Who is taking over AC Schnitzer?
KOHL Group agreed to sell AC Schnitzer to AM Group, according to BMWBLOG and Carscoops. Top Gear reported on 6 October that AC Schnitzer had announced it would continue tuning BMWs following the acquisition. The reports put the expected closing in November 2026; they do not establish that the deal has already closed.
The reported transfer includes technical documentation and TÜV approvals or certification files. That material matters because it can support engineering and approval work, but the reporting does not confirm which products, vehicle applications, or commercial arrangements will carry over.
Why was AC Schnitzer’s future in doubt?
Before the sale agreement, the plan was to wind down AC Schnitzer’s tuning operations by the end of 2026. BMWBLOG attributed the difficulties to rising costs, a challenging German market, regulatory delays, exchange-rate volatility, and weaker demand. Carscoops separately cited rising costs, unpredictable suppliers, and slow approvals. These are explanations reported in coverage, not figures from an audited company filing.

What does AM Group say it wants to change?
Rainer Vogel, AC Schnitzer’s managing director, described the prospective owner’s role as follows in a statement quoted by Top Gear on 6 October 2026: “AM Group provides the resources the company needs in a rapidly changing market environment to drive growth, increase dynamism and strengthen its appeal to new customer segments,”
AM Group co-CEO Patrick Meijer told Carscoops on 1 October 2026: “We will provide the resources, infrastructure and investment required to make the brand relevant for the next generation. This is part of our DNA and what we bring to the table,”

Carscoops also quoted reported incoming managing director Imran Arshad: “Clear vision, engineering excellence, purposeful design, and attention to detail – these are the values that have made AC Schnitzer so appealing to BMW customers, including myself. The brand’s heritage is the foundation for innovation,”
Those comments set out the executives’ intentions; they do not confirm completed investment, new products, or commercial results.

What does AC Schnitzer make, and what is known about its history?
AC Schnitzer is reported to have started in Aachen in 1987. Vehicle Dynamics International and Carscoops identify its first project as the ACS7, based on the E32-generation BMW 7 Series. On that reported founding date, 2027 will mark the brand’s 40th anniversary; Top Gear also notes that milestone.
BMWBLOG lists engine upgrades, exhaust systems, suspension components, aerodynamic parts, wheels, and interior accessories among the brand’s products. Coverage also mentions applications for MINI and the Toyota Supra. These categories do not apply to every model, and the reports do not establish which parts or vehicle fitments will remain available after the transfer.

Will its products and dealer network continue?
The sale agreement and reported transfer of technical and TÜV files point to a path for the business to continue, but they are not a guarantee that its existing catalog, dealer network, or every model-specific application will be retained. The available reports do not provide a definitive post-transfer catalog, verified fitment list, or details of dealer support. Anyone considering a part should confirm the exact vehicle and model year, market-specific approval, availability, and support with an authorized seller before buying.
