AIR’s full-scale AIR ONE prototype first hovered on June 21, 2022, at Megiddo in northern Israel. The company announced that milestone in July; in December 2022, it reported the aircraft’s first hover-to-cruise transition. The original headline describes a development milestone from 2022—not testing that is just beginning today.
When did the AIR ONE first fly?
AIR announced on July 12, 2022, that its full-scale prototype had completed its first hover test after receiving an airworthiness certificate. The company said the flight took place on June 21 at Megiddo in northern Israel, with additional hovers that day and over the following two weeks. AIR’s July 2022 announcement is the source for the initial full-scale flight milestone.

CEO and co-founder Rani Plaut described the first lift-off as “truly awe-inspiring.” That was his reaction in AIR’s announcement, which was also a company press release.
Did it fly forward, or only hover?
AIR reported a further milestone on December 20, 2022: the prototype had completed its first full forward flight on December 18, transitioning from hover to cruise. The company said the aircraft was loaded to 1,100 kg (2,425 lb) for that flight. Those are details reported by AIR, not independent measurements. The December 2022 release documents the reported transition.

- Brushless motor delivers strong power with 50Kgs thrust, ideal for demanding aerial applications like eVTOL models.
- Engineered by trusted brand MAXUAV to ensure high reliability and consistent performance for advanced drone builds and custom projects.
- Optimized structure balances power and handling, supporting smooth integration into personal electric flying airplanes or man-powered flight systems.
- Perfect for innovative flight applications including sports-car style VTOL aircraft configurations and experimental manned flights.
- Environmentally safe composition meets safety standards with no high-concern chemicals, ensuring compliant use in regulated environments.
AIR’s press-kit footage caption also describes fully loaded flight at 1,100 kg, but gives the equivalent as 2,400 lb rather than the 2,425 lb in the release. Both figures are company-published; the available material does not explain the small conversion difference. AIR’s press kit supplies the caption.
What changed in the 2026 AIR ONE configuration?
At EAA AirVenture Oshkosh on July 20, 2026, AIR unveiled an updated configuration that it said was designed to support piloted flight testing later that year. The announcement describes an intention, not confirmation that those tests had happened by October 8, 2026. AIR’s 2026 announcement named these changes and components:
Rank #2
- Model: 4015 carbon plastic folding propellers for XP2020 plant protection machine
- Configuration: 8 pieces with A20 motor , ready to install and use
- Lightweight: Made of carbon fiber composite material, moderate weight and durable.
- Balanced: Improve flight stability and reduce vibration.
- Compatible: Install and fly, no additional debugging required.
- An airframe engineered by EDAG.
- Custom NIDEC motors and a new aircraft battery.
- Dynon Avionics’ SkyView HDX flight display.
- Premium seating, an overhead cockpit panel and cockpit-ergonomics changes.
The announcement identifies the updated configuration; it does not provide independently measured evidence that these changes improve speed, range or other performance.

AIR’s product page lists a one-hour flight time and a fast cruise speed of 115 knots. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independently verified test results in the cited material. The same page labels aircraft certification “pending,” so the evidence does not establish that AIR ONE is certified for customer operation. AIR’s AIR ONE product page states its current specifications and certification status.
