The original model paired a four-cylinder or V6 with different transmissions; the 2021 redesign began the second generation, and a substantial 2024 update refreshed its styling, technology, and cabin noise control. Acura Canada announced in July 2025 that TLX production would conclude that month.
How the TLX generation timeline is organized
For a practical model-year comparison, the TLX is commonly divided into two generations. That labeling is a useful convention; the generation dates are corroborated by a secondary model overview, while Acura’s own materials establish the model-year endpoints and 2025 production announcement.

First generation: 2015–2020
2015: The TLX arrives with two powertrain choices
Acura announced the TLX in March 2014 as a 2015 model. Buyers could choose a 2.4-liter direct-injected four-cylinder paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with a torque converter, or a 3.5-liter V6 paired with a nine-speed automatic. 2020: First-generation powertrain figures
Acura’s 2020 specifications list 206 hp and 182 lb-ft for the 2.4-liter four-cylinder, and 290 hp and 267 lb-ft for the 3.5-liter V6. The four-cylinder uses the eight-speed DCT and is front-wheel drive (FWD); V6 models use the nine-speed automatic, with SH-AWD on the specified V6 SH-AWD configuration. Acura’s EPA ratings for the 2020 configurations were:
- 2.4-liter base configuration: 23/33/27 mpg city/highway/combined.
- V6: 20/31/24 mpg city/highway/combined.
- V6 SH-AWD: 20/29/23 mpg city/highway/combined.
These are the ratings Acura published for those 2020 configurations; compare a used car against the rating for its exact powertrain and drivetrain.

Second generation: 2021–2025
2021–2023: The second-generation span
The second generation is commonly dated from model year 2021. The available official materials confirm the 2025 endpoint, but do not provide a complete annual change log for 2021–2023. For feature or specification differences within those years, use the Acura information for the specific model year rather than assuming the 2024 equipment applies retroactively. 2024: A significant styling and technology refresh
Acura’s 2024 update brought a frameless Diamond Pentagon grille, a standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless charging. The 2024 lineup’s engine and tire specifications vary by version:

2025: Final model-year materials and production announcement
Acura’s 2025 fact sheet gives EPA ratings of 22/31/25 mpg city/highway/combined for FWD, 21/29/24 for A-Spec SH-AWD, and 19/25/21 for Type S. The ratings are configuration-specific, not a single economy figure for all 2025 TLX models. In a July 23, 2025 announcement, Acura Canada said TLX production would conclude that month, citing changing automotive-market conditions and gradually declining sales. The announcement is specific to Acura Canada; it does not establish how long individual dealers in every market may have new vehicles in stock or whether a successor will follow. Start with the exact year and configuration. A model-year label alone does not tell you which engine, drivetrain, equipment package, fuel-economy rating, or wheel-and-tire setup a particular car has.
- Confirm the generation and year. Identify whether the car is a 2015–2020 first-generation model or a 2021–2025 second-generation model, then verify its exact year.
- Match engine and transmission. The 2015 launch lineup and 2020 specifications illustrate why this matters: four-cylinder and V6 models used different transmissions.
- Check FWD versus SH-AWD. Drivetrain can affect configuration, equipment, and the applicable fuel-economy rating.
- Compare trim equipment. Pay particular attention to the 2024 technology and noise-control updates and the Type S equipment changes.
- Verify wheels and tire size. The 2024 2.0T and Type S examples have different listed tire sizes. Check the vehicle’s door-jamb placard and wheel package before ordering replacements.
- Use the matching EPA figure. Compare like with like: the rating for the same year, engine, trim, and drivetrain.
There is no single objectively best TLX year for every used-car buyer. A sound choice depends on priorities and on the individual vehicle’s condition, service history, price, and recall status; the specifications above do not establish comparative reliability or ownership costs.
