That rating comes with an important qualification, though: the Pilot earns an Acceptable rating in IIHS’s updated moderate-overlap front test, rather than Good across every listed crashworthiness test.
What the 2025 Pilot’s current IIHS rating says
IIHS’s current rating page gives the 2025 Pilot Good ratings for the small-overlap front crash test, updated side crash test, headlights, and standard pedestrian front crash prevention. Its updated moderate-overlap front rating is Acceptable. The page identifies the vehicle as a Top Safety Pick, not Top Safety Pick+ (IIHS 2025 Honda Pilot ratings).
The moderate-overlap result matters because that updated test evaluates rear-seat passenger protection. IIHS says Honda made rear seat-belt changes for the 2025 model year to improve second-row protection. Those changes are relevant, but they do not change the current test result: the rating remains Acceptable.
Safety equipment also varies by feature. IIHS lists lane-departure warning and prevention as standard, while blind-spot detection and rear automatic braking are among the optional features. Check the specific vehicle’s equipment rather than assuming every Pilot has the same driver-assistance systems.

Why you may have seen a Top Safety Pick+ rating
IIHS’s July 2024 announcement said the 2025 Pilot qualified for Top Safety Pick+ under the award requirements announced for that cycle. The current IIHS rating page now lists the model as Top Safety Pick. These labels refer to different points in IIHS’s award process; for the present designation and individual test results, use the current rating page rather than repeating the older award label.
Compare the 2025 Pilot by drivetrain and trim
Honda’s September 4, 2024 U.S. launch release published the following MSRPs, including the $1,395 destination charge. These are historical launch prices, not current dealer or transaction prices; taxes, license, registration, options, and dealer pricing may change the amount a buyer pays. Honda said the figures exclude taxes, license, registration, and options.

These are Honda’s U.S. launch figures from 2024, not live 2026 pricing. The EPA estimates are for comparing configurations; actual mileage varies with driving, maintenance, conditions, and other factors (Honda’s 2025 Pilot pricing and EPA ratings release).
Check towing needs against the exact vehicle
Honda’s 2025 model specifications state that AWD Pilot trims can tow up to 5,000 pounds (Honda Pilot specifications). “Up to” is the key qualification: towing suitability depends on the exact vehicle, payload, trailer, and operating conditions. Confirm the vehicle’s configuration and follow its owner’s manual before towing; do not assume every trim or setup has the same capacity.

A model-year rating or article cannot establish whether an individual Pilot has an open recall or has received a required repair. Before buying, check the specific vehicle identification number with Honda or NHTSA and confirm that any applicable repair is complete. The Pilot’s IIHS recognition is a meaningful reason to consider it, especially if its size, trim, and equipment fit your needs. It is not a substitute for comparing the exact version you would buy: drivetrain affects price, fuel-economy estimates, and towing capability, while some safety features are optional. Review the current IIHS results, verify the vehicle’s equipment and recall status, and compare the asking price with current local listings before deciding.
