Usually, no—if the sound, rising revs and physical drama of a V10 or V12 are the main reason you want a supercar. An electric hypercar can still be worth buying when your priorities are immediate torque, repeatable acceleration and finely controllable four-wheel performance. It delivers a different kind of excitement rather than a silent version of the same experience. If you want both electric assistance and a large combustion engine, a V12 plug-in hybrid such as the Lamborghini Revuelto is the most direct compromise, but it remains a hybrid with the weight, complexity and fuel requirements that implies.
The right answer depends on what you are buying the car to do: provide an engine soundtrack on a special road, deliver the quickest and most controllable acceleration, serve as a track tool, or occupy a place in a collection. The Nevera, Evija and Revuelto show three distinct interpretations of that choice.

What “worth buying” means in this decision
“Worth it” is not an objective ranking of electric and combustion supercars. It is a match between the car’s character and the reason you want one. A buyer who regards the engine as the centerpiece may find an electric car technically astonishing but emotionally incomplete. A buyer who values response, traction and the ability to meter power precisely may prefer the electric experience even without a combustion note.
Identify the non-negotiable

If the first or third statement is non-negotiable, an all-electric car is unlikely to satisfy that specific requirement. If the second is primary, an electric hypercar may be a better fit than its lack of engine noise initially suggests. If you want both sets of qualities, a hybrid is the compromise to investigate rather than treating a battery-electric model as an equivalent replacement.
Do not let a headline figure decide for you
Power and acceleration numbers describe only part of the experience. They do not tell you whether you enjoy the sound, the way speed builds, the visibility of a gear change or the sensation of managing a combustion engine. Manufacturer outputs in this article are not independent tests, and the published range and consumption figures use specified test cycles. A supervised drive in an appropriate setting is more informative than a spreadsheet when the question is emotional engagement.
How the driving experience differs
All-electric response
Electric motors can deliver torque without waiting for an engine to build revs or a gearbox to select a lower ratio. In a high-output car with individually controlled motors, the control system can also vary torque at each wheel. That can make acceleration feel immediate and can support precise management of traction through a corner. The sensation is a clean, continuous surge rather than a sequence of combustion pulses, gear changes and rising intake and exhaust noise.

The absence of a rev climb means there is no equivalent of holding a gear toward the top of a V10 or V12’s range. Regenerative braking and software calibration add another layer of adjustability, but they do not recreate the mechanical rhythm of an engine and dual-clutch transmission.
V10 and V12 character
A V10 or V12 gives the driver several forms of feedback at once: vibration, induction and exhaust sound, a changing pitch as revs rise, and the physical event of a gearshift. Those cues can make speed feel progressive and earned. They are also why a combustion-focused buyer may prefer a slower car on a memorable road to a faster car that feels less sonically and mechanically expressive.

This does not make combustion objectively more exciting. It means the source of excitement is different. An electric car can be more immediate and easier to modulate while still failing the particular test of “does it sound and feel like the engine I came for?”
The hybrid middle ground
The Revuelto combines a V12 with three electric motors and a dual-clutch e-gearbox. Lamborghini lists 1,015 CV of combined output and describes the car as “the first HPEV hybrid super sports car” on its product page (Lamborghini Revuelto). Its electric assistance can add instant response and traction while the V12 preserves combustion sound and rev character.
That combination is a compromise, not a way to eliminate trade-offs. A hybrid system adds hardware and mass. In a road report, Car and Driver said the added mass was accompanied by improved driving behavior and that the V12 experience remained intact; that is the publication’s driving impression, not a universal owner verdict (Car and Driver’s Revuelto drive report).
Three cars that clarify the choice
The following figures come from the manufacturers’ current product pages or brochure. They are not directly comparable test results: output is quoted in different units, range is a laboratory-cycle value, and production limits describe each maker’s stated plan.

Rimac Nevera: the all-electric performance case
Rimac identifies the Nevera as an all-electric two-seat hypercar with four independent motors, 1,914 hp and a 120 kWh battery. Its stated 489 km WLTP range is a test-cycle result, not a promise that every driver will cover that distance in real traffic, weather or at high speed. Rimac also states a 150-unit production limit. Those facts make the Nevera a useful reference for the electric side of the decision: immense output and independent motor control, with the practical planning requirements of a battery vehicle.

Choose this type of car when your priority is the character of electric thrust and the precision of software-managed traction. Do not choose it expecting an engine note, a rev counter that tells the story of acceleration, or the same mechanical ceremony as a V12. The published range should be treated as a planning starting point; ask the local representative how charging access, operating conditions and regional support apply to the exact car.

Lotus presents the Evija as an all-electric hypercar limited to 130 examples and lists 2,011 bhp on its current UK page. The same page warns that range may change after European type approval. That qualification matters: do not turn the current output into an assumption about final certified range or about how the car will perform in a particular country.
The Evija may appeal to a collector who wants a rare electric flagship rather than a high-volume performance model. Its scarcity does not make it a substitute for a V10 or V12. The buying question remains sensory: is the rarity and electric response what you want to own, or is the engine itself the collectible object?
Lamborghini Revuelto: the V12 compromise
The Revuelto is the direct answer for someone who wants electrification without giving up a V12. Lamborghini lists 1,015 CV combined, three electric motors and a dual-clutch e-gearbox. Its Città mode can drive the car electrically, but the existence of a short electric mode should not be confused with long-range battery-electric capability.
Lamborghini’s 2024 brochure lists weighted combined WLTP consumption of 11.86 L/100 km, weighted combined electricity consumption of 10.1 kWh/100 km and weighted combined CO₂ emissions of 276 g/km for the specified market and version (2024 Revuelto brochure). These are manufacturer-cycle figures, not a guarantee of what you will see on a road trip or during repeated hard driving.

Match the powertrain to how you will use the car
Road driving and special trips
For a dawn drive on roads where sound and revs are part of the occasion, a V10 or V12 is likely to deliver the emotional result you are seeking. An electric car can be exceptionally quick and quiet, which some owners will find relaxing and others anticlimactic. Consider whether you want the car to create an event through noise and mechanical participation or through effortless speed and control.
Track use
An electric car’s immediate torque and wheel-by-wheel control can be compelling on a circuit, but track suitability depends on the exact car, thermal management, available charging and the organizer’s facilities. The cited sources do not establish lap-time comparisons, battery endurance, charging speed or track support for these models. Obtain those details for the specific vehicle rather than assuming that the largest power number is the best track choice.
Collection and display
Limited production can matter to a collector, but a production number does not tell you whether the car’s significance will match your personal interests. A 130-example electric hypercar and a 150-unit electric hypercar are both rare by the manufacturers’ stated plans; neither supplies the sound or historical engine experience of a V12. Buy the object you want to live with, not a theory about future desirability.
Regular use
Regular use makes charging access, route planning and local service more important than a brochure headline. A battery-electric car requires a charging routine that suits your home and travel pattern. A plug-in hybrid can cover some driving electrically but still requires fuel and combustion-engine maintenance. The supplied specifications do not establish charging times, service intervals, warranty terms, insurance costs or battery-replacement pricing for any of these cars, so those items must be confirmed in your market before signing.
Practical questions to settle before ordering
Charging and energy planning
Ask the authorized representative to document the charging equipment and electrical requirements for your garage, the connector and regional charging compatibility, and the expected procedure when traveling. Confirm how the manufacturer defines the quoted range and whether a local market uses the same test cycle. For the Revuelto, clarify how the Città electric mode is intended to be used and what electric-only distance is certified for your exact specification; do not infer it from the existence of the mode.

Availability and specification
Production limits and type-approval notes mean availability can vary by country and model year. Request a written confirmation of build allocation, delivery timing, final certified specifications and any market-specific equipment. Lotus specifically notes that Evija range may change after European type approval, so a current web-page figure or omission is not a substitute for the final documentation.
Warranty, service and insurance
Before purchase, obtain the warranty booklet and ask which parts of the high-voltage system, motors, battery and combustion powertrain are covered, for how long and under what usage conditions. Ask where scheduled and emergency work can be performed, how far the nearest trained facility is, and how the insurer values a limited-production car. These are buyer-specific commercial and ownership facts, and the cited sources do not provide comparable answers.
A decision framework that keeps emotion and practicality separate
Use the following sequence rather than trying to average every attribute into one score:
- Write the emotional requirement. Complete the sentence “I will regret this purchase if it does not…” If the ending is “sound like a V12” or “build revs,” remove all-electric cars from the shortlist.
- Define the primary use. Mark road enjoyment, track driving, collection, regular commuting or a combination. Give one use priority; otherwise every compromise will feel like a surprise.
- Choose the acceptable compromise. Decide whether you can accept no combustion soundtrack, fuel and engine maintenance, or added hybrid mass. There is no version that removes all three trade-offs.
- Verify the infrastructure. Confirm charging, storage, service coverage, insurance and local approval for the exact model and country.
- Drive both experiences. Arrange a supervised drive in an electric hypercar and a V10/V12 or V12 hybrid, using the same kinds of roads where possible. Pay attention to your reaction after the novelty of acceleration fades.
- Make the final choice on the ownership scenario. If the car will be used rarely, decide whether you are buying an engine experience, an electric technology statement or a limited-production object. If it will be used often, make the charging and service plan work on an ordinary week, not only on ideal trips.
How to test-drive without being misled by acceleration
First run: low-speed control
Drive gently and listen to what you miss or notice. In the electric car, evaluate accelerator smoothness, regenerative-braking behavior and how naturally you can place the car. In the combustion or hybrid car, notice clutch and gearbox behavior, throttle response before the engine is at high revs, and whether the sound adds to the occasion.
Second run: a safe acceleration section
Use a legal, controlled location and make only a few representative accelerations. After the initial shock, ask whether the power delivery remains interesting or merely effective. In the hybrid, try the car with the electric system contributing and with the V12 clearly working; the point is to understand the blend, not to recreate a magazine test.
Third run: sustained driving
Spend enough time at normal road speeds to expose the ownership character. Check visibility, seating, noise, ride and the ease of charging or fueling as applicable. A car that is thrilling for one launch but tiring or inconvenient for every other mile may not be worth buying for your intended use.
Common buying mistakes
- Assuming faster means more enjoyable. Performance figures do not measure sound, rev progression or personal connection.
- Treating WLTP range as a travel guarantee. The Nevera’s 489 km figure is a test-cycle result; real distance varies with conditions and driving style.
- Calling a hybrid fully electric. The Revuelto’s Città mode is an electric-driving feature within a V12 plug-in hybrid, not long-range EV capability.
- Ignoring certification changes. Lotus warns that Evija range may change after European type approval; verify the final market specification.
- Buying on scarcity alone. A stated 130- or 150-unit limit establishes rarity, not future value or satisfaction.
- Skipping local due diligence. Price, taxes, availability, charging installation, warranty, service and insurance vary by country and exact vehicle. None is settled by the headline specifications.
Verdict
An electric supercar is worth buying if you genuinely prefer immediate, controllable electric performance and accept that the experience will not include a V10 or V12’s sound and rising revs. It is the wrong purchase when those combustion qualities are the central emotional requirement. The Lamborghini Revuelto offers the clearest middle path: a V12, three electric motors and a dual-clutch e-gearbox, with electric assistance rather than an all-electric identity. The Rimac Nevera and Lotus Evija demonstrate why someone can choose electric power on purpose, but neither should be presented as a replacement for the sensation of a large combustion engine. Test both types, verify the exact local ownership conditions, and buy the character you want—not merely the quickest specification.
