The Analog Motion AMX’s “wants to go fast” character is about how assertively its rear-hub motor delivers assistance—not an unusually high or unlimited top speed. Engadget’s 2020 review of the AMX Limited Edition says the assist reached its regional cutoff quickly, while the single-speed gearing could leave the rider spinning with little resistance. The reported assistance limits were 15.5 mph (25 km/h) in Europe and 20 mph (32 km/h) in the US; those are motor-assist cutoffs, not limits on how fast a rider can pedal.
What does “wants to go fast” mean on the AMX?
It describes the reviewed bike’s forceful motor response and the way it reaches the assist limit, rather than a high unrestricted maximum speed. Engadget’s November 2020 review covers the AMX Limited Edition (LE) and reports assistance cutoffs of 25 km/h (15.5 mph) in Europe and 32 km/h (20 mph) in the US. These figures describe where motor assistance stops; they do not prevent a rider from pedaling faster.
The same review says the single gear could feel too low at the top assist level: the motor pulled ahead while the rider’s legs spun without much resistance. That is one reviewer’s ride impression of the AMX LE, not a measured cadence result or a guarantee that every AMX variant feels the same. Engadget’s reviewer, Nick Summers, wrote: “I was happier once I started using the power levels like traditional bicycle gears.” In practice, varying the assist level can help a single-speed rider manage effort, but it does not add another gear.
Which AMX version are you looking at?
AMX refers to a family of city-oriented, single-speed electric bikes. The maker’s current archive describes the variants as follows; these are historical product descriptions, not confirmation that any model is still being manufactured.

The 2019 Engadget preview describes an earlier campaign-period AMX with a 250W Aikema-developed rear-hub motor, a single-speed drivetrain and a removable battery. It also refers to a prototype, so its description should not be treated as a complete specification for every later model. Engadget’s 2020 LE review says the motor tuning had been adjusted with firmware since that preview.
How far can an AMX travel on a charge?
Analog Motion’s archive and Engadget’s product coverage cite an assisted-range claim of about 44 km (27 miles). Treat that as a historical estimate, not a guaranteed distance or a present-day test result. Engadget’s 2019 preview says range varies with rider effort and hills. On an older used bike, battery age, route and riding conditions also matter; the available sources do not establish how far a particular surviving battery will travel.

The battery is removable and shaped like a water bottle, a practical feature for taking it off the bike. But the historical articles do not establish current stock of compatible replacement batteries or chargers. Before buying, ask to see the exact battery and charger, check that the battery charges and holds charge, and confirm replacement compatibility and availability rather than assuming either.
Can you still get support, parts or a new AMX?
Do not treat the AMX as a currently supported new-bike purchase. Analog Motion Ltd (company no. 11084148) entered Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation in 2023, and the founders say the business closed and ceased operations that year. The site now describes itself as an independent, unofficial tribute archive, not an affiliated business or trading continuation. It preserves historical manuals and repair information, but disclaims guarantees about their accuracy, completeness, safety and repair outcomes. Its existence is not evidence of current parts inventory, warranty service or a successor support channel.

For a used-bike purchase, inspect the specific bike and verify its condition rather than relying on a model description or archived manual alone:
- Check the frame, wheels, tyres and brakes, including whether the particular version has the brake equipment described for it.
- Test the motor and controls at each assist level, and check for electrical faults or intermittent operation.
- Confirm that the battery and charger are present, charge correctly and are suitable for that exact bike.
- Ask the seller what service or repair history is available, and establish whether local repairers can work on the bike.
- Do not assume a manufacturer warranty, replacement parts or maker support will be available.
Engadget’s 2020 review also notes that the AMX lacked a theft deterrent and recommends a separate lock when leaving it outside. If you use a bicycle U-lock, check that its dimensions work with the AMX frame and the fixed object you plan to secure; no particular lock has been verified as a fit for this bike.
