What is the reported problem?
The reported issue is at the point where the taillight wiring harness passes through the vehicle body. Carscoops says the grommet may not be fully seated, which could allow water to enter the taillight. This is a reported condition for some 2027 Bolt vehicles in dealership inventory, not evidence that every new Bolt has the problem.
Carscoops identifies the action as a service update rather than a safety recall and says it applies to dealer inventory, excluding vehicles already delivered to customers. The report does not provide the underlying GM bulletin or a VIN range, so a dealer must confirm whether a particular vehicle is covered.

- Fold down the rear seats and inspect the grommet through the rear-seat latch-striker openings.
- Spray the taillights with water for at least one minute.
- If water seeps through the grommet, remove the affected taillight assembly and reseat the grommet into the sheet metal.
- Repeat the water test to check that the leak has been corrected.
This is a report of a dealer procedure, not a DIY repair guide. The specific GM instructions and the procedure’s applicability to individual vehicles have not been independently confirmed.
Is this the same as the 2027 Bolt recall?
No. NHTSA campaign 26V114 is a separate action concerning certain 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EVs and other vehicles. Its recall record says the radio may not be set correctly to download the electronic owner’s manual; the listed remedy is a dealer radio reset. NHTSA lists 5,482 potentially affected vehicles across multiple models, not 5,482 Bolts. See NHTSA campaign 26V114.

The older GM bulletin for 2017–2020 Bolt EV rear cargo-area water leaks is also separate. It lists mis-positioned grommets among possible causes, but does not establish that the reported 2027 taillight condition is the same defect or uses the same repair. Read the older NHTSA-hosted bulletin.
What should a Bolt shopper do?
If you are considering a 2027 Bolt still on a dealer lot, ask the Chevrolet dealer to check the VIN for applicable service actions and confirm whether the reported taillight inspection and any needed repair have been completed. If the vehicle is being sold as certified pre-owned, ask the dealer to confirm its CPO status: Carscoops reports that affected CPO inventory is de-certified until inspected and, if necessary, repaired.

For official safety-recall status, check the vehicle by VIN with NHTSA’s recall lookup or ask a Chevrolet dealer. NHTSA says safety recall repairs at a manufacturer dealership are free; that general recall guidance does not establish whether this separate service update is free. Since the GM bulletin and VIN scope for the taillight report are not available in the cited coverage, a recall lookup alone may not settle whether a vehicle needs this service update.

Carscoops also reports a $27,600 starting price, excluding a $1,395 destination fee, and planned production of 35,000 vehicles versus an initial plan of 150,000. Those figures are reported by the outlet and are not needed to determine whether a specific car has had the taillight work completed.
