Luxury cars commonly offer more refined interior materials, elegant styling, sportier handling, distinctive wheels, or more powerful engines than mainstream models. Why the purchase price is only part of affordability
Edmunds warns that luxury-car maintenance can involve higher parts and labor costs, and some models require premium fuel. It estimates that a BMW X3 costs approximately twice as much to maintain on average as a Honda CR-V; that comparison applies to those models and should not be generalized to every luxury car.
