Before installing nitrous, confirm that the exact kit is compatible with your vehicle, understand its bottle and line safety requirements, and check the rules for your location and intended use. A kit manual applies to the products it names—not automatically to other systems—and a general emissions statement is not proof that a particular vehicle-and-kit combination is approved.
What should I know before installing nitrous in my vehicle?
1. Verify the exact kit against your vehicle
Compatibility is specific to the kit and the vehicle. The NOS owner’s manual P/N 199R10592 covers Dry EFI Pro Fogger Professional kits 04471NOS and 04472NOS. It places responsibility on the purchaser to follow the supplied installation and safety instructions and determine whether the product suits the intended vehicle. Its procedures are not universal instructions for other nitrous systems.
Installation details matter: the manual warns that incorrect routing or connection of high-pressure lines can cause serious engine damage, and directs users to keep lines away from exhaust and moving parts. Treat these as examples of why the instructions for your exact kit and vehicle configuration matter, not as a complete installation guide. Consult the current manual supplied for the kit; if fitment or routing is uncertain, have a qualified technician assess it.
2. Treat the bottle, lines, and fittings as safety-critical
For the kits covered by that NOS manual, the manufacturer warns against contact between cylinders, valves, solenoids, hoses, or fittings and oil, grease, or other readily combustible substances. It also says not to drop or violently strike the bottle, alter the bottle valve’s safety-relief pressure setting, force connections that do not fit properly, or leave the bottle valve open when the system is not being used. Follow the current instructions for your specific kit rather than assuming these directions cover every product.

- If you are a serious nitrous junkie on a tight budget we have what you have been waiting for! NX introduces MainLine Nitrous Systems.
- MainLine Systems benefit from the years of research and development that made Nitrous Express the leader in the nitrous world, but at a price even the most budget-restricted racer can afford.
- Just the basics, no frills, just rock solid performance at rock bottom prices.
- The ML1000 will outperform any other 250HP carbureted kit on the market, guaranteed to make 250HP.
- Most of it s competitors promise 250HP but only produce 160WHP!.
The same manual gives a specific warning about a system that has injected nitrous while the engine was not running: do not simply attempt to start the engine, because severe engine damage may result. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and seek qualified help rather than improvising a recovery procedure.
3. Check street-use and competition rules before modifying or driving
Is a nitrous kit legal on the street? There is no universal answer established here. The NOS manual says NOS nitrous is legal in most states when used in accordance with state and local traffic laws, but also says the company had not pursued CARB exemptions for the two covered kits and that they are not legal for use on pollution-controlled vehicles in California. Those statements are specific to that manual and do not settle the current status of every kit, vehicle, location, or use.

- Proton Series nitrous systems combine performance, durability and value in a compact and easy to mount module.
- Proton systems contain high quality, made in the USA, solenoids that are capable of producing 250 horsepower to the wheels.
- The black anodized aluminum housing not only looks great, it pulls heat away from the solenoids for extreme durability.
- This system fits all electronic fuel injected vehicles with a single throttle body.
- This Proton system includes: 10lb nitrous bottle with a standard bottle valve.
Check current requirements with the relevant state or local authority before street use, and check the rules of the sanctioning body before competition use. OSHA’s 29 CFR 1910.105 concerns piped nitrous oxide systems used for in-plant transfer and distribution. It is not a general vehicle-installation rule.
4. Do not mistake general emissions guidance for kit approval
The EPA says changes to a vehicle or engine’s original design can potentially violate the Clean Air Act and may cause increased emissions. Its alternative-fuel conversion guidance describes compliance pathways for those conversions; it does not specifically certify nitrous kits or determine whether a particular nitrous installation complies.

The EPA’s vehicle and engine certification resources offer manufacturers certification materials and guidance letters. They are a place to investigate compliance, not evidence that the example NOS kits are certified or exempt. Ask for documentation that applies to the exact kit and vehicle, and verify requirements with the appropriate authority.
