Short answer: the Ather 450S is the stronger choice for riders who prioritise acceleration, higher cruising capability and performance. The Numeros Diplos Max+ is more compelling when its 156 km claimed IDC range, 4.0 kWh battery and lower listed Bengaluru ex-showroom price matter more than outright speed. Those are manufacturer figures, not independent head-to-head test results, and the right choice depends on your exact Diplos variant, commute, charging access and local on-road quote.
What this comparison is actually comparing
“Diplos” is a family name, not one specification. Numeros lists the Max+, Max, Pro and Go. This comparison uses the Diplos Max+ because its current product page and brochure provide the clearest, current specification set. A different Diplos variant can have a different battery, range, motor output, price and equipment, so do not use this verdict for an unspecified Diplos model.

The Max+ figures for capacity, range, speed and peak power come from Numeros’s 2025 brochure and current product page. The brochure states that its test basis is Numeros Motors’ own standard, so treat the values as manufacturer specifications.

Performance: where the Ather has the clearest advantage
Acceleration and overtaking
The 450S is the performance-oriented scooter on the published data. Its higher peak output, stated 0–40 km/h time and higher top-speed limit give it more reserve for joining faster traffic, overtaking and carrying a passenger on inclines. That does not make it automatically safer: braking distance, tyres, road quality, rider skill and traffic remain more important than a specification-sheet advantage.
The Diplos Max+ is aimed at a less aggressive pace. A 70 km/h ceiling is adequate for urban commuting where most trips are on slower city roads, but it leaves less margin for sustained high-speed use. Because Numeros does not publish a comparable 0–40 km/h result in the cited Max+ material, there is no defensible acceleration winner based on a timed test.
Hill routes and load
Ather lists gradeability for the 450S; the retrieved Max+ sources do not state an equivalent figure. Neither number predicts every hill. A steep start with two adults, a low state of charge, heat or rough asphalt can reduce actual climb performance. If your route includes a flyover or a long gradient, take both scooters on that route with the intended load rather than relying only on the brochure.

What Ather claims about the 450 series
In its 31 July 2025 release, Ather Chief Business Officer Ravneet Phokela said: “The 450 series has always set the bar for performance, technology, and reliability in the Indian electric two-wheeler market.” That is Ather’s promotional positioning, not an independent reliability finding. The release is available as a company PDF.
Range, battery and charging: read the numbers correctly
IDC range is a comparison point, not a trip promise
IDC figures are produced under a standardised test method and are useful for comparing claims from the same market, but your result will vary with speed, rider and passenger weight, tyre pressure, traffic, temperature, hills, wind and use of lights or other electrical loads. A rider travelling quickly on an open arterial will not normally reproduce the published number. No independent, controlled Ather-versus-Numeros range test is identified in the cited material.
Use your own daily distance to size the battery. Add a reserve for weather, detours and days when charging is unavailable. A scooter that technically covers your commute but arrives nearly empty every evening leaves little margin for an unexpected trip. Include the return journey, school or shopping stops and any regular passenger in your calculation rather than comparing only the one-way distance.

The Ather capacity discrepancy is a date-and-source issue
Ather’s current specification table lists 2.9 kWh and 3.5 kWh choices, while Ather’s 31 July 2025 launch release described a 3.7 kWh 450S configuration with a 161 km IDC range. The same release gave a ₹145,999 ex-showroom Bengaluru launch price for that 3.7 kWh model. A launch configuration and price are not the same as a current quote, so ask the dealer to identify the battery size, range configuration and model year on the order form.
Do not assume that a 161 km listing means every 450S has that battery. Ask for the battery capacity printed on the quotation, the corresponding IDC claim and the exact charging hardware. If two Ather quotes show different capacities, compare them as separate trims instead of treating the lower-priced scooter as a discount on the larger-battery model.
Charging at home
Numeros states a 3–4 hour charge time for the Max+. Ather’s public pages show different timings by configuration and page, so there is no single reliable 450S charging number to apply to every vehicle. Confirm the supplied charger, socket requirements, start and end state used for the quoted time, and whether a portable or fixed charging arrangement is included.
Before booking either scooter, check that your parking space has a safe, weather-protected electrical outlet and that your building permits charging. If you cannot charge where you park, the practical value of a larger battery or a longer IDC claim may be lower than expected. Ask whether the outlet can remain available overnight, who pays for any electrical work, and what happens if your apartment association restricts dedicated charging points.
Price: why the headline amounts are not an on-road comparison
Ather’s current page shows ₹135,999 as a starting price. Numeros lists ₹114,999 ex-showroom Bengaluru for the Diplos Max+. The first is a starting figure and the second is explicitly tied to Bengaluru and an ex-showroom basis. Registration, insurance, taxes, accessories, delivery charges, offers, financing and the selected battery or trim can change the amount you actually pay.
Request written, date-stamped quotes for the same city. Ask each dealer to separate ex-showroom price, registration, insurance, handling or logistics charges, accessories, discounts, finance costs and any extended warranty. Comparing one brand’s ex-showroom number with another brand’s on-road quote can make a cheaper scooter appear more expensive or vice versa.

The ₹145,999 Ather figure from the July 2025 release was a launch price for the then-described 3.7 kWh 450S in Bengaluru. It should not be substituted for the current ₹135,999 starting figure or treated as evidence of today’s transaction price.
Also check what happens after the first year: insurance renewal, scheduled service, consumables, charging electricity and any optional connected or battery plan can affect ownership cost. The available figures do not establish a complete five-year cost for either scooter, so ask the dealer for a written schedule rather than relying on a headline saving.
Warranty and service support
Ather coverage
Ather lists standard coverage of three years or 30,000 km, whichever comes first, for the vehicle and battery; the specification page also lists a three-year charger warranty. Ather’s 450 Series FAQ describes optional combinations involving AtherStack Pro and Eight70 that can extend battery coverage up to eight years or 80,000 km under stated limits. Confirm eligibility, exclusions, activation deadlines and the exact configuration covered before treating an optional plan as part of the scooter’s base warranty.

Numeros coverage
Numeros’s warranty document states three years or 50,000 km, whichever comes first, for the Diplos. It specifically lists the battery/BMS and motor/controller within that period, subject to the document’s conditions. Warranty service requires delivery and servicing through an authorised Numeros dealer or Numeros itself, and exclusions apply. Read the delivered warranty booklet rather than comparing only the larger kilometre figure.
Ask whether missed services, non-authorised repairs, water exposure, accident damage or modifications affect eligibility. Keep invoices and service records, and find out how a diagnostic fault is logged if the scooter cannot be ridden to the workshop. A longer kilometre limit is useful only if the covered component and service conditions match how you will use the scooter.
Dealer access matters more than a brochure promise
The cited pages do not establish an apples-to-apples service-network comparison for every Indian city. Check the nearest authorised workshop, expected parts availability, pickup or roadside-assistance arrangements and the process for a battery or controller fault. Numeros provides a dealer locator; use it to verify that support exists near your home and workplace. Ather buyers should likewise ask the local outlet to identify the service location that will handle the exact 450S configuration.

Everyday usability and safety checks
Performance and range do not cover seat comfort, low-speed balance, braking feel, suspension over potholes or ease of parking. Spend enough time on a test ride to include a tight turn, a speed breaker, stop-and-go traffic and a firm emergency-braking practice in a safe area. Repeat the ride with the intended passenger if the dealer permits it. Check that both riders can place their feet securely and that mirrors remain useful with a passenger.

Choose the Ather 450S when performance is the priority
- Your route includes faster urban roads and you want the higher published speed ceiling.
- Quick launches, overtaking reserve and carrying a passenger on gradients matter more than the lowest purchase price.
- You are comfortable verifying which battery and range configuration is being quoted.
- The local Ather service point, charging arrangement and on-road price fit your budget.
Choose the Diplos Max+ when range claim and Bengaluru price matter most
- You value the higher stated IDC range and 4.0 kWh battery for fewer charging sessions.
- A 70 km/h maximum is sufficient for your normal roads.
- The current Bengaluru ex-showroom listing produces a meaningful saving after you obtain a real on-road quote.
- An authorised Numeros dealer and parts support are realistically accessible.
When neither is an obvious winner
If your commute is short and slow, the Ather’s performance advantage may not repay its higher quote. If you regularly ride on open highways, the Max+ speed ceiling may be restrictive even if its claimed range looks attractive. If you lack home charging, inspect the actual charging options before deciding on battery capacity. A test ride with your normal riding posture and, where permitted, a passenger is more useful than choosing from range figures alone.

- Measure your use: record daily kilometres, average and maximum speed, passenger frequency, hills and the longest likely detour.

- Keep a reserve: choose a battery and charging routine that leave practical range for weather, traffic and unplanned trips rather than targeting the IDC number exactly.
Final buying verdict
On the published specifications, the Ather 450S is better for performance: it has the higher stated output, faster published acceleration and greater top-speed capability. The Numeros Diplos Max+ is better for a buyer who prioritises its longer claimed IDC range and lower listed Bengaluru ex-showroom price, provided its speed limit and local support are adequate.
There is no universal winner without your city, commute and a confirmed variant. Obtain matching on-road quotes, verify charging and service access, and test ride both before turning the specification-sheet advantage into a purchase decision.

Which scooter has the longer range?
Numeros lists 156 km IDC for the Diplos Max+. Ather lists 122 km or 161 km IDC depending on the 450S configuration. IDC is a manufacturer test claim, not a guaranteed real-world distance; speed, load, hills, weather and tyre pressure all matter.
