Quick answer: which SUV fits which buyer?
The Land Cruiser is the more straightforward choice for a buyer who already knows they want Toyota’s i-FORCE MAX hybrid, full-time four-wheel drive, and serious low-speed traction hardware without working through a large trim matrix. Both 2027 grades include a center locking differential, rear locking differential, two-speed transfer case, and CRAWL Control.
The 4Runner is the more flexible choice. Its 2026 range spans nine grades, from the SR5 to the TRD Pro and Trailhunter, with a 2.4-liter turbocharged gas engine, an available i-FORCE MAX hybrid, and drivetrain layouts that include 2WD, part-time 4WD, and full-time 4WD depending on grade and powertrain.

Toyota publishes a 6,000-pound maximum tow rating for both vehicles. That shared headline number does not mean every version has identical equipment, payload, cooling, handling, or trailer suitability. The exact grade, drivetrain, options, occupants, cargo, and trailer load still matter.
Price and lineup: simplicity versus choice
| Decision point | 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser | 2026 Toyota 4Runner |
|---|---|---|
| Published starting MSRP | $57,880, excluding Toyota’s $1,450 Dealer Processing and Handling fee | $41,570, plus Toyota’s $1,450 Delivery Processing and Handling fee |
| Number of grades | Two: Land Cruiser 1958 and Land Cruiser | Nine: SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter |
The 4Runner has the lower published starting MSRP in the model years shown, with a difference of $16,310 before considering the separate $1,450 processing charges. These are manufacturer-published base prices, not transaction prices, taxes, registration, dealer-installed equipment, destination charges beyond the stated processing amount, financing costs, or negotiated discounts.
Because the model years differ, the prices should be used as shopping context rather than an exact same-year value comparison. A buyer should obtain a window sticker and an out-the-door quote for the specific vehicle being considered.

What the two Land Cruiser grades mean
The Land Cruiser 1958 is the heritage-oriented entry grade. The regular Land Cruiser grade adds comfort and technology equipment. Both retain the core full-time 4WD system and locking-differential hardware, so moving between the two grades is primarily a decision about convenience, design, and equipment rather than giving up the basic traction system.
Why the 4Runner range takes longer to sort out
The 4Runner’s nine-grade strategy covers distinct missions. SR5 provides the entry point. TRD Sport and TRD Sport Premium lean toward road use with additional equipment. TRD Off-Road and TRD Off-Road Premium target trail driving. Limited and Platinum provide more upscale equipment, while TRD Pro and Trailhunter are specialized factory off-road choices. The broad range is useful when you have a precise budget or use case, but it makes the badge alone insufficient: “4Runner” does not identify one drivetrain or one level of trail hardware.
Powertrains: hybrid standard in the Land Cruiser, optional in the 4Runner
| Powertrain | 2027 Land Cruiser | 2026 4Runner |
|---|---|---|
| Gas engine | Not offered; the model is hybrid-only | 2.4-liter turbocharged i-FORCE, up to 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque |
| Hybrid | Turbocharged i-FORCE MAX hybrid, 326 net combined horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque | Available i-FORCE MAX hybrid, up to 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque |
The Land Cruiser removes the gas-versus-hybrid decision because every 2027 example uses the turbocharged i-FORCE MAX hybrid. Its 326 net combined horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque provide the same headline output Toyota lists for the 4Runner’s available i-FORCE MAX.

- Toyota Official Licensed
- Openable doors and hood.
- Custom Off-road Wheels with Rubber tires
- Window box, shipped in a corrugated box
- Pre-assembled, not a building kit, not RC
The 4Runner’s standard i-FORCE engine gives buyers a lower-complexity, lower-entry-price path, while the optional i-FORCE MAX delivers the stronger torque figure and hybrid operation. Toyota’s “up to” wording matters: output and equipment can vary by grade and configuration, so verify the specification for the exact vehicle on the window sticker.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhich powertrain makes sense?
- Pick the Land Cruiser’s standard hybrid when you want maximum torque without paying for a hybrid option separately and prefer every vehicle in the range to have the same basic propulsion system.
- Pick a gas 4Runner when the lower starting price and conventional turbo powertrain are more important than hybrid output.
- Pick a hybrid 4Runner when you want the same published 326-horsepower/465-lb-ft headline output as the Land Cruiser but want to choose among more grades and layouts.
Fuel economy: do not compare unlike EPA figures
Toyota lists the 2027 Land Cruiser at an EPA-estimated 23 mpg combined. For the 2026 4Runner, Toyota reports up to 26 mpg highway for the i-FORCE engine and up to 24 mpg highway for i-FORCE MAX.
Those numbers use different test categories. A combined rating includes city and highway driving; a highway rating does not. You cannot conclude from these announcements that the 4Runner is more efficient overall, or that the Land Cruiser is less efficient in every situation. Compare the EPA city, highway, and combined ratings for the exact grades and drivetrains on your shortlist before making fuel cost part of the decision.
Drivetrain: full-time 4WD standard versus a mix of layouts
| Drivetrain decision | 2027 Land Cruiser | 2026 4Runner |
|---|---|---|
| Full-time 4WD | Standard across both grades | Available according to grade; Toyota identifies Limited and Platinum as full-time 4WD models |
| Part-time 4WD | Not the stated Land Cruiser configuration | Available in the lineup depending on grade and powertrain |
| 2WD | Not offered in the stated 2027 lineup | Available in selected configurations |
| Hybrid drivetrain availability | Standard | i-FORCE MAX models come standard with 4WD |
Full-time 4WD can drive all four wheels continuously, which is convenient when road conditions change between dry pavement, rain, snow, and dirt. The Land Cruiser includes that arrangement on every grade, so you do not have to choose a particular trim to obtain it.
The 4Runner’s variety is useful if you spend most of your time on pavement and want 2WD, or if you prefer the selectable behavior of part-time 4WD. It also creates a configuration-checking requirement: confirm the drivetrain on the actual vehicle rather than assuming that a 4Runner badge guarantees full-time 4WD.
Off-road hardware: standard Land Cruiser equipment and 4Runner specialization
Land Cruiser equipment
Toyota lists the following as standard on both 2027 Land Cruiser grades:
Rank #3
- High-Quality Materials:The Toyota Land Cruiser die-cast car is made of zinc alloy, plastic parts and rubber tires, making it safe for children to play with.It features detailed interior and exterior trim, and is very sturdy.
- Function:No batteries are required, but the vehicle has a powerful pull back feature. Simply pull it back, then release your hand, and the car will go for a long distance. The doors may be opened to view the whole inside of the vehicle. So appealing to children and collectors alike.

- Ideal Christmas Festival Gift:All of TOKAXI die-cast model cars are attractively packaged in English, making them the perfect Christmas, Birthday, Children's Day, New Year gift for kids, party favors, home decorations, or travel toys for boys and girls.gifts for boys girls.
- Full-time 4WD
- Center locking differential
- Rear locking differential
- Two-speed transfer case
- CRAWL Control
A front stabilizer disconnect mechanism and Multi-Terrain Monitor are available, with availability varying by grade. If either feature is important, confirm whether it is standard, optional, or included in a package on the particular Land Cruiser you are pricing.
4Runner equipment
The 2026 4Runner uses its grade structure to separate trail hardware. Toyota identifies an electronic locking rear differential as standard on TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter. Multi-Terrain Select, CRAWL Control, and related equipment vary by grade.
That arrangement can be an advantage when you want to pay for a particular off-road package rather than receive the same hardware on every vehicle. It can also create an easy shopping mistake: a lower or road-focused 4Runner may not have the same locking differential or drive modes as a TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, or Trailhunter.
What the shared TNGA-F platform does—and does not—tell you
Toyota says the 2027 Land Cruiser rides on its TNGA-F global truck platform, shared with Tundra, Sequoia, Tacoma, and 4Runner. A common platform indicates related structural architecture, but it does not prove identical ride quality, suspension tuning, approach angles, durability, cabin isolation, or trail performance. Those characteristics depend on the complete vehicle, including wheel and tire package, suspension, locking systems, calibration, weight, and equipment.
Towing: equal published maximum, different shopping questions
Toyota gives both the 2027 Land Cruiser and 2026 4Runner a maximum tow rating of 6,000 pounds. That makes the published model-level maximum a tie, but it should not end the analysis.
Before buying, verify the tow rating for the exact VIN or configuration and compare it with the loaded trailer, passengers, cargo, tongue weight, and hitch equipment you plan to use. A trailer’s advertised empty weight is not its travel weight. Owner information and the vehicle’s certification label are the appropriate references for the final combination.

- High-quality car model: Package size: 10.08×5.51×5.28 in. package weight: 1.38 pounds. Made of zinc alloy, plastic and electronics. Safe material. Suitable for children as well as adults to play.
- Cool light and sound: There is a three-position switch on the bottom of the car. When in the middle gear, the front and rear lights are on continuously. When in the sound gear, pressing on the front of the car triggers sound and light effects, pressing the horn also makes a realistic horn sound.
- Exquisite design:It has detailed interior. The doors, hood and trunk can be opened. Mirrors can be folded. The wheels simulates shock absorption.
- Interesting pull back car: Put the car on the ground, press and hold the car body, then pull back, it will drive forward. Very funny.
- Awesome Gift: The car toy is perfect for birthdays, Christmas gifts, party and cake decorations. It can be a valuable reward gift for kids. It is also good for model car collectors.
When the shared rating is enough to narrow the choice
If your trailer is comfortably below 6,000 pounds and your deciding factors are price, drivetrain, or grade equipment, either SUV can remain on the shortlist. If you tow near the limit, carry a full passenger and cargo load, or travel in steep terrain, select the exact vehicle first and then verify its ratings rather than shopping from the 6,000-pound headline alone.

Which SUV fits common buyer priorities?
You want the simplest serious off-road specification
Start with the Land Cruiser. Its two grades both include full-time 4WD, center and rear lockers, a two-speed transfer case, and CRAWL Control. You still need to check available front stabilizer disconnect and camera equipment, but the core drivetrain decision is already made.
You want the lowest published entry price
Start with the 2026 4Runner SR5 and compare the actual drivetrain and equipment. Its $41,570 published starting MSRP is lower than the Land Cruiser’s $57,880 starting MSRP, although the figures belong to different model years and carry Toyota’s separately described $1,450 processing charges.
You want a hybrid but dislike a two-grade lineup
Consider the 4Runner i-FORCE MAX range. It provides Toyota’s listed 326-horsepower and 465-lb-ft figures while allowing a choice among more 4Runner grades. Hybrid 4Runner models come standard with 4WD, but grade-specific equipment still differs.
You want 2WD for mostly paved driving
The 4Runner is the only fit of these two lineups because Toyota offers 2WD in selected 2026 configurations. The Land Cruiser’s stated 2027 range is full-time 4WD only.

The Land Cruiser makes that requirement easy: full-time 4WD is standard on both grades. In the 4Runner range, Toyota identifies Limited and Platinum as full-time 4WD choices, while other grades use different layouts depending on configuration.
Best Value
- Brand new box. Real rubber tires. True-to-scale detail. Has steerable wheels. Detailed interior, exterior. Officially licensed product. Made of diecast with some plastic parts. Has pull-back action to make the car move. Has opening hood, four doors and rear gate. Manufacturer's original unopened packaging. Dimensions approximately L-8, W-4, H-3.25 inches.
- Material: Metal
You want the widest choice of factory missions
The 4Runner wins on breadth. Its nine grades cover an entry model, sport-oriented versions, trail-focused TRD models, premium trims, and the TRD Pro and Trailhunter. The trade-off is that you must decode the grade, engine, drivetrain, and options together.
You plan to carry overland or roof cargo
Toyota lists an available roof rack for the 2027 Land Cruiser. Treat any rack as part of the vehicle’s total payload and roof-load calculation, and verify the rack’s exact fit, mounting system, and load rating for the model year and grade you purchase.
A practical buying process
- Set the model-year boundary. Decide whether you are shopping the 2027 Land Cruiser against the 2026 4Runner now, or whether you can wait for Toyota to publish complete 2027 4Runner details. Do not treat unannounced 2027 4Runner specifications as carryover facts.
- Choose the propulsion requirement. If hybrid is mandatory, the Land Cruiser qualifies automatically; with the 4Runner, select an i-FORCE MAX model. If a gas engine is preferred, only the 4Runner provides that option in this comparison.
- Choose the drivetrain. Select full-time 4WD, part-time 4WD, or 2WD based on your roads, climate, and trail use. Confirm the actual configuration on the window sticker.
- Match hardware to terrain. Check for center and rear lockers, the electronic locking rear differential, CRAWL Control, Multi-Terrain Select, Multi-Terrain Monitor, and the front stabilizer disconnect mechanism. Availability is grade-specific.
- Calculate the real tow and payload load. Add passengers, luggage, hitch equipment, rack weight, and trailer tongue weight. Compare the result with the vehicle’s certification labels and owner information.
- Compare like-for-like fuel ratings. Use EPA ratings for the exact engine and drivetrain. Do not compare the Land Cruiser’s combined figure with a 4Runner highway figure.
- Price the vehicle you can actually buy. Add Toyota’s stated processing fee, destination and dealer charges shown on the quote, taxes, registration, and options. A base MSRP is not an out-the-door price.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Calling this a 2027-versus-2027 comparison. Toyota’s published information covers a 2027 Land Cruiser and 2026 4Runner.
- Assuming every 4Runner has the same 4WD system. The 2026 lineup includes 2WD, part-time 4WD, and full-time 4WD configurations.
- Assuming every Land Cruiser has the same optional equipment. The core lockers and transfer case are standard on both grades, but the front stabilizer disconnect and Multi-Terrain Monitor vary by grade.
- Comparing 23 mpg combined with 26 mpg highway. These are different EPA rating bases and cannot establish an overall efficiency winner.
- Treating 6,000 pounds as a universal trailer recommendation. It is a published maximum; the specific vehicle and loaded combination determine what is appropriate.
- Using shared-platform language as a performance guarantee. TNGA-F relates the vehicles structurally but does not make their suspension, handling, or trail behavior identical.
Bottom-line decision
The 2027 Land Cruiser is the better fit for a buyer who values a focused, hybrid-only specification and wants full-time 4WD with center and rear lockers standard on either grade. It reduces configuration decisions while keeping the core off-road system consistent.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The 2026 4Runner is the better fit for a buyer who values choice: a lower published starting MSRP, nine grades, a gas or hybrid powertrain, and multiple drivetrain layouts. It can be tailored more closely to a road-oriented, premium, trail, or overlanding brief, but the buyer must verify the exact equipment.
For towing, neither has a published maximum advantage because Toyota rates both at 6,000 pounds. For fuel economy, wait for matching EPA ratings for the exact configurations. And because Toyota had not published complete 2027 4Runner specifications in its official U.S. information, revisit the decision when those details arrive if a same-model-year matchup matters.
