The 2027 Volvo EX60 looks like a credible comfort-oriented alternative to BMW’s Neue Klasse iX3, but the evidence so far supports promise—not a winner. Car and Driver’s March 2026 first ride was a passenger-only outing at Volvo’s Hällered proving ground, not a driver road test. A separate August comparison by TechRadar found the Volvo more comfort-focused and the BMW more engaging to handle. Buyers can already compare the EX60’s three powertrains and, in the U.S., preliminary range estimates and announced prices; certified EPA figures were still pending in Volvo’s May 2026 announcement.
What the first ride does—and does not—tell us
Car and Driver’s Andrew Wendler reported on March 9, 2026, after riding in an early EX60 at Volvo’s Hällered proving ground. He said the impacts felt “firm-ish but well controlled,” with no impact echoes through the chassis. Abrupt high-speed lane changes did not upset the car, and he found cabin noise, vibration, and harshness well attenuated. Those observations suggest a composed, quiet ride, but they are passenger impressions—not independent measurements or a full road test. Wendler explicitly noted that the team had not yet sat at the helm, so this ride cannot establish steering feel, braking calibration, or how the EX60 performs when driven on public roads. Wendler also described three independently adjustable suspension-firmness settings, separate from steering weight and throttle response. He attributed the adaptive dampers to ZF and the control software to Volvo. That is useful context for the ride impressions, though it does not substitute for a driver’s assessment of the settings or their effects.

The EX60 range comprises rear-wheel-drive P6 and two dual-motor all-wheel-drive models, P10 and P12. Volvo’s UK figures use the WLTP test cycle; its U.S. figures are preliminary estimates based on anticipated EPA testing. These figures are not directly comparable because they use different cycles. Volvo says specifications and feature availability may vary by country and change.

| P12 | Dual motor, all-wheel drive | 680 hp; up to 503 miles | Up to 400 miles |
The UK figures are from Volvo Cars UK’s 2027 overview; U.S. estimates come from Volvo Car USA’s May 18, 2026 announcement. The U.S. release said official EPA figures would follow, so its range numbers should not be described as certified results. Volvo Cars UK’s 2027 EX60 overview; Volvo Car USA’s U.S. announcement.
Car and Driver’s March report gave an earlier, preliminary set of specifications: 369 hp and an 80-kWh usable battery for P6, 503 hp and 91 kWh for P10, and 670 hp and 112 kWh for P12, with a projected 290–400-mile range depending on trim and wheels. Those early figures are distinct from Volvo’s later published figures above; do not combine the two sets as though they were one finalized specification sheet.

Charging: fast claimed stops, with important conditions
For U.S. vehicles, Volvo lists an 800-volt electrical architecture and a native NACS charging port. The company’s preliminary estimates put a 10–80% charge at 16 minutes for P6 and P10 and 19 minutes for P12. Maximum charging power is listed as 320 kW for P6 and 370 kW for P10 and P12. These are manufacturer figures, not a guarantee of the time a driver will see at a particular charger: battery temperature and condition, starting charge, charging hardware, and other conditions affect results.
Volvo Car USA said the U.S. EX60 would have access to more than 29,000 Tesla Supercharger stations. That is the company’s network-access claim from May 2026, not a live station count; drivers should check current availability and compatibility when planning a trip. Volvo’s cited announcement does not establish a comparable BMW charging-time or network figure, so a direct charging-speed winner cannot be called from these figures alone.

What the EX60 brings to the cabin and platform
Car and Driver’s early report described a 15.1-inch curved OLED touchscreen running Google software with Gemini, a 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, a 0.26 drag coefficient, and towing capacity of up to 4,500 pounds when properly equipped. These are specifications reported in that March 2026 account; confirm the final equipment and towing rating for the specific market and configuration before relying on them.
Volvo presents the EX60’s SPA3 platform, cell-to-body construction, megacasting, and HuginCore computing system as core parts of the vehicle’s architecture. It also highlights Google Gemini and a multi-adaptive seat belt. These are Volvo’s technology and safety-feature claims; the cited material does not establish an independent safety rating or long-term reliability record.

EX60 versus BMW Neue Klasse iX3: comfort or handling?
In an August 23, 2026 comparison, TechRadar’s Leon Poultney described the EX60 as oriented toward onboard comfort and the BMW iX3 as more focused on handling. Poultney found the Volvo’s cabin bright and its seats supportive and very comfortable, and said its interface was easy to navigate. He also observed that the landscape touchscreen handles many cabin controls. These are his impressions, not universal findings about every driver or passenger.
Poultney described BMW’s Panoramic iDrive as spreading information along the lower windshield and found its steering-wheel haptic buttons fiddly. That contrast gives buyers a useful interface question to test in person: whether they prefer Volvo’s central-screen approach or BMW’s broader display layout. TechRadar’s EX60 and BMW iX3 comparison.

- Ride and handling: The available comparison favors Volvo for passenger comfort and BMW for sportier handling. A driver-focused EX60 road test is still needed to judge its steering, braking, and cornering character directly.
- Range and charging: Compare the exact local-market trim, test cycle, wheel choice, and charging conditions. The EX60 figures above do not form a same-cycle comparison with an unspecified BMW maximum claim.
- Price and equipment: Match market, date, trim, options, and destination charges. Volvo’s announced U.S. prices are dated May 2026 and do not by themselves establish how the EX60 compares with an equivalently equipped iX3.
- Space and family use: TechRadar described generous space and comfortable family-trip behavior, but the cited comparison did not provide controlled cargo-volume or passenger-space measurements against the BMW.
