What Alfa Romeo has confirmed
In a February 23, 2026 announcement, Alfa Romeo said production of the Giulia and Stelvio would continue through 2027, explicitly including their 280-hp petrol versions and Quadrifoglio models. In a statement after Stellantis Investor Day on May 21, the brand again confirmed production through 2027, including Quadrifoglio versions. Alfa Romeo’s February announcement and May statement establish a production extension, not a guarantee that every trim will be offered in every market for the full period.
What this means for buyers
Petrol Giulia and Stelvio
The February announcement specifically says the 280-hp petrol versions will be available through 2027. Alfa Romeo has not specified in these statements that all versions, configurations, or market allocations will remain unchanged until then. Buyers should confirm local availability and ordering details with an authorized dealer.
Quadrifoglio models
Alfa Romeo said orders for Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio would reopen in Europe in March 2026. That date is specifically for European orders; the announcement does not establish the same reopening date or availability in other countries. The company’s German-market first-half 2026 update said Quadrifoglio versions represented around 7% of Giulia and Stelvio purchases in Germany, not worldwide. Alfa Romeo Germany’s update gives that regional figure.

Has Alfa Romeo cancelled its electric-car plans?
No cancellation is established in the company statements. Alfa Romeo says it is studying ways to maintain a presence in the D-segment with new interpretations of Giulia and Stelvio, using flexible, multi-energy platforms and progressively introducing powertrain options that include hybrid and electric motors. The company has not specified a successor’s arrival date or final powertrain mix. Its May statement says more information will follow.
That leaves a meaningful distinction: the current cars’ production is confirmed through 2027, while their replacements and the timing of any electric versions remain unspecified. The extension alone does not prove that an electric Giulia or Stelvio has been cancelled, nor that a particular successor will arrive in 2027.

How the decision fits Stellantis’ wider strategy
Stellantis’ May 2026 FaSTLAne 2030 plan covers launches across several powertrain types through 2030: battery-electric, plug-in hybrid or range-extended electric, hybrid, and ICE or mild-hybrid. It lists more than 60 new vehicle launches and 50 significant refreshes across the group, with totals of 29 battery-electric, 15 plug-in hybrid or range-extended electric, 24 hybrid, and 39 ICE or mild-hybrid launches. These are Stellantis-wide figures, not an Alfa Romeo launch schedule. The plan identifies Alfa Romeo among five regional brands expected to benefit from shared global assets. Stellantis’ plan does not assign those group totals to specific Alfa Romeo models.
Stellantis’ February 2026 business reset said its strategy and costs were being aligned with customers’ real-world preferences, and that demand should govern the pace of the transition. CEO Antonio Filosa attributed some of the company’s costs to overestimating that pace. That is Stellantis’ explanation for its reset, not independent market research. Alfa Romeo framed the Giulia and Stelvio extension more specifically as a balance between future transition, customer expectations, and the brand’s heritage. Stellantis’ reset announcement and Alfa Romeo’s statement describe the companies’ respective rationales.

What is still unknown
- When replacement Giulia or Stelvio models will be announced or reach customers.
- Which powertrains those successors will offer, and whether each model will have a fully electric version.
- Whether the same trims and order windows will apply in every market through 2027.
For now, the firm date is the production extension for the current cars through 2027. Future model timing and specifications have not been set out in the cited announcements.
