Thieves stole 44 wheels from 11 Teslas parked in League City, Texas, during incidents reported on February 14 and 15, 2025. Police said the vehicles were in a storage lot beside a former Amazon building—not an operating Amazon warehouse. When the Houston Chronicle reported the case on March 4, police said it was inactive because investigators had no leads.
What happened in the League City parking lot?
According to the Houston Chronicle’s March 4, 2025, report, wheels were taken from 11 Teslas at 2455 Tuscan Lakes Boulevard in League City on February 14 and 15. The League City Police Department account put the total at 44 wheels. An attempt to remove wheels from a 12th car was unsuccessful, and another attempt was reported the following day. Tesla had been using the lot for about six months to park vehicles. It sat beside a former Amazon building; the report does not describe the location as an active Amazon warehouse.
Why was there no camera footage?
The lot was walled off, but its entrances and exits were open. Nearby building cameras were not recording, and the Teslas’ cameras did not record because the vehicles were powered off, the Chronicle reported. The account does not say whether wheel locks or other anti-theft devices were fitted to the cars.

What did police say about the investigation?
League City Police Department public information officer Jose Ortega told the Chronicle: “These cases are inactive due the lack of investigative leads,” preserving the wording as printed in the report. That was the case status reported on March 4, 2025; it does not establish whether the investigation’s status has changed since.
The Chronicle reported that anyone with information could contact League City police at 281-332-2566. Because the number and case status are dated details, contact the department directly to confirm current information.

Why were the Tesla wheels stolen?
The reports do not establish a motive or identify a suspect. Futurism discussed the theft amid contemporaneous protests and vandalism directed at Tesla, but that context is not evidence that the League City theft was politically motivated.
