What it has confirmed is a sharply more selective investment strategy: Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, Fiat, and the Pro One commercial-vehicle business are receiving the clearest priority under the FaSTLAne 2030 plan. Maserati’s weak 2025 results make it the more obvious financial risk, while Lancia remains active through its Gamma project but is not guaranteed equal long-term funding.
Stellantis has not announced that it will shut down, sell, or merge Maserati or Lancia. The evidence supports a narrower conclusion: the automaker is concentrating investment on a smaller group of core brands, leaving less strategically important marques under pressure. Maserati is financially vulnerable, while Lancia remains active but appears more likely to be managed as a focused European brand than funded as a major global pillar.

That makes the headline a forward-looking risk assessment—not a confirmed corporate decision. As of August 12, 2026, Stellantis still lists both Maserati and Lancia in its portfolio, Maserati has an announced pure-luxury recovery plan, and Lancia is progressing with the new Gamma. Stellantis presented its €60 billion FaSTLAne 2030 strategy on May 21, 2026. The plan directs approximately 70% of brand and product investment toward four multi-regional core brands—Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, and Fiat—along with the Pro One commercial-vehicle business. [C003][C004]
#1 Best Overall
That is a major change in emphasis, but it is not a published closure list. Allocating more money to Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, Fiat, and Pro One does not automatically mean that every other marque will disappear. It does mean those brands have a clearer claim on future platforms, products, technology, and geographic expansion.
Reuters reported on April 24 that Lancia, DS, Citroën, and Opel had been identified by sources familiar with the strategy as brands facing reduced emphasis. The report relied on unnamed sources, so it should not be treated as equivalent to a board resolution or an official discontinuation announcement. [C002]
| Question | What the evidence says |
|---|---|
| Has Maserati been officially cancelled? | No. Stellantis says it intends to strengthen Maserati as a pure-luxury brand and is expected to present a more detailed roadmap in December 2026. |
| Has Lancia been officially cancelled? | No. Lancia is working on the Gamma project, with production activity reported at Melfi and the model included in Stellantis’ European product plans. |
| Are both brands under pressure? | Yes. They are outside the four principal multi-regional brands receiving the largest share of investment, and Stellantis is resetting its cost and product strategy. |
| Has Stellantis announced a sale, merger, or end date? | No public announcement has established any of those outcomes for either marque. |
What does a brand “cut” mean in practice?
“Cut” can describe several very different outcomes. A brand may be closed entirely, sold to another owner, kept alive with a smaller model range, restricted to fewer countries, or folded into another marque’s engineering and sales structure.

It is portfolio tiering: the core brands receive the broadest product plans, while specialized or regional brands must justify their investment with stronger margins, distinctive customer demand, or strategic value.
That distinction matters for Maserati and Lancia. A marque can remain legally active and continue selling vehicles while receiving fewer standalone platforms, sharing more components with other Stellantis products, reducing its market coverage, or delaying new models. Those steps can amount to a managed retrenchment without a formal shutdown.
Why Maserati is the more obvious financial risk
Maserati’s FY 2025 results provide the clearest evidence of immediate weakness. Stellantis reported approximately:
Rank #2
- 7,900 shipments, down from 11,300 in 2024;
- €726 million in net revenue, down from €1.040 billion; and
- a €198 million adjusted operating loss, compared with a €260 million loss in 2024.
Shipments and revenue each fell by roughly 30% year over year. The adjusted operating loss improved by €62 million, but Maserati was still losing money at the operating level. These figures explain why investors and industry observers view the marque as vulnerable. [C005]
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The figures also need to be interpreted correctly. An adjusted operating loss is not the same as a net loss, and a lower loss does not by itself prove that the business has returned to health. Maserati needs a sustained improvement in volume, pricing, product mix, manufacturing efficiency, or some combination of those factors.
The brand is operating in a difficult luxury market. Premium buyers have established alternatives across Europe, North America, and other markets, while Chinese manufacturers are increasing competitive pressure in several vehicle categories and regions. Maserati’s challenge is not simply to sell more cars; it must persuade customers to pay luxury-brand prices while offering products that are sufficiently distinctive and profitable.
Maserati still has an official recovery plan
Despite its poor 2025 numbers, Maserati has not been abandoned in Stellantis’ public strategy. Chief executive Antonio Filosa said in the May presentation that the company intended to strengthen Maserati’s future as a pure-luxury brand, including two new large E-segment vehicles. [C003]
On June 18, Reuters reported that Maserati had refreshed the GranTurismo, GranCabrio, and Grecale ranges ahead of a December strategic review. Stellantis has said that a more detailed Maserati roadmap is expected to be presented in Modena in December 2026. [C006]

Reuters has also reported that Stellantis was discussing potential partnerships for Maserati. That could mean industrial, technology, manufacturing, or commercial cooperation. It does not establish that Maserati is being sold, spun off, or transferred to another owner. [C007]
Rank #3
Why Lancia is a different case
Lancia does not have the same publicly reported financial evidence as Maserati in the supplied Stellantis materials. The company’s brand-level sales and profitability are not consistently separated in those sources, so claims about a precise Lancia sales collapse or loss would go beyond the available evidence.
There is, however, evidence that Lancia is being treated as a specialized and primarily regional brand. Stellantis describes Lancia and DS as historic marques with strong roots in Italy and France. That language recognizes their heritage but also suggests a different role from Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, and Fiat, which the 2030 strategy positions as multi-regional pillars. [C002][C004]
Lancia also has an active product commitment. In an official May 26 announcement, the company said production work on the new Lancia Gamma project had begun at Melfi in Italy. Stellantis’ second-quarter 2026 materials continued to identify the Gamma as part of its European C-SUV portfolio. [C008][C009]
The Gamma is important because a current product program is difficult to reconcile with the claim that Lancia has already been scheduled for immediate closure. It does not guarantee the brand’s long-term survival, however. Automakers can complete or launch a vehicle while reducing distribution, sharing more technology, limiting future models, or reviewing the brand’s longer-term role.
The broader financial pressure on Stellantis
The brand review is taking place during a much wider Stellantis reset. The company recorded approximately €22.2 billion of charges in the second half of 2025, associated with product-plan realignment, impairments, restructuring, and other costs. That scale of charge makes capital discipline central to the group’s strategy. [C011]

In that context, Stellantis is unlikely to judge every brand by heritage alone. A marque must support the group’s objectives through profitable volume, high margins, technology or platform utilization, regional strength, or a compelling strategic identity. A brand that consumes engineering and marketing resources without producing an acceptable return becomes harder to defend, particularly when the company is trying to simplify its product plan.

There is also an accounting complication for Maserati. From January 1, 2026, Maserati ceased to be a standalone reportable segment in Stellantis’ reporting structure, with its shipments incorporated into other reporting categories. That change is not evidence that Maserati will be eliminated. It does mean that future public reporting may make direct year-over-year comparison of Maserati’s performance more difficult. [C012]
The four plausible outcomes
| Scenario | What it would look like | Current evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Selective survival | Maserati remains a smaller, high-margin luxury marque, potentially using industrial or technology partners. Lancia continues mainly in Italy and selected European markets. | Consistent with Maserati’s pure-luxury plan and Lancia’s active Gamma program. |
| Managed retrenchment | Both brands remain active but receive fewer standalone platforms, less geographic coverage, and greater reliance on shared Stellantis technology. | Consistent with the investment priority given to the four core brands and Pro One. |
| Partnership or sale | Maserati obtains an outside industrial partner or changes its operating structure. A transfer or repositioning of Lancia is theoretically possible. | Partnership discussions for Maserati have been reported, but no sale or ownership change is confirmed. There is no cited evidence of similar negotiations for Lancia. |
| Eventual discontinuation | One or both brands are eventually closed or absorbed if new products fail to generate acceptable returns. | A future possibility, not a present Stellantis decision. |
What would confirm that the risk has become a decision?
Readers should watch for evidence more decisive than anonymous-source reports or broad investment language:
- The December 2026 Maserati roadmap. Stellantis is expected to explain the brand’s product, ownership, partnership, and investment structure in Modena. The date is expected rather than guaranteed and could change.
- Concrete Maserati product commitments. Details about the two large E-segment vehicles, development timing, production locations, powertrains, and target markets will show whether “pure luxury” means real reinvestment or a limited holding pattern.
- Lancia Gamma execution. Production timing, launch markets, volumes, pricing, and subsequent model commitments will reveal whether Gamma is the beginning of a sustainable range or the last major program under a narrower strategy.
- Distribution and geographic coverage. Dealer withdrawals, market exits, fewer imports, or a decision to sell a brand in only one or two countries would indicate retrenchment even if the badge remains in use.
- Financial transparency. Because Maserati is no longer a standalone reportable segment, investors may need to rely more heavily on management commentary, shipment disclosures, product-level information, and partnership announcements.
- Formal corporate language. A sale agreement, merger announcement, product-plan cancellation, factory reassignment, or explicit end-of-production date would be substantially stronger evidence than a report that a brand is receiving less emphasis.

Bottom line: pressure is real, but the shutdown headline is premature
Stellantis is clearly rationalizing its 14-brand portfolio. Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, Fiat, and Pro One have the strongest stated investment priority, while brands with more regional or specialized roles face a higher burden to prove their value.
Maserati is the more exposed brand financially: its 2025 shipments and revenue fell sharply, and it remained loss-making despite an improvement in its adjusted operating result. Lancia’s risk is less clearly measurable from the available public data, but its position outside the core investment group leaves it vulnerable to a smaller geographic footprint and more shared technology.

Neither brand has been officially marked for closure, sale, merger, or a fixed end date. The strongest present reading is selective survival or managed retrenchment, with Maserati’s December roadmap and the performance of Lancia Gamma serving as the next important tests.

Frequently Asked Questions
Has Stellantis officially announced that Maserati or Lancia is being shut down?
No. As of August 12, 2026, Stellantis has not announced that it will shut down, sell, merge, or set an end date for Maserati or Lancia. The company has announced a more selective investment strategy, but that is not the same as a closure decision.
Why is Maserati considered especially vulnerable?
Maserati reported approximately 7,900 shipments in 2025, down from 11,300 in 2024. Revenue fell to €726 million from €1.040 billion, and the brand recorded a €198 million adjusted operating loss. Those results make Maserati financially vulnerable, although Stellantis says it plans to strengthen the marque as a pure-luxury brand.
Does the Lancia Gamma prove that Lancia is safe?
The Gamma project shows that Lancia remains active. Production work began at Melfi, Italy, and Stellantis’ second-quarter materials included Gamma in its European product plan. However, one active model program does not guarantee long-term funding, global distribution, or continued product expansion.
When will Stellantis provide the next major Maserati update?
Stellantis is expected to present a more detailed Maserati roadmap in Modena in December 2026. The company may clarify the brand’s future products and any industrial partnerships then. The date is expected, not a confirmed closure deadline.
The Bottom Line
Stellantis has put Maserati and Lancia under strategic pressure, but it has not announced that either brand will be cut. Maserati’s December 2026 roadmap and Lancia Gamma’s commercial performance are the key evidence to watch next.
