A U.S. recall covers 406,290 potentially affected vehicles in the 2016–2021 Honda Civic range, but it applies to certain 18-inch accessory alloy wheels—not every Civic or every factory-installed wheel. Check your car’s 17-character VIN in NHTSA’s recall lookup to see whether it has an unrepaired recall. If it does, contact a Honda dealer for the free inspection and any needed hub and wheel replacement.
Which Honda Civics and wheels are covered?
NHTSA campaign 25E071, which Honda identifies as recall MMZ, concerns certain 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels sold as accessories for 2016–2021 Honda Civic vehicles. The Part 573 filing lists wheel part number 08W18-TEA-100A. A Civic’s model year alone does not establish that it has an affected wheel or an open recall.
NHTSA’s November 6, 2025 acknowledgment says 406,290 units are potentially affected. The filing lists December 1–31, 2018 as the production dates for the wheel component; those dates do not mean the affected Civics were all built during that period. What is the wheel problem, and what could happen?
The Part 573 report says steel lug seat inserts were not pressed into the wheel’s aluminum nut seating surface. NHTSA warns: “Wheel detachment can cause a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.”

How to check whether your Civic has an open recall
- Find your vehicle’s 17-character VIN. Use the VIN on your vehicle or its paperwork; do not rely on a model-year match alone.
- Enter the VIN in NHTSA’s recall lookup. The page explains whether that specific vehicle has an unrepaired recall. The VIN shown in the page URL is only an example and is not an eligibility example for this Civic recall.
- If the lookup shows an unrepaired recall, contact a local Honda dealer to arrange the recall service. You can also call Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.
What is the Honda Civic wheel recall remedy?
Honda’s stated remedy is for dealers to inspect the wheels and replace hubs and wheels as necessary, free of charge. Arrange the work through a Honda dealer; the remedy does not call for owners to buy a replacement wheel or attempt the repair themselves.
The November 6, 2025 acknowledgment listed November 6, 2025 as the planned date for VIN-search availability and December 8, 2025 as the expected mailing date for owner notification letters. These are dates stated in the filing, not confirmation that a particular owner received a letter or that a specific vehicle’s repair is complete. The VIN result is the way to check an individual vehicle’s open-recall status.
