One recorded sale, valuation-guide figures and an auction-market median are different kinds of evidence—not a forecast or a complete return calculation.
What the available prices show
The clearest reference point is the Demon 170’s original price. Dodge announced 1,025 horsepower and a $96,666 original MSRP, excluding destination and fees, in 2023. Dodge’s announcement is a manufacturer specification and price reference, not a current valuation.
Later figures offer a snapshot of the market, but they should not be treated as interchangeable:

Hagerty’s recorded sale is above the original base MSRP, while its displayed condition values and Marque’s median are lower than that single sale. Because these numbers come from different sources, dates, samples and valuation methods, they do not combine into a single current price series. Hagerty’s record for the specific sale and Marque’s U.S. market data are useful reference points, not interchangeable estimates for any particular car.

Why a price above MSRP does not prove an investment return
The comparison between a later sale and original MSRP leaves out what a buyer actually paid and what it cost to own and sell the car. The figures above do not calculate taxes, storage, insurance, maintenance, financing, transaction fees or inflation-adjusted return. They also do not establish how quickly a car could be sold at a comparable price.
A purchase above MSRP could still lose money after those costs; a sale above MSRP does not show that every owner made a profit. Historical sale prices are observations, not guarantees of future appreciation or liquidity.

How to evaluate a specific Demon or Demon 170
Compare like with like rather than relying on a model-wide headline number. Before estimating value, check:
- Condition and mileage: Use evidence for cars with similar wear and use, and distinguish guide categories from completed transactions.
- Originality and equipment: Confirm what remains original and which equipment or options are documented.
- Records and provenance: Review ownership history and available documentation; do not assume a claim adds value without evidence.
- Sale context: Match sale date, location and auction venue as closely as possible. Asking prices are not completed-sale evidence.
- Total costs: Include acquisition charges, taxes, ownership expenses and the fees involved in resale before calling any gain a return.
For a credible comparison, use multiple completed sales with comparable condition, mileage, originality, documentation, options, geography and venue. A single standout transaction is not enough to establish what another example is worth.

Does the 2018 Demon look like a better investment than the Demon 170?
The available figures do not support a reliable investment ranking between the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon and the 2023 Demon 170. The cited price evidence concerns the Demon 170 and does not provide a sufficiently matched set of sales for both models. To compare them, you would need completed sales for each and a consistent basis for adjusting for condition, mileage, originality, documentation, options, geography and fees.
Without that comparison, claims that one is the stronger investment would go beyond the evidence. Buyers can still weigh each car’s features and personal appeal, but those are not substitutes for a demonstrated, cost-adjusted return.
