Aptera showcased a production-intent version of its solar electric vehicle at CES 2025 in Las Vegas after aerodynamic refinement work with Automobili Pininfarina. The display marked a public debut, not proof of production readiness or customer deliveries: a later company filing said validation vehicles were still undergoing testing and certification ahead of low-volume production.
What Aptera showed at CES 2025
Aptera announced a public display at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Central Plaza booth CP-517, during CES 2025. Its January 7 announcement called the vehicle “production-ready” while also describing the exhibited vehicle as production-intent. Those phrases reflect the company’s announcement; they do not establish that customer vehicles were ready to buy or being delivered. What “more slippery” means
The headline refers to aerodynamic refinement, not a measured performance result. New Atlas reported that Aptera had refined the design after wind-tunnel work with Pininfarina in Turin. It also reported that Aptera’s website listed a drag coefficient of 0.13 at the time of its January 2025 article. That is a company figure reported by New Atlas, not an independent measurement published in that article or a result established by Aptera’s later SEC filing. New Atlas’s report quoted Pininfarina mobility executive Giuseppe Bonollo describing Aptera’s work as pushing “the boundaries of what’s possible in vehicle design and efficiency”; that is a partner’s promotional assessment, not a technical validation.
Range and solar-driving claims
In its CES announcement, Aptera claimed up to 400 miles of range on a charge and up to 40 miles of solar-powered driving per day. It also said drivers in sunny locations could get more than 10,000 miles of solar-powered driving annually. These are company claims, not independent test results. Aptera’s 2026 filing later characterized daily and annual solar estimates as based on internal tests and optimal sunny locations, so they should not be read as a guaranteed contribution for every climate, parking situation, or driving pattern. Where the vehicle stood after the debut
Aptera’s 2026 SEC filing said it had assembled the first of several validation vehicles using production-intent parts. Those vehicles were undergoing testing and certification before low-volume production. That later status is a more useful guide to development progress than the CES display: exhibiting a vehicle, using production-intent parts, and completing the work needed for production are separate milestones. The filing also reported more than 49,000 vehicle reservations; a reservation count is not a delivery total.
Charging and practical compatibility
The same filing says the vehicle is designed to charge through either a standard household electrical outlet or a NACS connector. That establishes the intended charging options, but owners should confirm final vehicle and equipment compatibility in the documentation for the production vehicle before choosing home charging hardware.

What the CES numbers do—and do not—say
Aptera’s January 2025 announcement said it had nearly 50,000 reservations representing more than $1.7 billion in potential revenue and had raised $135 million through equity crowdfunding. These were company-reported figures at the time of the announcement, not current reservation or funding totals. The later filing’s figure of more than 49,000 reservations is also a company disclosure, not evidence of customer deliveries or completed sales.
