Ather 450 Apex vs Yamaha Aerox E: Which Electric Scooter Fits Your Ride?

The Ather 450 Apex claims stronger acceleration and top speed, while the Yamaha Aerox E offers higher stated power, two batteries and a sport-scooter format. Here is how their published figures, charging claims and buying paths differ.

Short answer: The Ather 450 Apex is the stronger pick if you prioritise the manufacturer-published 0–40 km/h time, a 100 km/h Warp+ top-speed claim and the higher current IDC range figure. The Yamaha Aerox E counters with higher stated peak power and torque, a two-pack battery layout and a sport-scooter format. Neither result is a proven real-world win: the brands use different test and charging descriptions, and Ather’s own pages show two sets of range and battery figures. Your route, charging access, local dealer support and test-ride fit should decide the purchase.

What is being compared

This is a comparison of the electric Yamaha Aerox E, announced for India on 12 November 2025, not the petrol Aerox 155. Yamaha’s launch announcement is available on its official corporate site. The other scooter is Ather Energy’s 450 Apex, the performance-focused model in the 450 range.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Both are India-market electric scooters, but they take different approaches. Ather presents the Apex as a single, performance-oriented scooter with a large touchscreen interface. Yamaha uses two removable 1.5 kWh battery packs in the Aerox E and gives it the visual proportions of a maxi-style sport scooter. The figures below are manufacturer specifications, not independent side-by-side test results.

Quick verdict: which one is better for you?

  • Choose the Ather 450 Apex if the published 0–40 km/h figure, the 100 km/h Warp+ claim, the current 165 km IDC listing, Google Maps on a 7-inch TFT and access to a nearby Ather Experience Centre matter most.
  • Choose the Yamaha Aerox E if you prefer a two-battery system, Yamaha’s sport-scooter styling, the stated 9.4 kW peak power and 48 Nm torque, or a booking route that lets you select a location and dealer online.
  • Do not choose from range numbers alone. Ather currently lists 165 km IDC and 3.5 kWh, while its April 2025 specification sheet and FAQ state 157 km certified range and 3.7 kWh. Yamaha lists 117 km IDC from two 1.5 kWh packs. IDC and certified figures are test-cycle results, not a promise of the distance you will get in traffic.
  • Do not compare charging times without the endpoint. Ather quotes 0–80% at home; Yamaha quotes 0–100%, with separate times for one and two battery packs.

Published performance: acceleration, power and top speed

Measure Ather 450 Apex Yamaha Aerox E How to read it
Peak power 7.0 kW 9.4 kW Yamaha publishes the higher peak-power number; peak power alone does not establish which scooter feels quicker in every situation.
Maximum torque 26 Nm 48 Nm Yamaha publishes the higher torque number. These are manufacturer figures, not wheel-torque measurements.
Top speed 100 km/h, in Warp+ mode only 95.5 km/h Ather’s 100 km/h figure has a mode condition; Yamaha’s page lists 95.5 km/h.
0–40 km/h 2.9 seconds Not listed on the cited official page There is no equivalent Yamaha acceleration claim to compare.

Ather’s current 450 specifications page lists 7.0 kW, 26 Nm, 100 km/h and 2.9 seconds from 0–40 km/h. Ather’s FAQ adds an important qualification: “Yes, you’ll reach the top speed of 100 km/h in Warp+ mode only.” That answer appears on the official 450 Apex FAQ. Yamaha’s Aerox E page lists 9.4 kW, 48 Nm and 95.5 km/h, but does not publish a 0–40 km/h time.

On the published outcomes, the Apex has the higher top-speed claim and the only stated sprint time, so it is the more clearly documented performance choice. The Aerox E’s higher power and torque numbers could affect how it responds under load, but the available specifications do not provide a matching acceleration test, motor map, kerb weight or independent result. A test ride is therefore essential if rapid launches or two-up riding are important.

Range and battery capacity: why the numbers need context

Item Ather 450 Apex Yamaha Aerox E
Current published range 165 km IDC on Ather’s current specification page 117 km IDC
Other dated Ather figure 157 km certified range in the April 2025 specification sheet and the FAQ Not stated on the cited page
Battery capacity 3.5 kWh on the current page; 3.7 kWh in Ather’s April 2025 sheet Two packs, 1.5 kWh each (3.0 kWh combined when both are installed)
What the label means IDC or certified test-cycle values, depending on the source IDC test-cycle value

The current Apex specification page lists 165 km IDC and 3.5 kWh. Ather’s April 2025 PDF specification sheet, linked as 450 Apex Specification Sheet, states 157 km certified range and 3.7 kWh. Ather’s FAQ repeats the 157 km certified figure. These are different source dates and labels; there is not enough published information to explain the change, so both values should remain attached to their source and date rather than being averaged or presented as one definitive specification.

Yamaha lists 117 km IDC for the Aerox E and identifies two 1.5 kWh batteries. With both packs fitted, the nominal combined capacity is 3.0 kWh, but nominal capacity is not a direct prediction of range. Speed, rider weight, gradients, temperature, tyre pressure, traffic and riding mode all change consumption. The cited manufacturer pages do not provide a matched real-world route test, so neither scooter has an evidence-based “real range” figure here.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a daily decision, map your normal round trip and add a reserve for detours and weather. Then confirm whether the displayed range estimate can be reset or viewed by riding mode, and whether your building allows charging where the scooter is parked. Those practical checks matter more than a difference between two test-cycle labels.

Charging: compare the endpoint and battery configuration

Scooter Manufacturer charging claim What it does not tell you
Ather 450 Apex 0–80% home charging in 3 hours 12 minutes It is not a 0–100% time, and the cited specification does not establish the final 20% duration.
Yamaha Aerox E 0–100% in 3 hours 10 minutes with one pack; 6 hours 20 minutes with two packs The two-pack time is the relevant figure when both batteries are being charged; it should not be compared directly with Ather’s 0–80% claim.

These claims come from the official Ather specifications and Yamaha Aerox E specifications. Yamaha’s two times reflect the battery configuration: one pack reaches full charge in 3 hours 10 minutes, while two take 6 hours 20 minutes. Ather’s 3 hours 12 minutes ends at 80% and is described as home charging. Because the end points differ, it is not valid to declare one scooter universally faster to charge.

Ask the dealer how the Aerox E packs are removed, carried and charged, and whether both can be charged in your intended parking area. For the Apex, verify the supplied home-charging equipment, the required electrical outlet and the installation conditions at your address. The official pages supplied for this comparison do not specify every installation requirement, so obtain the current written details before paying a booking amount.

Ather describes the Apex and the wider 450 lineup on its 450 lineup page, including the 7-inch TFT touchscreen and Google Maps navigation. Yamaha lists a colour TFT console, turn-by-turn navigation and a smart key on its Aerox E model page. Those descriptions do not establish that the systems have identical map data, phone requirements, update policies or screen brightness. During a demonstration, check pairing, route recalculation, glove usability, sunlight legibility and whether navigation remains available when mobile coverage is weak.

Availability, booking and subsidy considerations

Ather 450 Apex purchase path

Ather says the Apex is available only at select Experience Centres and asks interested riders to contact the company about test rides. The availability and test-ride statement appears in the Apex FAQ. “Select” means availability cannot be assumed from the presence of another Ather model in your city. Call the named centre, confirm that an Apex demonstrator is physically present and ask for the expected delivery window before making travel plans.

Yamaha Aerox E purchase path

Yamaha’s Aerox E page provides online booking with location and dealer selection. Use the official booking route, then confirm that the selected dealer can arrange a test ride and explain the two-pack charging process. An online booking form does not by itself establish stock, delivery timing or the final on-road price in every city.

PM E-DRIVE eligibility

Ather states that the Apex is not eligible for the PM E-DRIVE subsidy because its ex-factory price does not qualify under the guidelines Ather cites. Treat that as a product-specific statement tied to the applicable rules and date, not as a conclusion about the Aerox E or about future policy. Check the current government scheme terms and the dealer’s written price quotation before calculating any subsidy or financing benefit.

How to decide between the two scooters

Pick the Apex when performance documentation matters most

  • You want a published 2.9-second 0–40 km/h figure and a 100 km/h claim, with the understanding that 100 km/h requires Warp+ mode.
  • The current 165 km IDC listing is useful for your planned use, while you are comfortable verifying the conflicting 157 km/3.7 kWh dated specification before purchase.
  • You value a 7-inch touchscreen and Google Maps navigation as described by Ather.
  • A select Ather Experience Centre is close enough for a test ride, handover and service visits.

Pick the Aerox E when battery flexibility and Yamaha’s format fit better

  • You prefer two 1.5 kWh packs that can be handled separately, and your charging routine works with the 6 hours 20 minutes full-charge claim when both packs are used.
  • The sport-scooter riding position, bodywork and Yamaha dealer route suit you better than the Apex’s setup.
  • The stated 9.4 kW and 48 Nm appeal to you, but you are willing to judge acceleration on a ride because Yamaha does not publish a 0–40 km/h time on the cited page.
  • The 117 km IDC figure covers your normal use with a sensible reserve, or you can recharge reliably during the day.

Use your route, not the brochure, as the tie-breaker

  1. Write down your longest normal day, including a return trip and likely detours.
  2. Mark where the scooter will be parked overnight and whether a safe electrical outlet is available there.
  3. Ask each dealer to demonstrate the exact charging hardware, battery handling and dashboard range display.
  4. Ride both scooters on the same stretch, including a start from rest, a hill, a rough surface, a tight turn and a section at your normal cruising speed.
  5. Record the quoted on-road price, insurance, registration, delivery date, warranty terms and service location for your city. The cited manufacturer pages do not provide a consistent, dated city-level price comparison.

What the published figures cannot answer

  • Actual range: IDC and certified values are laboratory or regulated test-cycle results. No matched independent route test is supplied here.
  • Ride comfort and handling: Neither cited specification page establishes suspension tuning, seat comfort, braking feel, kerb weight or two-up stability.
  • Long-term reliability: The specifications do not provide failure rates, battery degradation data or resale evidence.
  • True acceleration advantage: Ather provides 0–40 km/h in 2.9 seconds; Yamaha provides higher peak power and torque but no comparable sprint time. Motor output numbers alone cannot settle the on-road result.
  • Ownership cost: Electricity tariffs, insurance, service prices and financing vary by city and date. Obtain a written quote rather than applying a generic national estimate.

These gaps are reasons to test ride and verify local support, not reasons to convert an unlisted value into a guess. Keep the exact model year, battery configuration and software version on your quotation so that a later specification change is visible.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Is the exact Apex or Aerox E variant available for a physical test ride in my city?
  • What is the current on-road price, and which charges are recurring versus one-time?
  • For the Apex, which range and battery-capacity figures apply to the scooter being sold: the current page’s 165 km/3.5 kWh or the dated 157 km/3.7 kWh specification?
  • For the Aerox E, can both battery packs be removed and charged independently, and what equipment is supplied?
  • Where is the nearest authorised service centre, and what is the expected wait for routine and warranty work?
  • What written warranty applies to the vehicle, battery packs, charger and software?
  • What happens if the displayed range falls sharply in hot, cold, hilly or heavily loaded use?

Bottom line

The Ather 450 Apex is the better match for a rider who wants the strongest documented sprint and top-speed claims and can access Ather’s select-centre sales and service network. The Yamaha Aerox E is the more compelling alternative for someone who values a two-pack battery arrangement, Yamaha’s sport-scooter design and its online dealer-booking path. Published specifications do not establish a universal winner: ride both, verify the current local quotation and make sure the charging routine works at home before choosing.
