There is no single winner for every buyer. Compare the exact engine, transmission and trim you would purchase, then use a current dealer quote for your city.
At a glance: Skoda Slavia vs Honda City
| What matters to you | Better place to start | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Turbo-petrol performance | Skoda Slavia | Its updated range offers 1.0L and 1.5L TSI turbo-petrol engines. The Honda City petrol uses a naturally aspirated 1.5L engine. |
| Strong-hybrid option | Honda City | The City is available as a ZX+ e:HEV with a two-motor strong-hybrid system and e-CVT. |
| Automatic transmission choice | Skoda Slavia | The updated Slavia pairs the 1.0 TSI with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic and the 1.5 TSI with a seven-speed DSG. The City offers a CVT for petrol and an e-CVT for the hybrid. |
| Published fuel-efficiency figure | Honda City e:HEV | Honda lists 27.26 km/l for the hybrid. That is a manufacturer-published figure, not a promise of real-world consumption. |
| Driver assistance | Honda City, depending on trim | Honda lists Honda SENSING on petrol and hybrid versions; adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow is specified for the e:HEV. |
| Published coverage details | Skoda Slavia | Skoda says the updated Slavia includes a four-year/100,000-km standard warranty, four years of roadside assistance and four labour-free services. |
These are starting points, not a substitute for matching trims. The updated Slavia’s variants and features differ by trim, and the City’s petrol and hybrid equipment is not identical.

Which car suits your driving priorities?
Choose the Slavia if you want turbo-petrol character
The Slavia’s 1.0L and 1.5L TSI engines are turbocharged, while the City petrol’s 1.5L i-VTEC is naturally aspirated. That makes the Slavia the more obvious shortlist for a buyer prioritising a turbo-petrol powertrain, particularly with the 1.5 TSI. How responsive or engaging either car feels depends on the exact engine and gearbox, so drive the version you intend to buy rather than relying on engine labels alone.
At the time of Škoda Auto India’s announcement on 18 August 2026, final Slavia performance figures and dimensions were still pending homologation. Confirm the final specification for the particular car before comparing power, acceleration or measurements.

Choose the City if a strong hybrid is a priority
The City e:HEV is a two-motor strong hybrid with an e-CVT. Honda describes automatic switching among EV, Hybrid and Engine drive modes, and lists a combined output of 126 PS and 253 Nm. The City petrol produces 121 PS at 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm at 4,300 rpm, according to Honda Cars India. These figures describe different powertrain types; comparing the hybrid’s combined output directly with a petrol engine’s peak output does not settle which car will feel quicker or more suitable in your driving.
The e:HEV is the City variant to consider if you specifically want a hybrid rather than a conventional petrol automatic. Test-drive it in the traffic and at the speeds you normally encounter.
Automatic gearboxes: match the transmission to your routine
| Car and powertrain | Automatic transmission | What to check on a test drive |
|---|---|---|
| Slavia 1.0 TSI | Eight-speed torque converter | Low-speed response, creep and smoothness in stop-start traffic. |
| Slavia 1.5 TSI | Seven-speed DSG | Response and smoothness in the traffic conditions you regularly face. |
| City petrol | CVT | How naturally the engine response and acceleration feel to you in urban and faster driving. |
| City e:HEV | e-CVT | How the hybrid’s drive modes and acceleration suit your daily routes. |
A transmission name cannot tell you which will feel best. During a test drive, try crawling traffic, a junction start, a short overtake and your usual parking manoeuvres. Comfort with the car’s response matters more than choosing by gearbox label alone.

Fuel economy: official figures and a real-world petrol-automatic test
Honda Cars India lists 17.77 km/l for the City petrol manual, 17.97 km/l for the petrol CVT and 27.26 km/l for the e:HEV. These are manufacturer-published mileage figures, not a guarantee of what an individual owner will achieve.
For a direct petrol-automatic comparison, Autocar India’s test published on 21 July 2026 compared the City 1.5 NA CVT with the Slavia 1.0 TSI AT and 1.5 TSI DCT. The City averaged 2.25 km/l more than the Slavia 1.0 TSI AT and 1.75 km/l more than the Slavia 1.5 TSI DCT in that test. The publication used full tanks, manufacturer-recommended tyre pressures, air conditioning, fixed city and highway loops near Navi Mumbai, and periodic driver swaps. Treat those results as one publication’s controlled comparison, not as a prediction for every owner.
Autocar did not include the City e:HEV in that reported petrol-automatic test. Its petrol-automatic results therefore cannot establish how the hybrid would perform against either Slavia. Your fuel consumption will depend on traffic, route, driving style and other conditions.

Safety equipment and crash-rating context
Škoda says the updated Slavia has six airbags as standard across the range and reports a five-star Global NCAP result for adult and child occupant protection. Honda lists Honda SENSING driver-assistance equipment for City petrol and hybrid variants, with adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow specified for the e:HEV.
These facts describe different aspects of safety: airbags and crash-test performance on one hand, and driver-assistance features on the other. Check the equipment on the exact trim you are considering, and compare crash ratings only when their test scope and protocol are comparable. The available claims do not establish a categorical safety winner.
Prices and trim value: compare dated ranges with a local quote
Autocar India’s July 2026 listed petrol-automatic price ranges were:
Rank #4
- 1/24 car in metal
- Vehicle screwed on base, and presented in a flexible blister
- Made by Ixo for Hachette Editions
| Petrol automatic | Listed price range in Autocar India, July 2026 |
|---|---|
| Honda City CVT | ₹14.30–17.15 lakh |
| Skoda Slavia 1.0 TSI AT | ₹14.34–16.69 lakh |
| Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI DCT | ₹18.04–18.19 lakh |
These are dated publication listings, not current on-road quotes. They suggest the City CVT and Slavia 1.0 TSI AT occupy overlapping ranges, while the listed Slavia 1.5 TSI DCT range is higher. Actual prices, available trims, local taxes, dealer offers and on-road charges can change the comparison. Ask dealers in your city to quote the exact variants with the same cost items included.
For the City e:HEV, compare its actual local price with the petrol City and Slavia variants you would otherwise buy. The published petrol-automatic ranges above do not establish a like-for-like hybrid price comparison.

Features, warranty and ownership checks
Slavia equipment varies by trim
Škoda’s August 2026 announcement describes Classic, Classic+, Signature, Sportline, Prestige and Monte Carlo variants planned from the start of sales. Announced updates include new LED lighting, sequential rear indicators, a 360-degree Area View camera, Park Pilot with front sensors, rear-seat massage and revised infotainment. Škoda’s international release describes a 10.1-inch infotainment display and 10.25-inch digital cockpit; its India page describes a 25.6-cm touchscreen and virtual cockpit on selected variants. Confirm which features are fitted to the specific trim and vehicle you are quoted.

Use written ownership terms, not assumptions
Škoda says the updated Slavia comes with a four-year/100,000-km standard warranty, four years of roadside assistance and four labour-free services; the announcement says an optional warranty extension can take coverage to six years. Those published Slavia terms alone do not prove it will cost less to own than the City. Ask Honda for current written warranty and service-plan terms, and request service estimates for both cars. Dealer access and service experience depend on your location.
How to make the final choice
- Choose the powertrain first. Decide whether you want a turbo-petrol, a naturally aspirated petrol or the City’s strong hybrid.
- Compare the exact automatic, if applicable. Drive the Slavia 1.0 TSI torque converter, Slavia 1.5 TSI DSG, City CVT or City e:HEV e-CVT that matches your shortlist.
- Check equipment by trim. Confirm safety features, cameras, infotainment and other features on the quoted vehicle rather than assuming they are standard across a range.
- Get city-specific written quotes. Include taxes, insurance, registration, accessories and any offer in each on-road total.
- Compare ownership terms. Request current warranty, roadside-assistance and service-plan details from both brands, plus service estimates relevant to your location.
For a buyer who values turbo-petrol choice and the updated Slavia’s broader automatic lineup, start with the Slavia. For a buyer who wants a strong hybrid and Honda SENSING equipment, start with the City. A test drive and a matched, current local quote should decide between them.
