The Antic Self-Balancing Electric Minibike by Future Motion is a recreational electric mini bike with a 35 mph advertised top speed, 28–50 miles of current advertised range, and a $2,100 starting price. Its defining feature is Onewheel Mode, which uses sensors to assist wheelies; the rider still needs practice, balance, protective gear, and a legal place to ride.

Antic is not a conventional pedal e-bike. Future Motion combines a retro minibike frame with Onewheel-derived motors, batteries, tires, and control technology, then adds a twist throttle, footpegs, hydraulic front suspension, and app-adjustable settings. The result is an entertaining performance machine, but buyers should not assume that it is a practical commuter, universally street legal, or independently proven for long-term reliability.

Key takeaways

  • Antic is a Future Motion electric mini bike with a 35 mph advertised top speed, not a conventional pedal-assist e-bike.
  • Onewheel Mode uses gyroscope and accelerometer sensors to help hold a wheelie and reduce loopouts, but the rider still needs practice, control, and side-to-side balance.
  • The official Antic page lists 28–50 miles of advertised range and a $2,100 starting price, while Future Motion’s launch announcement identifies three configurations with different range and tire equipment.
  • Antic’s street, sidewalk, and trail legality depends on local law; the bike is not automatically classified or legal as an e-bike everywhere.
  • Antic requires serious protective equipment and pre-ride checks because a loss of control, collision, or fall can cause death or serious injury.

What is the Antic Self-Balancing Electric Minibike by Future Motion?

The Antic Self-Balancing Electric Minibike by Future Motion is a recreational electric mini bike built around a retro 1970s-inspired minibike frame and technology derived from Onewheel. Unlike a normal electric bicycle, the Antic uses a twist throttle, footpegs, wide tires, and a sensor-assisted riding mode designed to help the rider hold a wheelie.

Future Motion says Antic bikes use Onewheel hub motors, batteries, tires, and control technology. The company positions the machine as a playful performance vehicle rather than as a practical replacement for a commuter bicycle. Antic’s official product page describes Onewheel Mode as a system that uses gyroscopes and accelerometers to help hold a wheelie and prevent loopouts.

The company’s launch announcement described the product as a reimagined mini bike that can balance riders in a wheelie. That description should not be read as autonomous riding: the rider still controls the bike, needs to learn the behavior of the system, and remains responsible for balance, steering, braking, and judgment.

How fast does the Antic bike go?

The current official Antic product page advertises a 35 mph top speed. That is a manufacturer-listed maximum, not an independently verified performance result, and actual speed can vary with rider weight, battery charge, surface, temperature, riding mode, and local conditions. See the official Antic product page for the current advertised specification.

A 35 mph mini bike deserves a more cautious approach than a typical low-speed pedal e-bike. At that speed, protective equipment, braking distance, surface hazards, traffic exposure, and local vehicle rules matter substantially. New riders should learn the bike at low speed in a controlled, private area before attempting wheelies or faster riding.

How far can an Antic go on one charge?

The official Antic page currently advertises 28–50 miles of range, while Future Motion’s November 19, 2025 launch announcement gives model-specific figures ranging from 12 to 50 miles. These figures are advertised ranges rather than a standardized independent range test, so buyers should not assume that every ride will achieve the upper number.

Configuration Advertised range in launch announcement Launch price Notable equipment
Base 12–28 miles $2,100 Standard configuration
Long Range 24–50 miles $2,700 Extended-range configuration
Long Range+ 24–50 miles $2,900 Extended range plus Performance Treaded tires

According to Future Motion’s November 19, 2025 launch announcement, the base Antic was listed at $2,100 with 12–28 miles of range, the Long Range at $2,700 with 24–50 miles, and the Long Range+ at $2,900 with 24–50 miles and upgraded Performance Treaded tires. The company’s launch announcement contains those configuration details.

The difference between the current page’s 28–50-mile headline and the launch release’s model-specific 12–50-mile range is important. Treat the live product page as the current headline advertising, but confirm the exact configuration, battery, price, and included equipment before ordering.

Does the Antic really balance wheelies?

Yes, Onewheel Mode is designed to assist with holding a wheelie, but it does not remove the need for rider skill. The Antic uses gyro and accelerometer sensors to detect and control the bike’s behavior, and the rider can adjust the wheelie angle in the companion app.

The system’s purpose is to help prevent loopouts, a backward fall that can happen when a wheelie rotates too far. Sensor assistance is different from hands-free or autonomous balancing: the rider must still manage throttle input, steering, body position, side-to-side balance, braking, and the riding environment.

A January 27, 2026 GearJunkie first-ride report described the wheelie as accessible but still requiring practice, control, and side-to-side balance. That is a third-party ride impression, not a laboratory test, standardized safety evaluation, or long-term durability study.

What is different about the Antic compared with a conventional mini bike?

The Antic’s main distinction is not simply that it has an electric motor. Its defining difference is the combination of Onewheel-derived control technology, a twist-throttle minibike layout, and a mode intended to assist wheelies.

Decision area Antic Conventional mini bike or pedal e-bike
Primary control Twist throttle and footpegs Mini bikes commonly use a throttle; pedal e-bikes use pedals and bicycle-style controls
Wheelie assistance Onewheel Mode uses sensors to help hold a wheelie Usually no comparable sensor-assisted wheelie mode
Powertrain Onewheel-derived hub motors, batteries, tires, and control technology Varies by vehicle; conventional pedal e-bikes generally use bicycle drivetrain components
Surface emphasis Wide tires and manufacturer-described use on surfaces such as grass and packed sand Depends on tire, suspension, frame, and vehicle design
Adjustability App-adjustable settings include regenerative braking and wheelie angle Varies; many basic mini bikes have fewer software controls
Legal category Must be determined under local law Also depends on the vehicle’s specifications and jurisdiction
Best fit Recreation, novelty, and wheelie-focused performance Transportation, trail riding, or simple recreation depending on the model

Antic emphasizes wide tires and riding on grass or packed sand, but that is a manufacturer claim rather than an independent terrain test. Loose, wet, uneven, or unfamiliar surfaces can still reduce traction and control.

What equipment does the Antic have?

Future Motion’s launch materials describe a twist throttle, hydraulic front suspension, front hydraulic braking, rear regenerative braking, wide tires, app customization, and Onewheel-derived components. The live product page specifically says riders can adjust regenerative braking and wheelie angle in the app.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The hardware makes the Antic feel closer to a small powered recreational vehicle than to a standard bicycle. Buyers should pay particular attention to the braking arrangement: the launch description identifies hydraulic braking at the front and regenerative braking at the rear, so riders should understand how the controls behave before riding near traffic, pedestrians, obstacles, or slopes.

What does an Antic cost?

The current official Antic page advertises a $2,100 starting price. Future Motion’s launch pricing was $2,100 for the Base, $2,700 for the Long Range, and $2,900 for the Long Range+. Prices and availability can change, so the live manufacturer product listing should take precedence over older launch coverage.

Buyer priority Most relevant configuration Why Main trade-off
Lowest entry price Base Starts at $2,100 and is listed at 12–28 miles in the launch announcement Shorter advertised range than the Long Range versions
More riding range Long Range Listed at 24–50 miles in the launch announcement $600 more than the launch Base price
Range plus upgraded tires Long Range+ Combines the extended-range specification with Performance Treaded tires $800 more than the launch Base price

Whether the Antic is worth $2,100 depends on the intended use. The price is easier to justify for a buyer specifically seeking a sensor-assisted wheelie machine and recreational novelty. The value proposition is weaker for someone primarily seeking efficient commuting, pedal assistance, cargo capacity, or predictable public-road legality.

Is the Antic an e-bike or a mini motorcycle?

The Antic is best described editorially as an electric mini bike, not automatically as a conventional e-bike or mini motorcycle. Its legal classification depends on details such as power, speed, equipment, vehicle definitions, and the rules of the state, city, trail system, or other place where it is ridden.

The Antic uses a twist throttle and footpegs rather than a normal pedal-assist bicycle setup. Those characteristics may matter under local definitions, but this article cannot assign one nationwide legal category to every Antic configuration or riding location.

Is the Antic street legal?

The Antic is not universally street legal across the United States. Public-road, bike-lane, trail, and sidewalk rules vary by jurisdiction, and the manufacturer instructs riders to check applicable local statutes before riding. The official Antic legal-use guidance discusses the location-dependent rules.

Do not assume that a vehicle’s advertised speed, lights, reflectors, or electric powertrain automatically makes it legal on public roads. Before riding outside private property, check:

  • How local law defines e-bikes, electric motorcycles, motorized bicycles, minibikes, and similar vehicles.
  • Whether the vehicle must be registered, titled, insured, licensed, or equipped with specific lights, reflectors, brakes, or mirrors.
  • Whether sidewalks, bicycle lanes, multi-use paths, parks, and off-road areas permit the vehicle.
  • Whether private-property permission or trail-specific rules apply.

Sidewalk use deserves separate caution. The answer to “Can you ride an Antic on sidewalks?” is location-specific, and pedestrian-priority rules may prohibit or restrict motorized vehicles even where other public riding is allowed.

What safety gear do you need for an Antic?

Antic’s first-rider guidance warns of death or serious injury from loss of control, collisions, and falls. The manufacturer says riders should wear a certified helmet, shoes that stay on the feet and grip the pegs, and should consider gloves and protective pads. Antic’s explicit guidance states: Always wear an ASTM F1492-08, CPSC , CE EN1078 or DOT certified helmet when riding your Antic. Read the complete Antic first-rider safety guidance before operating the bike.

A properly fitted electric bike helmet or other helmet appropriate to the riding activity is a sensible starting point, but the product’s actual certification, fit, coverage, and intended use must be checked individually. A generic bicycle helmet should not automatically be treated as suitable for every speed, surface, or riding situation.

CPSC micromobility guidance recommends following local traffic laws, wearing a bicycle helmet, checking the handlebars, brakes, throttle, lights, tires, cables, and frame before riding, and using equipment that improves visibility. The CDC bicycle-safety guidance says properly fitted bicycle helmets reduce the risk of head and brain injuries.

What should you check before every ride?

  1. Helmet and clothing: Confirm that the helmet fits securely. Wear shoes that grip the pegs and stay on your feet; add gloves, knee protection, elbow protection, and other suitable protective equipment for the planned riding.
  2. Controls: Check the throttle, handlebars, controls, and display or app settings before moving.
  3. Brakes: Test the front hydraulic brake and confirm that regenerative braking behaves as expected.
  4. Wheels and tires: Inspect the wide tires for visible damage, unusual wear, or low pressure.
  5. Frame and cables: Look for damage, loose components, or compromised cables.
  6. Visibility: Confirm that lights and reflectors are present and working when riding in conditions that require visibility.
  7. Environment: Choose a controlled area free from traffic, pedestrians, obstacles, loose hazards, and unexpected slopes while learning.
  8. Battery and settings: Start with enough charge for the planned ride and use conservative settings until the bike’s response is familiar.

What accessories and replacement parts fit the Antic mini bike?

Future Motion maintains a dedicated Antic catalog with accessories and replacement products. The official collection lists items including front and rear fenders, a Tail Light Kit, Split Brake Kit, Hypercharger, kickstand, bar pad, faceplate, seat, frame decals, charger plug, footpegs, rear pegs, slider pegs, reflector stickers, a cleaning kit, home charger, and Antic replacement motors.

Before ordering a part, match the item to the exact Antic configuration and confirm compatibility with the manufacturer. The official Antic accessories and replacement-parts catalog is the appropriate reference for current availability.

Where are Antic bikes made?

Future Motion’s official About page says Antic bikes are designed and assembled in the United States, with production in San Jose, California. The company’s About page also quotes founder and CEO Kyle Doerksen: Antic started as a nights and weekends side project in the Future Motion workshop. That origin story explains the relationship to Onewheel, but it does not by itself establish long-term reliability or service performance.

What does the current evidence not prove?

The available evidence supports the advertised specifications, the Onewheel Mode explanation, official safety guidance, legal-use cautions, and the existence of dedicated parts and accessories. The evidence does not establish independent crash-test performance, long-term durability, standardized real-world range, universal road legality, or broad owner satisfaction.

GearJunkie’s January 2026 first-ride report is useful for describing an early riding impression, but it is not a substitute for a long-term ownership review or controlled testing. Buyers who need dependable daily transportation should treat the Antic as a specialized recreational machine until stronger independent evidence is available.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast does the Antic bike go?

The Antic’s official product page advertises a 35 mph top speed. Actual speed can vary with rider, battery, surface, conditions, and settings, and 35 mph is a manufacturer claim rather than an independent test result.

Does the Antic really balance wheelies?

Yes, the Antic’s Onewheel Mode uses gyroscope and accelerometer sensors to help hold a wheelie and prevent loopouts. The mode assists the rider but does not make the bike autonomous or eliminate the need for practice and balance.

Is the Antic street legal?

The Antic is not universally street legal or automatically an e-bike across the United States. Sidewalk, street, bicycle-lane, trail, registration, equipment, and licensing rules depend on the location and the vehicle classification used by local law.

Is the Antic worth $2,100?

The official Antic page lists a $2,100 starting price, while Future Motion’s November 19, 2025 launch announcement listed the Base at $2,100, Long Range at $2,700, and Long Range+ at $2,900. Verify current pricing and included equipment before buying.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

The Antic is most compelling as a recreational electric mini bike for riders who specifically want Onewheel-assisted wheelies, a retro minibike shape, and app-adjustable behavior. Its 35 mph advertised speed, uncertain local legal classification, safety demands, and configuration-dependent range make it a poor automatic choice for commuting or casual sidewalk use. Budget at least the official $2,100 starting price, verify the exact model and current specifications, confirm local laws, and buy appropriate protective gear before riding.
