The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker makes a strong case for buyers who want an electric SUV with standard all-wheel drive and adventure-oriented equipment. Subaru lists 375 horsepower, more than 280 miles of available range, and an estimated 10–80% fast charge in about 28 minutes. Those numbers make it a credible challenger, not a proven champion: there is no matched test here against rival electric SUVs, and one reviewer’s week in a Touring model surfaced trade-offs in highway noise and infotainment usability.
What is the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker?
The Trailseeker is a two-row, all-electric Subaru SUV with dual motors and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Subaru’s current U.S. model page lists 375 horsepower, 8.5 inches of ground clearance, X-MODE, and roof rails. That combination points to a more outdoors-oriented brief than a conventional road-focused electric crossover, but the equipment alone does not establish capability on difficult off-road trails.
It is closely related to the Toyota bZ Woodland. Cars.com describes the two as sharing broad architecture and equipment, including dual-motor AWD, two rows, roof rails, X-MODE, and a 14-inch touchscreen. The Trailseeker’s identity is therefore less about an entirely distinct EV formula than Subaru applying its familiar all-weather and adventure positioning to an electric SUV.
How much range does the Trailseeker get?
Subaru’s current U.S. product page says available range is above 280 miles. Treat that as a manufacturer figure, not a guarantee for every trim or driving condition. Range varies with factors such as speed, temperature, terrain, tires, and use of climate control.

Published range figures have changed as the vehicle moved from reveal to retail materials. Subaru’s April 2025 reveal gave a preliminary estimate of more than 260 miles; its December 2025 pricing announcement described approximately 280 miles; current product material says more than 280 miles is available. Those figures reflect different product stages, so the current specification is the most relevant starting point, while buyers should check the current estimate for the exact trim.
In a week-long test of a Touring, Tom’s Guide reviewer John Velasco reported driving 226.9 miles and averaging 3.7 miles per kWh. The outlet’s specification table lists 274 miles of range for that tested vehicle. This is one reviewer’s result and not a controlled all-weather comparison or a promise of typical real-world range.

How quickly does it charge?
Subaru estimates about 28 minutes for a 10–80% DC fast charge. Charging time depends on the charger, battery temperature and other conditions; the estimate should not be read as a fixed stop time in every trip.
The Trailseeker has a standard NACS port, and Subaru says it can access more than 25,000 Tesla Superchargers. Subaru also lists battery preconditioning for cold-weather charging. The car includes an L1/L2 charging cable and NACS adapters according to the current trim comparison, which may cover some home or destination charging needs. Check the included equipment and compatibility for the vehicle and charging setup you plan to use.

The table reflects Subaru’s trim comparison accessed October 7, 2026. The December 2025 pricing announcement introduced the Trailseeker with a $39,995 starting MSRP and three trims—Premium, Limited, and Touring. The current comparison includes a fourth listing, Touring Leather, so shoppers should rely on the current trim sheet and retailer listings for what is actually offered.

What did the first drive find?
Tom’s Guide’s John Velasco spent a week driving a Touring. He described its handling as agile and acceleration as strong, and reported a 4.4-second 0–60 mph time in the outlet’s specifications. His tested price was $48,400 against a listed $46,555 MSRP. These are observations and figures for one Touring test, not a head-to-head result against an EV rival.
The same review noted highway cabin noise, a loud panoramic-roof mechanism, and an infotainment interface that relies on menus. These are worth checking during a test drive: spend time at highway speed, operate the roof, and try common controls on the touchscreen rather than judging the interface from its screen size alone.

Is the Trailseeker good off-road?
Standard AWD, X-MODE, roof rails, and 8.5 inches of ground clearance give the Trailseeker useful ingredients for bad-weather roads, dirt access routes, and outdoor trips. They do not prove that it is suited to extreme rock crawling or sustained demanding trails. Subaru’s April 2025 reveal listed towing capacity up to 3,500 pounds, but that was an earlier product-stage specification; confirm the current rating and applicable equipment for the exact vehicle before towing.
For a buyer whose idea of adventure means reaching a trailhead, handling snow, or carrying outdoor gear, the specification mix is relevant. For frequent towing or challenging off-road use, verify the current tow rating, route suitability, and vehicle limits rather than assuming the branding or ground clearance settles the question.
How should buyers compare it with electric SUV rivals?
The Toyota bZ Woodland is the most direct comparison identified in the available coverage because of its close relationship and overlapping equipment. To decide between them—or assess the Trailseeker against other electric SUVs—compare equivalent trims and focus on the details that change ownership, not just headline horsepower.
- Price and included equipment: Compare current transaction prices and the features bundled at each trim, including charging accessories.
- Range and efficiency: Match the same kind of official range and efficiency figures by trim; do not treat one vehicle’s single-drive result as directly comparable to another’s EPA rating.
- Charging: Check the port, network access, charge-rate specifications, and charge-time conditions for each vehicle.
- Space and utility: Cars.com flags interior dimensions as an area buyers should check. Bring passengers or cargo representative of your use and assess the cabin and cargo layout in person.
- Driving and noise: A comparable route can reveal differences in ride, acceleration response, highway noise, and interface usability.
- Terrain and towing: Compare ground clearance, AWD and terrain modes, and verified tow ratings against the roads and loads you actually expect.
Without equivalent vehicles tested under the same conditions, the Trailseeker cannot be declared a winner over current EV champions. Its published specifications make it a serious option for AWD-focused buyers; whether it is the better buy depends on how its range, charging, packaging, and driving experience fit their priorities.
