The U.S. campaign is NHTSA recall 25V798, also identified by Kawasaki as manufacturer campaign MC25-11. It covers certain ZX-6R motorcycles, not automatically every motorcycle sold under those model years or every ZX-6R in every country.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow to check whether your ZX-6R is affected
- Locate the motorcycle’s VIN. Use the VIN location described in your owner’s manual. Kawasaki’s recall system uses the motorcycle’s VIN or HIN, rather than only its model name or year.
- Run the VIN through Kawasaki’s official recall lookup. Enter the complete VIN and review whether the system lists an outstanding safety recall.
- Call an authorized Kawasaki dealer with the VIN. Ask the dealer to check both the current campaign, 25V798/MC25-11, and the earlier campaign, 25V376. The dealer can confirm whether the motorcycle was previously repaired and whether any further action remains open.
- Do not ride an affected or unrepaired motorcycle. Ask the dealer about pickup or an appropriate motorcycle transport arrangement. Kawasaki’s recall instructions say not to ride covered motorcycles until the authorized repair is complete.
- Keep the records. Save the VIN result, the campaign number, the dealer’s repair order, mileage, and any transport or repair receipts.
A model-year or trim-level match is only a screening signal. The VIN result and the authorized dealer’s records determine whether a particular motorcycle is affected and whether its recall status is closed.

What the Kawasaki ZX-6R recall involves
The defect involves excessive axial force from crankcase bolts. That force can damage the number-five metal crankshaft bushing and create incorrect oil clearance. If the bushing is damaged or seizes, the engine may unexpectedly lose power or stall while the motorcycle is moving. That creates a crash risk.
The recall documents state that the problem may occur without a warning beforehand. An engine that has not made unusual noises and has not stalled is not necessarily safe to ride. The absence of symptoms does not replace a VIN check.
The U.S. NHTSA Part 573 report identifies a potentially involved population of 19,823 motorcycles produced from April 3, 2023, through July 15, 2025. Those production dates do not mean every motorcycle built during that period is recalled; the individual VIN still controls.
Which Ninja ZX-6R model years and trims are possible matches?
For U.S. owners, use 2024–2026 model years as the initial screening range. The U.S. report identifies certain motorcycles in the ZX636J and ZX636K families, including listed variants such as:
- 2024 Ninja ZX-6R 40th Anniversary Edition ABS
- 2024 Ninja ZX-6R 40th Anniversary Edition
- 2025 and 2026 Ninja ZX-6R
- 2025 and 2026 Ninja ZX-6R KRT Edition
- 2025 and 2026 Ninja ZX-6R ABS and KRT Edition ABS variants
This is not a statement that every 2024, 2025, or 2026 ZX-6R is included. Say “certain 2024–2026 Ninja ZX-6R motorcycles” unless the VIN lookup confirms a specific motorcycle is covered.
Already had the first recall repair? Check the VIN again
The current campaign is not simply a duplicate notice that can be ignored after an earlier dealer visit.
The first U.S. recall, NHTSA 25V376, was announced in June 2025 for certain 2024–2025 Ninja ZX-6R motorcycles. It also concerned crankshaft-bushing seizure, possible engine-power loss, and stalling. NHTSA listed 17,792 potentially affected motorcycles in that campaign and advised owners not to ride until repair.
Kawasaki later reported that some motorcycles repaired under 25V376 could still experience the problem. The earlier repair process might not have controlled crankcase-bolt axial force or relevant manufacturing variation sufficiently. As a result, a dealer’s completion of the first recall does not automatically prove that the motorcycle is clear of the expanded campaign.

If your motorcycle was repaired under 25V376, ask the dealer specifically:
- Was this VIN included in the expanded 25V798/MC25-11 campaign?
- Does the current campaign remain open?
- Was the earlier repair accepted as the corrective action for this VIN, or is additional work required?
- Can you provide a dated repair order showing the current campaign is complete?
What the authorized dealer repair involves
The remedy requires an inspection of the number-five crankshaft bushing, including motorcycles that received work under the earlier recall.
- If the bushing is in acceptable condition, the dealer retightens the crankshaft bolts using Kawasaki’s specified angle-tightening method.
- If the bushing is damaged or abnormal, the motorcycle may need replacement parts or engine repair or replacement, according to Kawasaki’s repair instructions.
Kawasaki’s report says a repaired motorcycle receives a white mark on the right side of the crankcase. Do not use that mark as a substitute for a VIN lookup or dealer documentation; the dealer’s repair record is the better proof of campaign completion.

Do not attempt to correct it with consumer-purchased crankcase parts, bushings, torque tools, or a service-manual procedure. The documented remedy is to be performed by an authorized Kawasaki dealer.
Can you ride the ZX-6R to the dealership?
No—do not ride it if the recall is open, if the motorcycle is identified as affected but unrepaired, or if the status cannot be confirmed. The potential failure can cause sudden engine-power loss or a stall, and the recall documents say there may be no warning.
Call the authorized dealer and explain that the motorcycle is subject to, or may be subject to, the ZX-6R crankshaft-bushing recall. Ask whether the dealer can arrange pickup or tell you what form of professional motorcycle transport it accepts. Do not assume that a passenger-car tow, improvised tie-down arrangement, or a ride to the dealer is safe for your motorcycle.
If the motorcycle has already stalled, lost power, developed unusual engine noise, or suffered engine damage, stop using it and tell Kawasaki or the dealer exactly what happened. An article cannot determine whether a symptom is caused by the recall or another mechanical fault.
Is the recall repair free?
Safety recall repairs are generally handled by the manufacturer and authorized dealer without charge to the owner when the motorcycle is covered by the campaign. Confirm the details with the dealer using the VIN, particularly if the motorcycle is outside its original warranty period or has changed ownership.

If you paid for a qualifying repair before the recall remedy was issued or expanded, ask Kawasaki or the dealer about reimbursement. The recall report describes a reimbursement process for documented prior repair costs in qualifying circumstances. Keep invoices, repair orders, proof of payment, and transport receipts; reimbursement eligibility and documentation requirements must be confirmed with Kawasaki.
Recall status outside the United States
Recall campaign numbers and affected populations vary by market. Do not assume that U.S. campaign 25V798 settles the status of a motorcycle registered in another country.
| Market | Reported campaign information |
|---|---|
| United States | NHTSA 25V798; Kawasaki MC25-11. The report covers certain 2024–2026 motorcycles and includes motorcycles previously repaired under the first campaign. |
| United States, earlier campaign | NHTSA 25V376, announced in June 2025 for certain 2024–2025 ZX-6R motorcycles. |
| Japan | Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism campaign 5684, published July 3, 2025, covered 1,930 2024–2025 model 8BL-ZX636J motorcycles and described the same crankshaft-bushing and oil-clearance defect. |
| Canada | Transport Canada recall 2025651 covers 2024, 2025, and 2026 ZX-6R motorcycles. It says repairs completed under Canadian recall 2025-335 may not have been effective and require the replacement corrective action. |
| Mexico | Mexico’s consumer-protection authority, Profeco, reported on May 6, 2026 that Kawasaki Motors de México recalled 691 ZX636J/ZX636K motorcycles from model years 2024–2026. |
| Australia | Kawasaki Australia’s recall information identifies 2024–2025MY ZX636J motorcycles, while the Australian government vehicle-recall listing separately records a 2024–2026 ZX636J campaign. |
Owners outside the U.S. should use their national vehicle-recall database and contact the Kawasaki distributor or authorized dealer in the country where the motorcycle is registered. A result from one country’s VIN system does not necessarily establish recall status in another market.

Buying a used Ninja ZX-6R? Check before paying
Ask the seller for the complete VIN before you travel to see the motorcycle or send a deposit. Check the VIN through the relevant official recall system and have an authorized Kawasaki dealer verify the campaign status.
Do not rely on statements such as “the recall was done.” Request a dated dealer repair order that identifies the campaign and VIN, then confirm that the current campaign is closed. This extra step matters because some motorcycles repaired under 25V376 may still require action under 25V798/MC25-11.
If the VIN shows an open recall, treat that as a purchase condition to resolve with the dealer—not as a reason to ride the motorcycle home. Confirm who will arrange and pay for transport and obtain written confirmation when the authorized repair is complete.

Does the recall affect every 2024, 2025, or 2026 Ninja ZX-6R?
No. The U.S. campaign applies to certain motorcycles, not automatically every ZX-6R from those model years. A VIN lookup and authorized-dealer confirmation are required.
How do I check my ZX-6R recall status?
Locate the complete VIN using the owner’s manual, enter it into Kawasaki’s official recall lookup, and then contact an authorized dealer to verify the current campaign and any previous repair history.
Where do I find the ZX-6R VIN?
The exact location varies by Kawasaki product. Use the owner’s manual for the motorcycle-specific VIN location, then use the complete VIN in Kawasaki’s recall system.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIs a bike repaired under the first recall automatically cleared?
No. Check the VIN again. Kawasaki reported that some motorcycles repaired under the earlier U.S. campaign, NHTSA 25V376, could still require action under the expanded 25V798/MC25-11 campaign.
Can I ride my ZX-6R to the dealership?
No. Kawasaki’s instructions say not to ride a covered 2024–2026 ZX-6R until the authorized repair is complete. Ask the dealer about pickup or a safe professional transport arrangement.
What does the dealer repair involve?
The dealer inspects the number-five crankshaft bushing. If it is sound, the crankshaft bolts are retightened using the specified angle-tightening method. If the bushing is damaged, parts or engine repair or replacement may be required.
Is the ZX-6R recall repair free?
Confirm coverage and any charge with an authorized Kawasaki dealer using the VIN. Kawasaki recall reports also describe reimbursement for documented prior repair costs in qualifying circumstances, so keep repair and payment records.
What should I do if I am buying a used ZX-6R?
Request the VIN before buying, check it with the relevant official recall system, and obtain a dated dealer repair order confirming that the current campaign is closed. A seller’s verbal assurance is not enough.
Does the U.S. recall apply outside the United States?
Not necessarily. Campaign numbers and coverage differ by country. Use the recall database and Kawasaki distributor for the motorcycle’s registration market; a U.S. NHTSA result does not settle status elsewhere.
The Bottom Line
The safest answer is VIN-specific: certain 2024–2026 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R motorcycles are affected by the expanded crankshaft-bushing recall, and a motorcycle repaired under the first recall may still require the current corrective action. Check the VIN with Kawasaki, confirm the result with an authorized dealer, and do not ride an affected or uncertain motorcycle until the authorized repair is complete.
