date, market, and software plan.

Before paying, request the warranty booklet or digital terms that identify the scooter variant, battery, mileage limit, software requirement, service obligations, minimum battery-health condition, and what happens if ownership changes. Keep the final invoice and plan activation confirmation.

- You want the lower displayed starting price and are comfortable obtaining a city-specific quote.
- Your daily riding is mostly predictable commuting rather than frequent navigation in unfamiliar areas.
- You care more about the selected battery tier than about premium software controls.
- The published 5.4 kW, 22 Nm, and 3.9-second 0–40 km/h figures meet your traffic needs.
- You are willing to verify charging and warranty details because the official pages show multiple figures.
Choose the 450X when these statements describe you
- You regularly need built-in Google Maps navigation.
- You value the 6.4 kW motor, 26 Nm torque, and quicker listed 0–40 km/h time.
- Magic Twist, multi-mode traction control, Infinite Cruise, or the 7-inch TFT are features you will use often.
- You want the 450X’s higher performance without accepting a higher stated top speed as the justification.
- The dealer’s written quote shows that the selected 450X battery and software package match your requirements.
When neither headline price is enough
If you ride long distances, live in a building with restricted electrical access, or carry a passenger frequently, decide the battery and charging configuration first. A lower-priced scooter with an unsuitable range tier or slow charging arrangement can cost more in inconvenience than the initial saving. Conversely, paying for 450X features that remain unused is not good value.

What to check during a showroom or online order
- Match the battery tier. Compare 450S and 450X with the same stated IDC range, rather than comparing an entry battery on one scooter with a higher-range battery on the other.
- Get the local price in writing. Request ex-showroom, registration, insurance, delivery, accessories, taxes, incentives, and financing charges as separate lines.
- Confirm hardware. Record battery capacity, charger rating, dashboard size, and the exact variant name.
- Confirm software. List which navigation, Magic Twist, traction-control, cruise, safety, and app features are included, which require AtherStack Pro, and how long access lasts.
- Check charging access. Measure your parking location, verify an earthed supply, and ask about installation responsibility and public-charger billing.
- Read the warranty contract. Check time, kilometres, battery-health requirements, exclusions, service conditions, and add-on price.
- Ask about delivery configuration. Ensure the scooter delivered matches the battery, colour, charger, dashboard, and software package on the invoice.
Public charging network context
Ather reported 3,611 fast and neighbourhood chargers globally as of March 31, 2025, including 3,578 in India and 33 in Nepal and Sri Lanka. This is a dated company-reported count, not a live network total. Check the current app map for chargers on your regular routes and confirm connector availability, operating hours, and any fees.

Bottom line: which Ather should you buy?
Buy the 450S if your priority is the lower displayed entry price and the core 450-series experience, provided its selected battery tier and charging speed fit your routine. Buy the 450X if you will exploit its quicker acceleration and connected controls; its published performance advantage is clear, but its listed top speed is the same 90 km/h.
Do not finalize either scooter from a generic comparison page alone. Ather’s current materials disagree on the higher-pack capacity, 450S charging times, and extended warranty language. Have the retailer confirm the exact battery, charger, software features, warranty terms, and current on-road price in writing. That document—not the headline number—is the fair basis for deciding whether the 450X premium is justified.
