For 2026-model-year heavy-duty pickups, Ford’s 6.7L High-Output Power Stroke V8 has the highest published torque rating in this comparison: 1,200 lb-ft at 1,600 rpm. Chevrolet has announced a 1,230-lb-ft 8.3L Duramax for the 2027 Silverado HD, but its page describes the truck as new and upcoming, so that figure should not be treated as proof the truck is already on sale. Ford’s 2027 specifications and Chevrolet’s announced 2027 specifications put the distinction in clear terms: Ford leads among the 2026-model-year trucks listed here; Chevrolet has announced the higher number for 2027.
Published torque ratings by model year
These are manufacturer-published specifications, not results from a side-by-side test. The model year and engine version matter: an announced future-model specification is not the same as an on-sale truck.

What the torque numbers say—and what they do not
Ford’s 2026 High-Output Power Stroke
At 1,200 lb-ft, Ford’s 6.7L High-Output Power Stroke is the top published figure among the 2026-model-year pickups in this comparison. Ford specifies that peak at 1,600 rpm, and lists 500 hp at 2,600 rpm. The rpm figures matter because they identify where the manufacturer says the peaks occur; they do not, by themselves, describe how a truck will feel or perform across every driving condition. Ram’s 2026 High-Output Cummins
The 2026 Ram Heavy Duty pickup’s 6.7L High-Output Cummins is rated at 1,075 lb-ft and 430 hp. Cummins publishes different output figures for pickup and chassis-cab applications, so use the pickup rating when comparing Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks rather than carrying over a chassis-cab figure. Chevrolet’s 2026 Duramax and announced 2027 engine
The 2026 Silverado HD’s 6.6L Duramax is listed at 975 lb-ft and 470 hp. Chevrolet’s announced 2027 Silverado HD specification raises the published figures to 1,230 lb-ft and 555 hp for an 8.3L Duramax. Torque is not the same as towing capacity
Peak engine torque is only one specification to consider when choosing a truck for a trailer. Maximum towing figures are tied to particular truck configurations and equipment, not automatically to every cab, trim, axle, or hitch setup.

- Ford’s 2027 Super Duty towing guide lists a maximum available 40,000 lb with the specified 40K Gooseneck Tow Package. That maximum is configuration-specific. Ford’s 2027 towing guide.
- Chevrolet lists up to 38,000 lb towing for the announced 2027 Silverado HD. This is a separate vehicle towing rating, not a consequence that can be inferred from the engine’s torque figure alone. Chevrolet’s 2027 specifications.
Before comparing trucks for a specific trailer, check the exact model, cab, axle, package, payload, hitch type, and applicable trailer limits in the manufacturer’s configuration-specific information.

- For the highest published figure among 2026 models here: compare Ford’s 1,200 lb-ft High-Output Power Stroke with Ram’s 1,075 lb-ft High-Output Cummins and Chevrolet’s 975 lb-ft 6.6L Duramax.
- For announced 2027 specifications: Chevrolet lists 1,230 lb-ft for the upcoming Silverado HD’s 8.3L Duramax; Ford lists 1,200 lb-ft for the Super Duty’s High-Output Power Stroke.
- For a particular job: compare the truck’s actual towing and payload ratings for its configuration rather than selecting by engine torque alone.
- For Ram application accuracy: make sure the specification is for a pickup, not a chassis cab.
GMC’s 2027 Sierra HD page also describes an available 8.3L Duramax, but it does not state an engine torque figure. Chevrolet’s published 1,230-lb-ft figure should not be attributed to the Sierra without a source that explicitly does so. GMC’s 2027 Sierra HD page.
