Toyota’s newer U.S. materials identify it as a 2028 model and estimate up to 315 miles of range for the larger-battery AWD versions—not 320 miles. Toyota expects those versions in early 2027, with the XLE FWD to follow in mid-2027.
Is the Toyota Highlander going electric?
Yes. Toyota unveiled an all-electric Highlander in February 2026. The newer U.S. announcement calls it the 2028 Toyota Highlander and describes a three-row SUV offered in XLE and Limited grades. It will be assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, according to Toyota’s U.S. announcement.
The nameplate has a long history in the U.S.: Toyota Motor Corporation reported 3.6 million cumulative Highlander sales from 2001 through 2025. That figure covers the Highlander nameplate, not electric-vehicle sales.
How much range will the electric Highlander have?
Toyota’s current U.S. figures are manufacturer estimates, not final EPA-certified ratings. The estimate depends on battery and drivetrain:

Toyota says actual range varies with weather, driving style and other factors. Its February 2026 global announcement had described 320 miles as a development target for the 95.82-kWh AWD specification in EPA mode; the later U.S. estimate for the 95.8-kWh AWD models is 315 miles. The target and estimate are different figures, so 320 miles should not be treated as the current U.S. range claim. See Toyota’s February 2026 global announcement.
When does the 2028 Toyota Highlander EV go on sale?
Toyota expects the larger-battery AWD versions to begin sales in early 2027 and the XLE FWD to arrive in mid-2027. The company’s February global announcement had forecast late 2026 for North American sales, but its newer U.S. timing is the more current schedule. These are announced expectations, not confirmation that vehicles are already available.

Toyota has not announced MSRP in the cited U.S. materials. It also has not published final EPA-certified range, so buyers should wait for those details before comparing purchase prices or official ratings.
How many people can it seat?
The electric Highlander can seat up to seven when equipped with the available second-row bench seat. Toyota has announced XLE and Limited grades; XLE is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, while Limited is AWD.

Toyota’s February 2026 launch materials state combined system output of 221 net horsepower for FWD and 338 net horsepower for AWD. Those figures are Toyota’s specifications for the stated drivetrain configurations.

Charging port and access
Toyota says the Highlander will have a North American Charging System (NACS) port. The announcement does not specify charging-network access details or recommend a particular home charger. Anyone planning a Level 2 home installation should confirm the production vehicle’s requirements and charger compatibility when Toyota releases them.

Cold-weather fast charging
Toyota’s earlier global announcement described battery preconditioning and a rapid-charge development target of about 30 minutes from 10% to 80%. That target was based on a 150-kW (350A) charger and an outside temperature of -10°C; it is not a general charging-time guarantee.
Vehicle-to-load capability
Toyota says the vehicle will offer vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, but bidirectional accessories must be purchased separately. The company has not yet named the accessories or provided further details in the cited materials.
