Honda’s 2024 specifications confirm automatic DCT versions of the Africa Twin and Rebel 1100; they establish displacement and gearing, not a comparable horsepower ranking. Here’s what DCT means, which models are documented, and how to read the figures without mistaking engine size for power.
What “automatic” means on a motorcycle
Honda’s Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) is a geared transmission that automates clutch operation and gear changes. It is not the same as a continuously variable scooter transmission: DCT motorcycles retain gears, and Honda says applicable models allow the rider to select gears manually. Honda introduced motorcycle DCT in 2010. Its description of DCT technology explains the system and its development.
Honda describes DCT as freeing riders from clutch and shift operations while preserving direct drive power. That is the manufacturer’s characterization, not an independent performance finding. DCT’s extra clutch and shifting hardware also brings additional weight and mechanical complexity. Honda points to touring and adventure touring as settings where reducing clutch and shift workload can be useful; its motorcycle transmission comparison discusses those trade-offs.
What the 2024 specifications establish
The two 2024 U.S.-market model families with specific details in the available manufacturer material are the Africa Twin and Rebel 1100. Their displacement figures describe engine size, not horsepower, so they cannot establish which bike is more powerful.

Other Honda DCT models—and the market distinction
Honda’s broader DCT family shows that the system is used across several riding categories. The lineup depends on market and model year: a current lineup page is evidence that a model is listed now, not proof it was available as a 2024 purchase in every country.

- Gold Wing: a touring family with DCT. Honda explains that the transmission includes a low-speed reverse function in its transmission comparison. Honda’s current product page lists a seven-speed DCT, but that current specification should not be treated as a 2024 figure.
- NT1100: a sport-touring model included in Honda’s current U.S. DCT family listing.
- NC750X: an all-rounder included in Honda’s current U.S. DCT family listing.
- Forza 750: Honda UK lists it with DCT as a scooter, not a conventional motorcycle.
- X-ADV: Honda UK lists it with DCT and describes it as a crossover combining scooter utility and adventure-motorcycle performance.
Honda’s U.S. DCT model listing and UK DCT information illustrate the geographic and body-style differences. Neither listing alone establishes each model’s 2024 availability or specifications.

A sound power ranking needs manufacturer-rated horsepower for each model, tied to the same model year and a specified market. The available 2024 specifications do not provide a consistent set of those figures for ten automatic motorcycles. Engine displacement cannot fill that gap: a larger capacity does not, by itself, prove greater rated horsepower. Nor should two trims of one model family be counted as separate motorcycles merely to reach ten.

A defensible comparison would also distinguish geared DCT motorcycles from scooters and other automated-shift systems, and state whether manual gear selection is available. Without those rules and comparable 2024 output figures, a numbered top ten would imply more certainty than the specifications justify.

How to check a DCT motorcycle before buying
- Confirm the exact model year and market. Check the manufacturer’s local product page or specification sheet; lineups differ between the U.S. and UK, and current pages may describe later specifications.
- Verify the transmission on the exact trim. Look for “DCT” or the manufacturer’s explicit automatic-transmission designation. Do not assume every trim in a model family is automatic.
- Compare rated horsepower, not displacement. Use the manufacturer’s stated output for the same model year and market, and note the unit and rating conditions where given.
- Consider the use case and added hardware. Touring or adventure riding may make reduced clutch workload attractive; weigh that against the system’s added weight and complexity.
