For 2026, the F-150’s standard engine makes 400 hp and 500 lb-ft, while its High Output version makes 450 hp and 510 lb-ft. In the Expedition, the respective ratings are 400 hp and 480 lb-ft, and 440 hp and 510 lb-ft. Ford lists the F-150 High Output engine for the Raptor only.
How much horsepower does a 3.5 EcoBoost have?
Ford’s 2026 ratings differ by vehicle, so use the model-specific figures rather than treating “3.5 EcoBoost” as one fixed output. Ford rates the F-150 and Expedition versions as follows:

Sources: Ford’s 2026 F-150 page and the 2026 Expedition Technical Specifications. These are separate vehicle ratings, not a contradiction: the standard Expedition engine is listed at 480 lb-ft, while the standard F-150 version is listed at 500 lb-ft.
What is the difference between standard and High Output?
In the 2026 F-150, High Output adds 50 hp and 10 lb-ft over the standard 3.5L EcoBoost. In the 2026 Expedition, it adds 40 hp and 30 lb-ft. The rpm ratings also differ in the Expedition: standard-engine peak horsepower is listed at 5,200 rpm, compared with 5,400 rpm for High Output; both torque ratings are listed at 3,300 rpm.

Ford’s Expedition specifications show several shared published entries: both are 3.5-liter, 60-degree V6 engines with twin-turbocharged and intercooled induction, 10.5:1 compression, 20 psi maximum boost pressure, the same bore and stroke, and a 6-quart oil capacity. Shared figures do not establish that every internal component, calibration, or boost-control strategy is identical.
The Expedition table also lists different fuel recommendations and exhaust configurations: regular 87-octane fuel and single exhaust for standard output, versus premium 91+ and dual exhaust for High Output. Ford says its horsepower and torque ratings are based on premium fuel under SAE J1349, results may vary, and maximum horsepower and torque may not occur simultaneously. Follow the recommendation for the specific vehicle and engine.

Which Ford models offer the High Output 3.5 EcoBoost?
For the 2026 F-150, Ford identifies the High Output 3.5L EcoBoost with the Raptor only; the standard engine’s 400-hp rating is a different F-150 application. The 2026 Expedition specification sheet also distinguishes standard and High Output versions, with the applicable trim and configuration determining which rating applies. Check the exact model year and vehicle specification rather than assuming an engine’s availability carries across Ford’s lineup.

Those are 2024 Raptor figures, not a universal rating for every 3.5 EcoBoost or model year.

Does High Output mean the vehicle can tow more?
Not automatically. Ford’s 2026 Expedition technical specifications list maximum conventional towing of up to 9,600 lb for certain standard-engine trims, up to 9,300 lb for the Tremor 4×4 with High Output, and 9,000 lb for the Expedition MAX 4×4 configurations shown. These are configuration-specific maximums, not engine-only capacities. Ford qualifies towing by equipment and vehicle configuration; actual capacity varies with cargo, accessories, and passenger count. Confirm the rating for the exact vehicle and how it is equipped.

How to compare a 3.5 EcoBoost rating
- Start with the model year and vehicle: an F-150 figure is not interchangeable with an Expedition figure.
- Check whether the listing says standard or High Output, then compare horsepower and torque separately.
- For torque or horsepower figures stated with rpm, keep the rpm attached to the rating.
- For towing, use the vehicle’s configuration-specific rating rather than inferring capacity from engine output.
