A 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider Competizione, chassis 2383 GT, sold for $25,305,000 at Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach Auctions in August 2025. Gooding Christie’s called it a world auction record for the California Spider model. The previous record dates to 2008 in specialist auction-history reporting, so the headline’s “20-year-old” is a rounded description, not a full 20-year interval.
Which Ferrari sold for $25.3 million?
The record-setting car was a competition-specification 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider, chassis 2383 GT. It sold at Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach Auctions in August 2025 for a published price of $25,305,000. Gooding Christie’s results announcement reported the price, while its lot listing identifies the car and chassis.
What auction record did it break?
Gooding Christie’s described the $25,305,000 result as a world auction record for the Ferrari 250 GT California Spider model and as the most valuable car it had auctioned at that point. The auction house said the result exceeded the prior model mark by nearly $7 million. These are the auction house’s reported record claims; they refer to auction results, not private sales or inflation-adjusted values.
When was the previous record set?
Specialist auction-history coverage places the previous California Spider auction record in 2008, roughly 17 years before the Pebble Beach sale. That makes “20-year-old” a loose, rounded headline description rather than an exact elapsed period. The specialist history account is the source for the prior-record year; Gooding Christie’s official results establish the 2025 result.

Did a later California Spider sale beat the record?
No later result identified in the cited auction-house reports exceeded the 2025 mark. Gooding Christie’s reported that a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider sold for $16,505,000 at Amelia Island in March 2026, below the $25,305,000 Pebble Beach result. The two published nominal prices are not adjusted for inflation. Gooding Christie’s Amelia Island results announcement was published March 9, 2026.

The record belongs to a specific car and specification: chassis 2383 GT, a 1961 short-wheelbase California Spider Competizione. It should not be described as a price achieved by any California Spider, nor confused with a general record for all Ferraris. The model, competition specification, auction venue and date are essential context for interpreting the figure.

- High quality die cast construction
- 1: 24 scale model
- Incredibly detailed
Gooding Christie’s has also cited Ferrari Spider California by Stanley Nowak (1990) and The Spyder California by George Carrick (1976) as literature documenting the model. Those titles provide historical reading context; the auction-house reference does not establish current availability or a particular edition for sale.
