One important correction: Mercedes-Benz calls the standard display setup the MBUX Superscreen, not Hyperscreen. The new sedan also brings updated software, lighting and driver-assistance technology, though equipment and feature availability vary by market and model.
What’s new in the 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?
Mercedes-Benz says more than 50 percent of the S-Class’s parts—around 2,700 components—are new or updated. That figure is the automaker’s description of the refresh, not an independent component count. The changes span its cabin displays and software, engine range, lighting and assistance systems.
The world premiere took place January 29, 2026. Mercedes-Benz said online configuration and ordering opened the following day. Its German press-kit starting price is €121,356.20 gross, including 19 percent VAT, for the S 350 d 4MATIC saloon. That is a Germany-specific price, not a global starting price or a complete regional price list. Mercedes-Benz Media’s S-Class press kit provides the launch specifications.
Does the new S-Class have a Hyperscreen?
No—not by the name Mercedes-Benz uses for this car. The manufacturer calls the standard arrangement the MBUX Superscreen. It places a 14.4-inch central display and a 12.3-inch front-passenger display beneath a continuous glass surface. A separate 12.3-inch instrument cluster sits in front of the driver; a 3D version is optional.

The passenger display has a camera-based privacy function. Whether passengers may use its entertainment features while the car is moving depends on country-specific rules. Rear-seat entertainment is separate equipment: Mercedes-Benz describes an available MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment setup with two 13.1-inch screens, detachable remote controls and integrated video conferencing. The press-kit description does not establish that this rear system is standard in every market or trim.
What does the flat-plane V8 offer?
The headline engine is specific to the S 580 4MATIC long-wheelbase saloon. Mercedes-Benz rates its M 177 Evo V8 at 395 kW (537 hp) and 750 Nm. The manufacturer says the engine uses a flat-plane crankshaft and a new firing order, alongside revisions to injection, intake and exhaust ports, the intake camshaft, compressor wheel and turbocharger housing. It also has mild-hybrid technology.
Those are Mercedes-Benz specifications and engineering claims, not independently verified performance results. The flat-plane V8 is not a description of every S-Class: the announced range also includes six-cylinder petrol engines, six-cylinder diesels and a plug-in hybrid. Mercedes-Benz lists the plug-in hybrid’s electric range at around 100 km; the applicable test cycle and local specification should be checked in the market where the car is sold.
How have the screens and software changed?
The Superscreen is part of a broader software update. Mercedes-Benz says the car runs fourth-generation MBUX on its MB.OS operating system, which connects vehicle systems. The automaker describes an enhanced Zero Layer interface, Google Maps-based navigation and more than 40 installable apps.

The “Hey Mercedes” virtual assistant is described as using generative AI, supporting multi-turn conversation and retaining short-term memory. Mercedes-Benz also says over-the-air updates can update numerous functions. These are the manufacturer’s stated capabilities; app availability and connected services may depend on country, account and equipment.
What chassis, lighting and safety features are listed?
Suspension and steering
Mercedes-Benz lists AIRMATIC suspension and optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL. Rear-axle steering is standard with a 4.5-degree steering angle; an optional system increases that to as much as 10 degrees, according to the press kit. Equipment can differ by version and market.

Lighting
The next-generation DIGITAL LIGHT system uses micro-LED technology. Mercedes-Benz says its high-resolution illumination field is about 40 percent larger than that of the predecessor system and lists high-beam reach of up to 600 metres. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.
Airbags
The press kit describes configurations with up to 15 airbags. The number is a maximum, not a guarantee that every S-Class has the same airbag fit-out; local configuration matters.
Where is MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO available?
Mercedes-Benz describes MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO as providing point-to-point driving assistance in dense urban traffic. It is not a claim of autonomous driving. Availability is market-dependent: the company says it is available in China at market start, with the United States to follow later and other markets subject to local regulation. A February 2026 company communication also said China first and the U.S. later in 2026. Buyers should confirm local availability and the exact functions offered for their vehicle.
What should buyers compare across versions?
The launch material does not provide a complete regional price matrix or a full competitor comparison. For a market-specific decision, compare the actual vehicle configuration on these points:
