The Honda NT1100, Yamaha TRACER 9 and Kawasaki Versys 650 each bring touring-friendly equipment to everyday riding, but none is automatically easy in traffic. Wind protection and luggage can make a commute more comfortable; weight, seat reach and width can make stops and parking harder. The right pick depends on your route, local trim and how confidently you can manage the bike at low speed.
Three touring motorcycles worth considering for commuting
These are not small city bikes. They are touring-oriented motorcycles that may suit riders who want one bike for weekday travel and longer rides. The manufacturer figures below come from different markets and use different weight conventions, so they should not be treated as a direct ranking. Check the specifications for the exact model and trim sold where you live.
Honda NT1100: the clearest everyday-and-touring brief
Honda’s 2025 touring brochure describes the NT1100 as having “Riding equipment for everyday and on tour” and calls out increased luggage capacity. That combination makes it the most directly positioned for both uses in the cited material. Its fairing and luggage support can be useful on a regular commute as well as on longer rides.
For the UK-market 2026 NT1100, Honda lists a 1,084 cc parallel twin, an 820 mm seat height, a 20.4 L fuel tank and manufacturer-listed consumption of 5.0 L/100 km. Honda lists 238 kg kerb weight before the 12 kg panniers; published weights vary by DCT and DCT ES variant. These are UK figures, not universal specifications. Honda’s US touring lineup separately describes the US NT1100 DCT with a 5.4-gallon tank, sport fairing and adjustable windscreen.

Yamaha TRACER 9: a road-focused sport-tourer
The US-market 2026 TRACER 9 combines a sport-touring orientation with measurable dimensions worth considering for daily use. Yamaha lists 483 lb wet weight, a 5.0-gallon tank and a 33.3- or 33.9-inch seat height, depending on configuration. Yamaha’s 48 mpg figure is an estimate, not a promise of commute mileage.
Do not assume every TRACER 9 includes the GT’s equipment. Yamaha’s separate TRACER 9 GT page describes semi-active electronic suspension and says the GT is “a sportbike when you want, while being equally at home touring with a passenger and luggage.” The GT’s features and price differ from the base model, so compare the exact trim available locally.

Kawasaki Versys 650: a middleweight touring format
Kawasaki’s India page for the 2026 Versys 650 presents it as a motorcycle for carrying a rider, passenger and luggage. It highlights an updated upper cowl and windscreen for greater comfort on longer rides, plus a 4.3-inch full-color display with smartphone connectivity. The page lists an 845 mm seat height, an India-market figure that should not be assumed to apply to other versions.
A separate Kawasaki Ecuador/Latin America 2026 ABS specification sheet lists 482.9 lb curb weight. Because that weight and the feature description come from different regional sources, confirm the local model’s equipment and weight convention rather than treating them as one market specification.

A touring label does not establish how easy a motorcycle will be in stop-and-go traffic. Assess the bike against your route and parking situation, not just its highway equipment.
- Seat reach and low-speed control: Sit on the exact trim and assess the saddle’s width as well as its listed height. Inseam alone does not determine how secure you will feel at a stop.
- Weight and parking: Compare weights only when the measurement convention matches, and account for fuel, luggage and accessories. Think about pushing the bike into your parking space and making a tight U-turn.
- Route and traffic: Filtering, narrow streets, rough pavement, frequent U-turns and long highway stretches place different demands on a bike. If possible, test-ride on a route similar to your commute.
- Weather protection and heat: A fairing and screen may help on exposed roads, but comfort depends on rider, weather and airflow. Assess them in conditions like the ones you expect to ride in.
- Storage: Check whether panniers are included, what top-case and rack options exist, whether luggage can be removed for narrow parking, and what the manufacturer’s load limits allow. Confirm compatibility for the exact motorcycle year, rack, fasteners and case; no single case fitment is established for all three models here.
- Fuel and running costs: Treat manufacturer-listed consumption and estimated mpg as claims, not guaranteed real-world commute results. Include insurance, tyres, servicing and local fuel prices in your budget.
- Transmission and controls: Honda offers market- and trim-specific DCT versions. Compare the local DCT model with manual alternatives in light of your traffic and riding preferences.
- Local availability: Prices, stock and equipment depend on country and trim. Check the local manufacturer or dealer listing before deciding.
Which one makes the most sense?
Choose the NT1100 if everyday equipment, weather protection and luggage capacity are central to your decision and you can manage its size. Consider the TRACER 9 if you want a sportier road character and are comfortable with its taller seat; verify whether the GT’s extra equipment is worth the difference for you. The Versys 650 is a middleweight touring-style option, but its cited India-market seat height makes fit especially important.
Before buying any of them, sit on and, where possible, test-ride the precise local trim. A bike that works on a long open road can still be awkward in your particular traffic, parking space or daily stop-start routine.
