Coverage also says the Tessie app indicated about 11% degradation. The same account lists roughly $1,000 in repairs over nearly six years. These are reports about one car—not a controlled battery test, a verified service ledger, or a prediction of what another Model 3 will need.
What was reported about this high-mileage Model 3?
Secondary coverage says Lawrence bought his Model 3 in September 2018 and accumulated about 155,000 miles, or 250,000 km. One retelling describes the period as five years; a January 2025 report calls it nearly six years. The reports do not identify the car’s trim, battery chemistry, market, or exact mileage at the time of any battery assessment. Indian Defence Review’s account and a Click Petróleo e Gás retelling report the owner’s experience.
The owner reportedly described the car as “99% similar to new.” That is his subjective impression of the vehicle, not an independent inspection or condition rating.
How much battery degradation was reported?
The coverage attributes an estimated 8–10% capacity loss to the owner and says the Tessie app indicated about 11%. The underlying battery test records, original baseline, and calculation method are not available in the reporting. Those figures should therefore be read as reported estimates, not as the result of a confirmed capacity test.

This automotive battery is built to perform consistently within a wide temperature range from -22°F to 158°F, withstanding short-term extremes from -40°F to 75°F, ensuring maximum performance no matter the weather.
- ✅ Advanced AGM Technology for High Performance: Specially designed for vehicles with start-stop technology and those requiring greater power, this AGM battery delivers up to 2X the cycle life of conventional batteries. With its high-density negative paste, it ensures improved conductivity, longer battery life, and faster recharge times. Maintenance-free design—no need to add liquid or water.
- ✅ Durable & Safe Design: This group 48 battery is 18X more vibration-resistant than standard batteries, ensuring a longer service life and reliable performance. Its leak-proof, non-spillable design offers enhanced safety, and the absence of free acid guarantees stable performance, preventing acid leakage and internal corrosion. Ideal for tough conditions.
- ✅ Not for Deep Cycle Applications: Please note that this is a starting battery and is not designed for deep-cycle applications such as solar or marine use. It is ideal for vehicles with higher electrical accessory loads or those that need a high CCA starting battery with enhanced cyclic performance. Verify that the battery type and specifications match your vehicle's requirements.
The owner said he relied mostly on Supercharging because slow charging was unavailable to him. He also said he saw little difference from other cars that slow-charged, estimating “maybe one or two percent.” The reports provide no sample size, matched vehicles, comparable measurements, or controls, so this anecdote cannot show that Supercharging has no effect on battery degradation.
Tesla says a Model 3’s high-voltage battery becomes less effective over time because of aging and use. Retention can depend on age, battery-pack size and chemistry, and how the car is driven and charged. Some vehicles offer a Battery Health evaluation under Controls > Service > Battery Health; the optional Battery Health Test requires AC charging for up to 24 hours and may not be available on every car. Tesla advises owners to use the vehicle-specific result and service guidance rather than infer battery health from a displayed range estimate. See the Model 3 owner’s manual section on high-voltage battery health.

What repairs did the owner reportedly make?
The reports list three repairs and put total repair spending at approximately $1,000. The figures are approximate, not an audited service history.
| Reported repair | Reported cost |
|---|---|
| Charging-port replacement | About $600 |
| 12-volt low-voltage battery | About $125 |
| Upper control arms, replaced after squeaking | A few hundred dollars |
| Reported total over nearly six years | Approximately $1,000 |
The owner also reportedly replaced the original Michelin 4S tires with less expensive brands; the coverage does not specify how many tires, their sizes, or what they cost. A separate owner account describes a different high-mileage Tesla that needed a battery replacement and faced difficult service logistics. That is another individual story, not a statistical comparison, but it illustrates why the repair total in this case should not be treated as a typical ownership-cost promise. The other owner’s account is available online.

What this story can—and cannot—tell a used Model 3 buyer
This case shows what one owner says happened to one car. It does not establish the expected degradation, repair bill, or reliability of a used Model 3. The missing trim, battery chemistry, test procedure, service invoices, and primary test records make direct comparison with another car especially uncertain.
- Check the exact vehicle’s configuration, age, mileage, battery chemistry, and available Battery Health result.
- Review service documentation and inspect the car rather than treating another owner’s repair list as a forecast.
- Check warranty coverage for the specific market, variant, and purchase date. Tesla’s current Qatar-market warranty page lists eight years or 160,000 km for Model 3 RWD and eight years or 192,000 km for named higher-range and performance variants, whichever comes first, with at least 70% battery capacity retention during the warranty period. Those current Qatar terms do not establish what covered this unidentified 2018 car or what applies in another market. Tesla’s Qatar warranty page gives the market-specific terms.
- Consider local service access and documented repair history; a low reported repair total from one owner cannot guarantee similar costs for another vehicle.
What Tesla says about maintenance
Tesla says its service-interval list is not comprehensive and that Model 3 maintenance is generally needed as conditions and use require. Its published examples include replacing the cabin air filter every two years, or annually in China, and cleaning and lubricating brake calipers yearly or every 20,000 km where roads are salted in winter. Tesla also warns that damage caused by opening the battery coolant reservoir is excluded from warranty. Consult the Model 3 service-interval guidance for the applicable details.

Low-voltage battery fitment is also vehicle-specific. For applicable North American Model 3 vehicles with a lead-acid low-voltage battery, Tesla’s 2017–2023 manual identifies an AtlasBX/Hankook 85B24LS, 12V 45Ah battery. Tesla cautions that production timing and battery chemistry vary and instructs owners to confirm the installed type and replace it with the same type. This specification is not a universal Model 3 fitment guide. Tesla’s low-voltage battery instructions explain the qualification.
