The 2026 Subaru BRZ GT300 switches from the EJ20 four-cylinder used through the 2025 season to a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six based on the Alcyone SVX’s EG33. It is not an unchanged production engine pulled from an old SVX: the race unit is a purpose-built development, with a different displacement and competition-specific hardware.
What engine is in the 2026 Subaru BRZ GT300?
Subaru says the GT300’s EJ20 campaign ended after the 2025 SUPER GT season. For 2026, the car moves to a water-cooled, 2,932 cc twin-turbo flat-six based on the EG33 from the Alcyone SVX. Subaru lists output at more than 500 PS at 7,000 rpm on its 2026 BRZ GT300 vehicle profile.
The 2026 car is entered in SUPER GT’s GT300 class and operated by R&D SPORT. Subaru names Takuto Iguchi and Hideki Yamauchi as drivers and Shunji Okumoto as reserve in its January 9, 2026 motorsport announcement.
Is it the original SVX engine?
No. The SVX connection is the engine’s lineage, not a claim that Subaru installed an intact, decades-old road engine in the racer. Subaru describes the unit as based on the SVX’s EG33; specialist reporting by Auto Prove characterizes it as a newly designed race engine built around EG principles, including a new block and cylinder heads.

The production SVX’s naturally aspirated EG33 displaced 3,318 cc. The GT300 engine is listed at 2,932 cc and uses twin turbochargers. Motor Fan reports that the racer’s bore and stroke are 90.0 × 76.8 mm, versus 96.9 × 75.0 mm for the original EG33; those dimensions are specialist reporting, not figures in Subaru’s vehicle profile.

How the race car’s drivetrain differs
Subaru’s profile lists the GT300 as front-engine and rear-wheel drive, paired with a Hewland six-speed sequential transmission: six forward gears and one reverse, shifted by paddles. The 500-PS-plus figure belongs to this race-car specification; it should not be read as a specification for the showroom BRZ.

Manufacturer's original unopened packaging. Made of diecast metal with some plastic parts. Dimensions approximately L-2.625 inches long.
The 2026 U.S.-market road BRZ specification lists a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. That production car and the GT300 racer are separate vehicles with different powertrains, as shown in the 2026 Subaru BRZ specifications.
Why Subaru changed from the EJ20
Subaru says the increase in displacement and move to more cylinders are intended to improve engine performance and strengthen competitiveness while developing the BRZ’s cornering strengths. The official profile also notes revised intercooler packaging and front aerodynamic parts, aimed at higher output, better cooling performance and endurance reliability.
