Acura is suspending production of the current RDX in 2026, but the company says the nameplate will return as a fourth-generation hybrid. The unusual wrinkle is that, alongside the planned model change, Car and Driver reports that some suppliers can no longer provide key parts for the current SUV. Acura has not announced a firm launch date for its successor.
Is Acura killing the RDX?
No. Acura announced on January 14, 2026, that production of the current 2026 RDX would be suspended later that year as the company prepares a fourth-generation model. Acura says the successor is in development and is planned to reach the market within “the next couple of years,” but it has not specified a launch date or model year. Acura’s announcement describes a transition to the next-generation vehicle, not a permanent end to the RDX name.
The distinction matters for buyers: production of the current generation is ending, but Acura says an RDX successor is coming. The timing and availability of remaining 2026 vehicles will depend on inventory.
Why is Acura stopping current RDX production?

Acura connects the production suspension to the development of the fourth-generation RDX, which will introduce a two-motor hybrid-electric system—the first application of that system in an Acura. The company has not yet announced the hybrid’s power output, fuel economy, price, or firm on-sale date. Acura’s release is the source for the transition and hybrid details.

Reported complication: suppliers for the current model
Car and Driver separately reported that production was expected to end in spring 2026 and quoted an Acura spokesperson saying “several suppliers that are no longer in position to continue supplying key parts for the current RDX.” That is reported supplier context, not the explanation Acura gave in its announcement. Together, the two accounts suggest a production gap shaped by both the shift to a new generation and the reported supply constraint on the outgoing one. The supplier issue should not be presented as Acura’s sole or official reason for the change.

Why does Acura call the RDX successful?
American Honda reported nearly 740,000 cumulative U.S. RDX sales in its January 2026 business outlook. That is a lifetime-to-date U.S. figure, not annual sales and not evidence of the model’s current sales rank. American Honda’s outlook gives the cumulative total.
In Acura’s January 2026 announcement, Mike Langel, assistant vice president of Acura National Sales, said: “For nearly two decades, RDX has been one of the most popular Acura models, so it’s fitting that the upcoming fourth-generation RDX will be the first Acura to feature our two-motor hybrid-electric system.”

There is no universal answer: buying now means choosing among the current model’s listed trims and whatever local inventory remains; waiting means accepting an unspecified launch window in exchange for a confirmed hybrid architecture whose price and performance are not yet known.
