What changed when Hertz joined Amazon Autos?
Hertz’s August 20, 2025 announcement made it Amazon Autos’ first fleet dealer. Hertz said shoppers could browse thousands of its pre-owned vehicles, buy online and pick up at Hertz Car Sales locations. The launch named Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Seattle as its initial markets, with planned expansion to 45 Hertz Car Sales locations. These are company-reported launch details, not a guarantee that every location or vehicle is listed on Amazon Autos today. Hertz’s launch announcement

The change built on Amazon’s December 2024 introduction of used and certified pre-owned (CPO) cars on Amazon Autos, initially through Hyundai dealers. Amazon’s current dealer FAQ describes a wider marketplace: franchise dealers can list used, non-CPO vehicles of any brand, while its named participating makes for new, CPO and used inventory include Hyundai, Mazda, Kia and Subaru, as well as Ford Blue Advantage certified inventory. Amazon says participation is expanding metro by metro. Amazon Autos dealer FAQ Amazon’s December 2024 announcement

Yes, where a Hertz vehicle is listed and available. Amazon Autos shows listings based on the shopper’s ZIP code, and its how-it-works page says vehicles are shown within 75 miles. A listing does not confirm that the car remains available: inventory and participating markets can change. Before committing, check the specific car’s current status, selling location, fees and pickup arrangements in its live listing. Amazon Autos dealer FAQ Amazon Autos: How it works

Hertz later announced a separate online-buying service through HertzCarSales.com and described it as available across its U.S. locations. That statement concerns Hertz’s own website; it does not mean every Hertz location or vehicle is available through Amazon Autos. Hertz’s September 2025 online-buying announcement
How buying through Amazon Autos works
Amazon Autos is a dealer marketplace, not the vehicle seller. The shopper uses Amazon’s digital storefront and purchase workflow, but the participating dealer sets the vehicle price, completes the sale and handles pickup or delivery.

- Find a listing: Enter your ZIP code and review the vehicles shown for your area. Listings are presented within 75 miles according to Amazon’s how-it-works page.
- Review the deal: Check the displayed price, fees, taxes and registration details, along with vehicle history and condition information available for that car. Confirm the selling dealer and pickup location.
- Choose a purchase type and arrange payment: Amazon Autos supports an online purchase workflow that includes financing and a down payment. Financing is subject to lender participation and approval; examine the lender’s offer and total terms rather than relying on a displayed payment alone.
- Schedule pickup: Amazon says pickup is generally scheduled within one to three days after a deposit. Confirm the timing and arrangements for the particular listing with the dealer.

Are Hertz cars on Amazon certified?
Not necessarily. Hertz’s launch announcement described a Hertz Certified program, but that does not make every used vehicle on Amazon Autos a Hertz Certified vehicle. Look for the certification label on the individual listing and read the coverage terms attached to that car.

For qualifying Hertz Certified vehicles, Hertz says its program includes a 115-point inspection, a 12-month/12,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, 24-hour roadside assistance and a 7-day/250-mile buy-back guarantee; terms apply. These are Hertz’s stated program terms, not an independent assessment of vehicle condition and not coverage to assume for an uncertified listing. Hertz’s launch announcement
What protections does Amazon Autos describe?
Amazon’s current dealer FAQ says used and CPO vehicles sold through Amazon Autos have a 3-day/300-mile return policy, and that dealers must offer a complimentary qualifying limited warranty with used vehicles. Its how-it-works page describes a 30-day/1,000-mile warranty administered through Safe-Guard. The exact policy and warranty applicable to a car can depend on vehicle type and the terms presented for that purchase, so read the listing and governing terms rather than assuming one policy covers every case. Amazon’s December 2024 announcement described the initial used/CPO offering with a 3-day/300-mile return policy and a minimum 30-day/1,000-mile limited warranty. That launch description is historical; use the terms shown for the current vehicle and transaction. Amazon’s December 2024 announcement
What to compare before choosing a listing
- Full transaction cost: Compare the vehicle price with dealer fees, taxes and registration shown before purchase.
- History and condition: Read the history report and condition information available for that specific car; do not infer condition from the seller’s fleet status.
- Certification and coverage: Confirm whether the car is Hertz Certified, and identify the exact inspection, warranty, roadside-assistance and buy-back terms that apply.
- Return and warranty terms: Check the Amazon Autos policy and limited warranty attached to the vehicle and sale.
- Financing: Compare the lender, approval conditions and total payment terms for the offer you receive.
- Pickup logistics: Check the distance to the selling location, pickup timing and current vehicle availability.
Hertz and Amazon use promotional descriptions such as “high-quality” and “well-maintained,” but their announcements do not establish that ex-rental cars as a category are better, worse, cheaper or safer than comparable vehicles elsewhere. The decision needs listing-level evidence, not a general assumption about rental history.
