The Alaskan HS 640 is a fixed-roof, hard-sided pickup camper built around insulated composite panels and a hybrid aluminum/PVC frame. Alaskan says it is designed to fit many standard 6.5-foot pickup beds, but that is not a fitment or payload guarantee for a particular truck. Before ordering, confirm the selected camper’s build-specific weight, your truck’s payload and center-of-gravity limits, and the current configuration and price with Alaskan or an authorized dealer.
What is the Alaskan HS 640?
The HS 640 is a hard-sided, fixed-roof pickup camper. Alaskan describes it as a ground-up platform intended to reduce weight and broaden truck compatibility compared with its other camper designs. Its published dimensions are 6.4 feet long and 86.5 inches high. Those dimensions alone do not establish whether it will fit a particular truck bed or clear the cab.
Alaskan says the HS 640 is designed for many standard 6.5-foot beds on Toyota, Ford, Ram and Chevrolet pickups. The company’s broader fit guidance also stresses matching bed length, payload and center of gravity. Treat the cross-brand statement as intended compatibility, not a model-year-by-model-year fit list. Alaskan’s April 17, 2026 launch article and its truck-fit guidance do not identify every compatible trim and configuration.
How is the HS 640 constructed?
Alaskan describes the wall system as 1.5-inch structural insulated panels with high-density polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam and fiberglass skins. The company claims R-11 thermal performance for the camper shell. It describes the frame as an aluminum/PVC hybrid thermal break intended to reduce thermal bridging and condensation risk. These are manufacturer specifications and claims; the available material does not establish independent test results.

- Fitment: The truck bed soft topper fits the 2019-2026 Ram 1500 with 5.5ft bed (w/o RamBox), 2019-2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with 5.8ft Bed, 2019-2026 GMC Sierra 1500 with 5.8ft Bed. Constructed with steel bases, aluminum alloy support poles, water-resistant and tear-resistant Oxford fabric, and high-clarity PVC films
- Flexible & Foldable: The roll-up rear and side windows provide excellent ventilation when passengers or pets are in the truck bed. When not in use, the ram 1500 bed cap folds down easily for compact storage, which makes it more versatile than hardcovers
- Wind & Vibration Resistant Stable Hook design: Stable front window and dual tail buckle adopt upgraded shock-absorbing structure. Firmly fastened on rough roads, it efficiently blocks dust and moisture to fully protect stored cargo
- Superior Protection & Versatility: Our soft camper shell provides security for your cargo and can hide your items to prevent casual theft. It is suitable for camping, work, and sports events, from work to play, we've got you covered
- Anti-Pooling Design: Stay dry with our advanced anti-pooling design. A strategically placed top support pole on the roof prevents water accumulation during rainfall
Alaskan says its 1.5-inch foam-core fiberglass wall system creates a “rigid, rot-proof wall with R-11 thermal performance in the camper shell.”
The company’s launch material also calls the camper’s material composition 99% non-organic, but does not provide a test protocol or independent verification for that figure.

What is the HS 640’s actual dry weight?
Alaskan’s published figures conflict. Its April 17, 2026 launch article describes an approximate starting dry weight of 1,200 pounds. The product page lists 1,500 pounds in its feature specifications, while the same page’s builder shows 1,200 pounds. The page does not explain the difference or specify which equipment configuration accounts for it. Check the current product page, but ask Alaskan or the selling dealer for the selected unit’s build sheet and actual as-built weight rather than treating either figure as definitive.
Truck Camper Magazine reported a 1,976-pound loaded weight for a Layout 2 example in 2026. The available report excerpt does not make clear which options or fluids were included or how the camper was weighed, so that figure is not a universal travel-ready weight. See the production-model report.

Will an Alaskan HS 640 fit my truck, and can a half-ton carry it?
There is not enough published information to determine a safe match for an unspecified truck. “Fits many 6.5-foot beds” refers to intended physical compatibility; it does not prove that a particular truck can safely carry the camper when loaded. Half-ton and midsize pickup labels are not substitutes for checking the specific vehicle’s ratings and configuration.
Before purchase, confirm each of these with the truck manufacturer and Alaskan or the dealer:

- EXACT FIT FOR YOUR TRUCK: Engineered with 3D vehicle scanning to match your Toyota Tundra 2022-2026 5.5FT bed. Clamp-on design bolts to factory mounting points with no drilling and no modification, keeping your truck intact
- MANGANESE STEEL BUILD: Double-layer thickened frame with 3mm manganese steel brackets supports 1100 lbs static and 600 lbs dynamic load. A solid base for rooftop tents, overland gear, and heavy contractor tools
- MULTIFUNCTIONAL PANELS THAT VENTILATE AND PROTECT: Multifunctional panels open and close for ventilation on hot days or sealed shut for full weather protection. Manganese steel throughout, lockable doors, and weather-resistant seals give you flexibility no fixed-window cap can match
- BUILT FOR EASY INSTALL: Ships ready to clamp on with standard hand tools. Plan for at least 4 people to lift the shell (about 330 to 450 lbs) and 60 minutes to set. Tighten the J-hooks fully, then re-check torque after the first 50 miles to prevent paint rub from shell movement
- INTEGRATED LIGHTING VISIBILITY: An interior LED roof light illuminates the entire bed for night loading or camp setup. An integrated third brake light keeps your truck visible and street legal. Message us with your VIN or bed length and we will confirm fit before you order
- Payload: Check the payload rating for your specific truck as equipped, not a generic rating for its model line.
- Camper weight: Get the selected build’s dry weight and a realistic travel-ready weight, including installed options, water, batteries, passengers and cargo.
- Physical fit: Verify bed dimensions, tailgate clearance and whether the tailgate can close on your exact truck.
- Center of gravity: Confirm that the camper’s center-of-gravity requirements match the truck’s allowable range.
- Securement: Ask Alaskan or the dealer to confirm the appropriate tie-down and attachment setup for your truck. A general listing of tie-down options does not verify a particular product’s fitment.
Alaskan lists Torklift tie-downs among options in its general camper builder, but that listing does not establish HS 640 compatibility with a specific pickup. Have fitment confirmed before buying hardware.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How much water does the HS 640 hold?
Alaskan’s published material gives two fresh-water capacities: 15 gallons in the launch article and configuration section, and 21 gallons in the product page’s feature specifications. Because these conflict, confirm the tank capacity for the exact layout and build you are considering rather than assuming either number applies to every HS 640.

What layouts, equipment and prices are available?
Alaskan’s April 17, 2026 launch article lists four layouts and prices. The product page’s live builder shows a $47,950 price and separate layout values, including $47,495 and $48,995; those values do not line up cleanly with the launch article’s Layout 1 price. Treat the figures below as page- and date-specific listings, not a guaranteed current quote. Request a current written price for the chosen layout and options.
| Layout | Description in Alaskan’s April 17, 2026 launch article | Listed price in that article |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Base; front or side sleeper | $44,995 |
| 2 | Side sleeper | $47,495 |
| 3 | Front sleeper | $47,495 |
| 4 | Premium | $48,995 |
Alaskan’s launch article provides those dated layout prices; the product page displays different builder pricing.
The product page lists solar, additional batteries, diesel heat, air conditioning, a refrigerator, toilet, shower, water heater and induction cooktop as configurable or optional equipment. It also lists standard equipment, including a roof fan, but what is included depends on the chosen layout and build. Confirm the actual equipment list on the quote rather than assuming every item shown is standard.
What should you verify before ordering?
- Current price, selected layout and a written list of included and optional equipment.
- Build-specific dry weight and travel-ready weight, with the assumptions behind each figure.
- Fresh-water capacity for that configuration.
- Fit, tailgate clearance, payload and center-of-gravity compatibility for the exact truck.
- Securement requirements and dealer support for your location.
Alaskan directs buyers to its dealer network. The published product information and secondary reporting do not provide a controlled independent comparison or independent field test of the HS 640, so construction and performance claims should be understood as manufacturer statements rather than comparative test findings.
