RepairPal’s model-level averages identify eight Toyota models with annual repair and maintenance costs below the relevant vehicle-class average: the Yaris, Corolla, Camry, Matrix, Prius, RAV4, Avalon and Tacoma. The Yaris and Corolla have the lowest reported averages in this group, at $333 and $362 per year. These are broad database averages across model years—not quotes or a personalized ownership budget—and the figures do not support a verified list of ten models.
RepairPal’s annual cost estimates for eight Toyota models
The table compares RepairPal’s reported annual averages with the segment comparisons or reliability details available for each model. The amounts are database averages spanning model years, not guaranteed costs for a particular car. RepairPal’s pages use somewhat different descriptions of what the annual metric includes: the Toyota overview says the brand average includes scheduled maintenance and unscheduled repairs, while model pages describe costs for repair and maintenance. Treat the figures as useful for broad comparison, not as perfectly uniform measures of an individual owner’s full annual expenses.
| Model | RepairPal annual average | Comparison and reliability context |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota Yaris | $333 | Subcompact average: $456; reliability rating: 4.5/5; rank: 1 of 21 subcompacts. RepairPal Yaris data. |
| Toyota Corolla | $362 | Compact-car average: $526; reliability rating: 4.5/5; rank: 1 of 36 compacts. RepairPal Corolla data. |
| Toyota Camry | $388 | Reliability rating: 4.0/5; rank: 3 of 24 midsize cars. RepairPal Camry/Corolla comparison. |
| Toyota Matrix | $396 | Compact-car average: $526; reliability rating: 4.5/5; rank: 4 of 36 compacts. RepairPal Matrix data. |
| Toyota Prius | $408 | Reliability rating: 4.0/5; rank: 10 of 24 midsize cars. RepairPal notes more frequent visits than average, often for minor issues. RepairPal Prius data. |
| Toyota RAV4 | $429 | Compact-SUV average: $521; reliability rating: 4.0/5; rank: 3 of 26 compact SUVs. RepairPal RAV4 data. |
| Toyota Avalon | $463 | Full-size-car average: $590; reliability rating: 4.0/5; rank: 3 of 12 full-size cars. RepairPal Avalon data. |
| Toyota Tacoma | $478 | Midsize-truck average: $548; reliability rating: 3.5/5; rank: 7 of 7 midsize trucks; 17% severe-repair probability. RepairPal Tacoma data. |
RepairPal labels the pages with a 2026 rating, but the page excerpts do not verify that every underlying vehicle or repair invoice dates from 2026. Its Toyota overview reports a $441 brand average, compared with $652 across all makes, and rates Toyota 4.0/5; it also reports 0.3 unscheduled repair visits per year and a 12% probability of severe repairs. The overview says its cost average includes scheduled maintenance and unscheduled repairs. RepairPal’s Toyota reliability overview.
How to interpret the numbers
Yaris and Corolla are the lowest-cost entries here
Among the eight models with cost figures, the Yaris and Corolla have the lowest annual averages. Their figures are also below the cited averages for their respective segments. That makes them sensible starting points for shoppers prioritizing lower typical repair and maintenance costs, but it does not predict the expenses of a specific used or new car.

Cost is only one part of reliability
RepairPal says its reliability rating combines repair cost, frequency and severity. Its method describes the rating as “a measurement of vehicle dependability based on the cost, frequency, and severity of unscheduled repairs and maintenance.” RepairPal’s methodology and Toyota overview.
The Tacoma shows why a below-segment-average cost alone is not enough to call a model a top reliability choice: its average is below the midsize-truck comparison, but RepairPal ranks it last in that segment and reports a 17% severe-repair probability. The Prius also illustrates the distinction between cost and frequency: RepairPal reports a modest average cost but says visits are more frequent than average and often involve minor issues.

Compare vehicles within their class
A Yaris, RAV4 and Tacoma serve different needs and belong to different segments. Their dollar averages should not be treated as a precise cross-class ranking: vehicle size, design and use differ, and RepairPal’s ratings reflect more than cost. Compare the relevant model with similar vehicles, then consider whether its space, capability and operating costs suit your needs.
What can change an individual car’s costs
RepairPal’s averages span model years, so a particular vehicle can cost more or less to maintain and repair. Model year, mileage, condition, maintenance history, location, parts availability and local labor rates all matter. The available figures do not quantify how much any one of these factors changes the estimate.

- Check service records for completed routine maintenance and documented repairs.
- Have a used vehicle inspected before purchase, with attention to issues specific to its age and condition.
- Compare local repair estimates and labor rates rather than assuming a national average applies where you live.
- Use the model average as a broad comparison point, not as a reserve amount that guarantees coverage of future work.
Model-year reliability evidence is a separate measure
Consumer Reports’ 2025 Prius page says its reliability score draws on its latest subscriber survey of 2025 Prius owners and describes that Prius as more reliable than other cars from the same model year. Its 2025 Corolla page uses the same survey basis and describes the Corolla as much more reliable than other same-year cars. Those assessments concern specific model years and survey-based reliability; they are not RepairPal cost figures and should not be folded into the cost comparison above. Consumer Reports: 2025 Toyota Prius reliability; Consumer Reports: 2025 Toyota Corolla reliability. Consumer Reports also identifies its 2025 Camry reliability page as survey-based, but the available page excerpt does not establish a comparative rating: 2025 Toyota Camry reliability.

RepairPal’s overview names Prius C, Prius Plug-In and Prius V among its top Toyota models, but the available figures do not establish annual costs for those variants. Without comparable model-level cost evidence, they cannot responsibly be added as low-maintenance picks to reach ten. The supported comparison therefore covers eight models, not ten.
