Its defining idea was architectural: arrange four decks around light, views, privacy and generous outdoor living, rather than treating the yacht as a conventional hull with rooms placed inside.
What was the 40 Signature Series?
YachtPlus presented the 40 Signature Series in 2008 as a roughly 40–41-metre yacht designed by Foster + Partners. A YachtPlus presentation reproduced by 5osA said the design took 15 months and involved a seven-architect team. Foster described the aim as combining the studio’s design experience with Italian boatbuilding craft “in the quest for a contemporary and timeless design.”
Sources associate construction with Rodriquez Cantieri Navali, an Italian shipyard. The available accounts describe a designed and built vessel, but do not establish its present operating or ownership status.
How the architecture shaped the yacht
The design’s central move was to make the decks function like a sequence of indoor and outdoor spaces. Four levels offered opportunities for terraces and open-air use, while the layout emphasized usable interior space, views and privacy. YachtPlus’s presentation claimed more than 30% additional indoor and outdoor space compared with yachts in its category; that was a promotional comparison, not an independently verified measurement.

Terraces, beach deck and hardtop
New Atlas’s 2008 description highlights a submergible beach deck and capacity for up to 12 guests and seven crew. The YachtPlus presentation also described a retractable carbon-fibre hardtop bimini, intended to provide shade while preserving an open-air feel when retracted. Together, these features extend the living area beyond enclosed cabins and salons.

New Atlas reported in 2008 that YachtPlus offered an eight-person fractional ownership arrangement. Shareholders could use allocated time and charter weeks they did not use, receiving a share of the charter revenue. Those were historical program terms; they do not establish that the yacht, YachtPlus or a charter arrangement is available today.
