Chevrolet’s 2024 Z06 fact sheet identifies the model with a 5.5-liter DOHC V8 rated at 670 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Those specifications identify the car; they do not explain the fall or indicate how badly it was damaged.
Why did the Corvette fall off the lift?
The exact cause has not been confirmed in the available coverage. The Military.com/CarBuzz article discusses poor weight balance and misplaced support arms as hazards when lifting a mid-engine car, but presents no official finding that either caused this particular fall. A car’s weight distribution makes correct support placement important; it is not proof of what went wrong in this case.

The Autopian’s account of a separate 2023 C8 lift incident reports that roughly 40 percent of the car’s weight sits over the front axle and 60 percent over the rear. It also places the rear lifting points just ahead of the rear wheel arches. These are secondary-source details, not a substitute for the lifting instructions for a specific model year and configuration.
Where are the C8 Corvette lift points?
Use the lifting points and procedure specified for the exact Corvette model year and configuration. Chevrolet provides downloadable owner manuals and supplemental guides through its support site; diagnostic and service manuals are available through GM Service Information. The reported location of the rear points on a C8 is useful context, not a reason to rely on a general description instead of the applicable manual.

What precautions matter when lifting a C8?
The Autopian describes raising a vehicle only a small amount first, checking that it is secure by rocking it, then continuing to raise it and setting it on a lift lock. That is general reporting, not a replacement for Chevrolet’s model-specific instructions, lift-manufacturer guidance, or properly trained service personnel.
- Confirm the correct support points and procedure in the manual or service information for the exact vehicle.
- Follow the lift manufacturer’s operating instructions and shop safety practices.
- Check that the vehicle is stable before raising it further, using the procedure specified by the lift maker and vehicle instructions.
Was the Corvette totaled?
The available report does not establish the car’s final damage assessment, whether it can be repaired, or whether compensation was paid. Do not treat the fall itself as proof that the Z06 was a total loss.

A CorvetteForum account about a separate 2020 incident involving owner Jake Miller says the dealer reimbursed him for the car and associated costs and offered an early place in line for a future Z06. That is a reported outcome of the earlier case only; it says nothing about the 2026 owner or dealership.
