The hybrid delivers stronger output and substantially better estimated fuel economy, while gasoline versions remain the better choice for maximum towing and the X-Pro’s off-road equipment.
Kia unveiled the U.S.-market Telluride on March 10, 2026. Final EPA labels, dealer inventory and equipment can differ from these published estimates, so verify the window sticker and vehicle build before ordering.
What is new on the 2027 Kia Telluride?
This is a clean-sheet second generation rather than a minor facelift. Kia describes the exterior as “chiseled,” with styling inspired by the Rocky Mountains and the Colorado town that gives Telluride its name. The redesign also targets a more upscale cabin and greater practicality.
- Wheelbase: 116.9 inches, 2.7 inches longer than before.
- Overall length: 199.2 inches, an increase of 2.3 inches.
- More interior and cargo room than the outgoing generation.
- Gasoline models seat seven or eight; the listed hybrid configurations seat seven.
“The 2027 Telluride is a capable and sophisticated SUV that embodies our approach to bringing innovative, consumer-focused products to market,” said SeungKyu (Sean) Yoon, president and CEO of Kia North America and Kia America.

Powertrains: gasoline simplicity or the new hybrid
| Powertrain | Engine and electric hardware | Transmission | Output |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gasoline | 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder | Not stated in the published overview | 274 hp |
| HEV | 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, 1.65-kWh lithium-ion battery and electric motors | Six-speed automatic; front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive | 329 hp and 339 lb-ft |
The hybrid’s combined output is 38 hp and 77 lb-ft higher than the previous Telluride’s 291-hp, 262-lb-ft V6. The battery is relatively compact, so this is a conventional hybrid rather than a plug-in model; Kia has not described an external charging requirement for the HEV.
Fuel economy, cargo space and seating
Kia’s figures are official estimates, not independent test results. The exact rating depends on drivetrain and trim.
| Configuration | Estimated fuel economy | Seating | Cargo behind 3rd row | Behind 2nd row | Behind 1st row |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HEV EX FWD | 35 mpg combined (34 city/36 highway) | 7 | 21.3 cu. ft. | 47.7 cu. ft. | 88.3 cu. ft. |
| HEV SX FWD | 33 mpg combined | 7 | 21.3 cu. ft. | 47.7 cu. ft. | 88.3 cu. ft. |
| HEV AWD trims | 31 mpg combined | 7 | 21.3 cu. ft. | 47.7 cu. ft. | 88.3 cu. ft. |
| Gasoline FWD | 22 mpg combined | 7 or 8 | 22.3 cu. ft. | 48.7 cu. ft. | 89.3 cu. ft. |
| Most gasoline AWD trims | 20 mpg combined | 7 or 8 | 22.3 cu. ft. | 48.7 cu. ft. | 89.3 cu. ft. |
| Gasoline X-Pro AWD | 19 mpg combined | 7 or 8 | 22.3 cu. ft. | 48.7 cu. ft. | 89.3 cu. ft. |
The gasoline model retains a small cargo-volume advantage in every listed measurement. The hybrid’s higher efficiency is therefore accompanied by slightly less published cargo capacity and seven-passenger seating in the configurations announced so far.

Towing and X-Pro capability
Gasoline Tellurides can tow up to 5,000 pounds. The HEV is rated for up to 4,500 pounds, a 500-pound reduction that matters when choosing a boat, camper or utility trailer. Use the vehicle-specific rating and required equipment rather than assuming every trim can tow the maximum.

What the gasoline X-Pro adds
- 9.1 inches of ground clearance.
- Wider all-terrain tires.
- An electronic limited-slip differential.
- Multi-terrain all-wheel-drive controls.
X-Pro hardware is concentrated in gasoline AWD versions in Kia’s published specifications. The hybrid improves everyday efficiency but is not the substitute for an X-Pro when clearance, tire choice and traction programming are the priority.
2027 Kia Telluride pricing
Kia’s published gasoline MSRP range starts below $40,000 and reaches the mid-$50,000s. AWD, X-Line and X-Pro variants occupy the middle of the ladder; Kia notes that equipment and specifications can change without notice.

Choose the HEV for commuting efficiency
The HEV makes the most sense for drivers who spend heavily on fuel, want stronger acceleration than the old V6 and do not need the gasoline model’s maximum tow rating. FWD delivers the best published hybrid estimate; AWD trades some efficiency for additional traction.
Choose gasoline for towing, cargo and seating flexibility
The gasoline powertrain offers the highest tow rating, slightly more cargo volume and the choice of seven- or eight-passenger seating. It is also the path to the X-Pro equipment package.

Choose X-Pro for rougher travel
X-Pro is aimed at dirt roads, ruts and loose surfaces rather than maximum fuel economy. Its extra clearance, all-terrain tires, limited-slip differential and terrain controls are meaningful hardware changes, not just appearance details.
Choose FWD or AWD deliberately
FWD costs less and is the efficiency leader in both the gasoline and hybrid lineups. AWD is the more appropriate configuration for regular snow, steep unpaved roads or additional low-speed traction, but it carries an estimated fuel-economy penalty.
