Android Auto 13.3 beta was a real November 2024 test build, but its headline features were not confirmed as finished, universally available functions. APK analysis found HD Radio branding and program-type labels, an autofill resource, and references to NACS, Type 6, and LECCS charging standards. Those discoveries suggest development work—not proof that every user could tune HD Radio, automatically log in to apps, or use new charging hardware through Android Auto.
Because Android Auto 13.3 is now an older release, most users should use Google’s current Play Store version or join the official Android Auto beta program rather than install an archived APK.
What Android Auto 13.3 beta actually was
The build was reported on November 13, 2024, under Android Auto’s package name, com.google.android.projection.gearhead. The report described a file named com_google_android_projection_gearhead_13_3_144604_release_daily.apk, approximately 58 MB in size.
A beta is a pre-release build distributed for testing. It is different from a stable Google Play release, and both differ from an APK extracted from or mirrored from a test channel. An APK can contain resources and code for features that are disabled, incomplete, region-limited, dependent on a server, or intended for a future release.

The original coverage also mixed references to Android Auto 13.3 beta with a download section mentioning a 13.2 stable APK. That mismatch is important: do not trust a download button or filename without checking the package name, version, architecture, signature, and source.
HD Radio: evidence of groundwork, not a confirmed tuner
The APK reportedly contained an hd_radio_logo drawable and numerous radio program-type strings, including:
- Adult hits and top 40
- Classic rock, classical, country, jazz and hip hop
- Drama, news, sports and talk
- Travel and weather
These labels could support radio metadata, categories, or a related interface. They do not prove that Android Auto 13.3 exposed a finished HD Radio screen, station directory, or tuning function to users.
Android Auto also cannot create an HD Radio tuner in a vehicle that does not have compatible radio hardware. Its media interface works with compatible apps and vehicle systems; it is not interchangeable with the car’s native radio receiver. Google’s media guidance says compatible apps generally need to be installed and signed in on the phone before they are used in the car.

Safest conclusion: Android Auto 13.3 appears to have included HD Radio branding and radio-metadata groundwork, but the evidence does not establish a universally available HD Radio feature.
What “Autofill logins” meant
The APK reportedly added a string named autofill. That is consistent with work involving Android’s Autofill framework, which can allow a selected Autofill service—such as a password manager—to fill supported credential or personal-information fields.
It does not demonstrate that Android Auto 13.3 could automatically sign users into Spotify or every other media app. Autofill depends on the Android version, the selected Autofill service, the app being filled, security policies, and whether the relevant fields are exposed in a compatible way. It is not password sharing and does not bypass an app’s authentication requirements.
The original report suggested possible uses such as filling app credentials or saved information like a name or address. Those were possibilities inferred from the resource discovery, not confirmed universal capabilities. Google’s media instructions continued to tell users to sign in to apps on the phone, which is why “Autofill groundwork” is more accurate than “automatic logins are supported.”

EV charging standards found in the build
The report associated Android Auto 13.3 with references to three charging standards:
- NACS: North American Charging Standard, associated with some Tesla and non-Tesla electric vehicles.
- Type 6: a reference the report connected with light electric vehicles such as scooters.
- LECCS: described in the report as the Light Electric Combined Charging System.
These references may relate to EV data or charging information displayed by a compatible vehicle system or app. They do not mean that an Android phone, car, or charging station physically supports any of those connectors. Software recognition of a standard is not the same as adding charging hardware.

How to get Android Auto beta safely
The preferred method is Google’s official beta channel:
- Open Google’s Android Auto beta-testing page.
- Choose Become a tester.
- Open Google Play and update Android Auto.
- Test the beta only while parked or when it is safe to do so.
- Leave the beta through the same testing page if it causes problems.
Google warns that beta builds may be less stable and that only one Android Auto version can be installed on a phone at a time. If the beta is unavailable, Google Play may provide the regular version instead.

For normal use, install or update Android Auto through its official Google Play listing. Android Auto is integrated into supported Android phones and may not appear as a conventional standalone app icon.

Manual installation is mainly of historical interest now. An archived 2024 build may conflict with newer Android versions, Google Play services, vehicle firmware, or companion apps. It also will not guarantee access to the discovered features.
If you nevertheless examine or install an APK, use only a trustworthy and verifiable source. Check:
- Package name:
com.google.android.projection.gearhead - Exact version name and version code
- CPU architecture and Android compatibility
- Google signing information, where available
- File hash or integrity information from a reliable source
- Whether the download is actually beta 13.3 rather than the 13.2 stable file mentioned elsewhere on the original page
Do not treat a third-party APK mirror as equivalent to Google’s signed Play distribution, and do not install it on a work-managed phone or a device with strict security requirements unless you understand the risks.

Compatibility requirements
According to Google’s current requirements, wired Android Auto generally requires an Android 9.0-or-newer phone with an active data plan, a compatible car or aftermarket receiver, and a high-quality USB cable. Wireless projection requires a compatible phone with an active data plan and 5 GHz Wi-Fi support; Google says wireless Android Auto is compatible with phones running Android 11 or newer. The car or receiver must support Android Auto, Android Go devices are excluded, and availability varies by country.
A compatible phone alone is not enough. Vehicle firmware, receiver firmware, USB quality, regional availability, language, and individual app support can all affect the result.
If Android Auto stops connecting
- Leave the beta and return to the stable channel through Google’s testing program.
- Update Android Auto and Google Play services.
- Restart the phone and the vehicle’s infotainment system.
- For wired use, try a short, known-good, high-quality USB cable.
- Confirm Android Auto is enabled in the vehicle settings.
- Check for vehicle or aftermarket-receiver firmware updates.
- Forget the previously connected car and pair it again if necessary.
These steps follow Google’s Android Auto troubleshooting guidance. For a serious reproducible bug, Google also provides an official bug-report workflow involving developer options, Android Auto developer settings, debug logging, and a report captured soon after the problem occurs.
Verdict
Android Auto 13.3 was an interesting November 2024 transition build, and its APK contained credible clues about radio metadata, Autofill, and EV charging-standard support. But strings and resource names are not release notes. They cannot prove that HD Radio tuning or automatic app logins were finished, enabled, or compatible with every vehicle.
