The 2026 Subaru Uncharted is a compact electric crossover jointly developed with Toyota, offered in the U.S. with a lower-priced front-wheel-drive model and more powerful all-wheel-drive trims. “A little WRX” works as subjective shorthand for its sporty look and responsive road manners—not as a claim that it uses WRX engineering or parts. The choice is straightforward: prioritize price and the longest EPA-estimated range with the Premium FWD, or pay more for AWD power and Subaru traction features.
What is the Subaru Uncharted, and how does Toyota fit in?
Subaru Corporation says the Uncharted was jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru. It is related to the Toyota C-HR, but buyers should compare the actual trim and drivetrain rather than assume the two vehicles are identical. The Uncharted gives Subaru a smaller electric SUV alongside the Solterra and Trailseeker.
The WRX comparison is best understood as a description of character, not lineage. Reviews describe responsive handling, particularly in the AWD models, but the reviewed sources do not establish WRX-derived components or engineering. Subaru Corporation’s July 18, 2025 announcement describes the joint development.

Specifications and starting prices are from Subaru’s 2026 trim comparison; range estimates are reported in Edmunds’ 2026 first-drive review. The figures make the main trade-off visible: the FWD Premium has the highest cited range and lowest listed price, while Sport and GT add AWD and 117 hp. The GT’s larger wheels correspond to a lower reported range estimate than the Sport’s 18-inch-wheel configuration.
What does it feel like on the road?
Edmunds describes the Uncharted as more responsive on curving roads than the larger Solterra and Trailseeker. It also reports that expansion joints can be more noticeable, which it associates with the Uncharted’s shorter wheelbase. These are reviewer impressions, not guarantees for every road or driver.

The Drive reports 8.2 inches of ground clearance and describes an AWD Uncharted using X-MODE on a wet off-road route. That account is one outlet’s experience, not proof of a particular capability in all conditions. The Drive also notes that the car does not offer a true one-pedal driving mode.
What do you give up for the smaller footprint?
Edmunds calls the Uncharted the smallest of Subaru’s three electric SUVs and reports 3.1 fewer inches of rear legroom than the Solterra or Trailseeker. That makes the smaller body and responsive driving character a more compelling fit for buyers who do not regularly need maximum rear-seat space. If you often carry adult passengers in back, sit in the Uncharted and the larger Subaru alternatives before choosing.

What should you know about range and charging?
The cited EPA estimates vary by drivetrain and wheel configuration: Edmunds reports 308 miles for FWD, 287 miles for AWD with 18-inch wheels, and 273 miles for the 20-inch-wheel GT. These are estimates, not promised trip distances. Subaru’s earlier development release cited a 74.7-kWh battery and estimated more than 300 miles for FWD and more than 280 miles for AWD; those were development estimates, not the trim-specific EPA values above.
The Uncharted has a standard NACS charging port. Subaru’s July 2025 development release estimated a 10–80% charge in about 30 minutes using a 150-kW charger at -10°C. The Drive separately reports a maximum charging rate of 150 kW and a best-case time as low as 28 minutes. Charging time varies with battery and ambient temperature, charger performance, and conditions, so neither figure should be treated as a guaranteed stop duration.

For home charging, a Level 2 charger is a relevant option for overnight charging. Before buying equipment, check that its connector works with the vehicle or an included compatible adapter, that your home electrical service can support it, and what installation will require. No particular charger model has been established as a tested or endorsed match. Tom’s Guide recorded a 3.4 mi/kWh average over 150.8 miles in its test of a Uncharted GT; that is one outlet’s result, not an official rating or a universal real-world figure. - Choose Premium FWD if listed price and the longest cited EPA range matter more than AWD traction and power.
- Consider Sport if you want dual-motor AWD, 338 hp, X-MODE, and the 18-inch-wheel range estimate rather than the GT’s larger wheels and extra equipment.
- Consider GT if its panoramic glass roof, Harman Kardon audio, and 20-inch wheels justify the higher listed price and the lower cited EPA range estimate for your needs.
- Compare with Solterra or Trailseeker if rear-seat room is a priority; Edmunds reports less rear legroom in the Uncharted.
