Alef’s Model A is not yet in broad customer production. The company reported more than 3,200 preorders in September 2024, then said in December 2025 that it had begun hand-assembling a small number of early Model A Ultralight vehicles for controlled real-world testing. Those milestones do not establish that the preorder queue is receiving cars, that the aircraft is certified for ordinary commercial use, or that its advertised 110-mile flight range has been demonstrated independently.
What has Alef actually announced?
The figures describe different stages, not a single mass-production launch. In September 2024, Alef said it had more than 3,200 preorders. In December 2025, the company reported 3,500 preorders and said early Model A Ultralight manufacturing had begun. Both counts are company-reported; neither is a tally of completed vehicle sales or deliveries.
| Milestone | What Alef or the cited authority reported | What it does not establish |

Does Alef’s 110-mile range claim mean it can fly that far?
The 110-mile figure should be treated as an announced or claimed specification, not a verified result. The primary materials cited here do not provide an independent range test or establish that an early Model A has flown 110 miles. A stated range is not the same as demonstrated performance in defined operating conditions.
When will Alef deliver the flying car to preorder customers?
Alef’s December 2025 announcement described a few early customers receiving vehicles for controlled real-world testing. It presented the hand-built units as part of testing and process optimization before a later move toward automated mass production. It did not announce general customer availability or say that the wider preorder queue was being fulfilled.

The preorder terms also make clear that a preorder is not a vehicle sale or a promise of delivery. It does not secure a price, production slot, delivery date, or configuration. Deposits are refundable until a final purchase agreement is signed. The terms say development may be incomplete and that announced features, including vertical takeoff, are not guaranteed and may change. Read the Alef Model A preorder agreement for the contract language.
Does starting production mean the car is certified to fly or drive?
No. Manufacturing progress and regulatory approval are separate questions. Alef’s September 2024 agreement with the PUCARA Aero and MYC joint venture concerned a subset of aviation-grade parts intended to be suitable for certification by the FAA, EASA, and other authorities. The announcement did not say the complete vehicle was certified, nor does a parts-manufacturing agreement establish that certified aircraft resulted.

For broader context, GAO reported that as of March 2026 the FAA had not issued a type certification for a manned electric aircraft; the agency was assessing electric-aircraft and engine designs case by case while considering longer-term regulatory changes. GAO also said the timing of commercial operation was unclear. A special airworthiness certificate for limited testing, if applicable to a particular aircraft, is not the same as type certification or authority for routine commercial service. This industry-wide status does not by itself determine the certificate held by any particular Alef vehicle.
The road-use and airworthiness questions are distinct. The cited sources do not establish the complete current approval status for both uses, so a production announcement should not be read as proof that the Model A is cleared for ordinary road driving as well as flight.

Is the infrastructure ready for Alef?
GAO reported that 47 U.S. airports had identified electric-aircraft charging stations in their plans, based on FAA information from December 2025. This is an industry-wide planning figure, and most listed airports were associated with BETA Technologies’ charging network; it does not show that those stations support Alef’s Model A.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s September 2025 eVTOL Integration Pilot Program is also not an Alef approval. DOT said the program would include at least five public-private pilot projects and run for three years after the first project becomes operational. Its potential use cases include short-range air taxis, longer-range fixed-wing flights, cargo, and logistics. The announcement does not say Alef was selected or authorize ordinary Model A flights.
