Akia Automotive is reported to have secured an order for 50 battery-electric buses for Istanbul’s public transport operator, IETT. The buses are the 12-metre AKIA Ultra LF12EV; production is planned to begin in 2027, but no firm delivery calendar has been published.
What is included in the reported order?
Electrive reported on 6 October 2026 that Akia Automotive, operating through Ulaşım İç ve Dış Ticaret A.Ş. under the AKIA brand, had secured an IETT contract for 50 Ultra LF12EV battery-electric solo buses. The account attributes the award to a company announcement; it does not cite a tender notice or direct confirmation from IETT. Electrive’s report
The report says manufacturing is planned to start in 2027 and describes a major Istanbul rollout that year. It does not specify when individual buses will be delivered or enter service. The 2027 timing is therefore a reported plan, not a completed delivery.
What is known about the AKIA Ultra LF12EV?
Electrive reports a 240 kW electric motor and a 465 kWh battery. Passenger capacity is stated as up to 80, attributed to the manufacturer. The bus is described as low-floor and equipped with a wheelchair ramp.

The report also lists driver-assistance systems, digital cameras in place of conventional exterior mirrors, and operator telematics for real-time battery status, energy consumption and fleet-performance data. These are reported vehicle features, not independently assessed performance results.
What do the reported IETT tests establish?
In a company post, AKIA says the 12-metre Ultra LF12EV completed tests on Istanbul urban routes in both empty and fully loaded conditions. The company says the criteria included battery efficiency, driving dynamics, range performance and passenger capacity. The post does not give a test protocol, numeric range or results that can be independently checked. It supports the narrower statement that AKIA says the bus completed those tests; it does not establish a verified real-world range or independently audited test outcome.
What remains undisclosed?
- The contract value and a formal tender reference or procurement notice.
- A firm delivery schedule and the date buses will enter passenger service.
- Which routes or depots will receive the buses, and what charging infrastructure will be used.
- The Ultra LF12EV’s numeric operating range and independently verified performance data.
Without those details, the order cannot yet be assessed on cost, operational range, charging requirements or delivery performance.

Who is Akia Automotive?
The manufacturer’s official English website identifies Ulaşım İç ve Dış Ticaret A.Ş. with the AKIA brand and lists the Ultra LF12 EV among its city buses. The company says it manufactures buses, midibuses and metrobuses at its factory in Bursa İnegöl, and lists after-sales service, warranty, training, spare parts and documentation. Electrive quotes an email statement from Akia describing the order as “the first major tender for electric buses in Turkey.” That is the company’s characterization, not an independently verified conclusion. The available account does not provide the broader procurement evidence needed to establish the superlative.
