Rivian estimates 0–60 mph in 2.5 seconds for the R1T and 2.6 seconds for the R1S, but only with Launch mode and 22-inch road wheels and tires. Both use the standard Max battery; the EPA-estimated range is up to 374 miles, depending on wheel and tire configuration. At the 2026 U.S. launch, the R1T Quad started at $115,990 and the R1S Quad at $121,990.
What is new about the Gen 2 Quad?
The Quad uses four independently controlled motors—two at the front and two at the rear. Rivian says the motors are designed and built by the company. Compared with the previous Quad, output rises from 835 to 1,025 hp and torque from 908 to 1,198 lb-ft, according to Edmunds’ first drive. Rivian positions it as the quickest R1 variant.
The changes are not just about straight-line speed. Rivian says Quad models include RAD Tuner, which lets drivers create and save custom drive modes, and Kick Turn, a Quad-only feature intended to help execute tight turns on dirt or gravel by managing power to the inner wheels. The Quad also includes an air compressor, reinforced underbody shield, Dynamic Glass Roof, Premium Audio and Darkout Package, according to Rivian’s launch announcement.

How quick is the 2026 Quad?
Rivian’s quickest published estimates are 2.5 seconds from 0–60 mph for the R1T and 2.6 seconds for the R1S. Both depend on Launch mode and the 22-inch road-wheel-and-tire setup. Rivian cautions that results vary with configuration and conditions, so these are manufacturer estimates rather than universal or independently timed results. Edmunds says its media event did not include opportunities to use Launch mode; its first-drive coverage therefore does not independently verify those acceleration times.
In ordinary driving, the power need not dominate every moment. Edmunds reports that the torque delivery does not call undue attention to itself on the road. Car and Driver likewise describes its R1T as easy to drive in everyday traffic and on a mountain pass despite the output. Those are reviewer impressions, not a substitute for choosing a suitable driving mode or adapting to the vehicle’s size and power.

On pavement
Car and Driver found the R1T manageable in normal traffic and on a mountain pass. In its test-track evaluation, the publication measured a 152-foot stop from 70 mph for its test vehicle under its test conditions. That is a publication measurement, not a Rivian specification, and should not be treated as a guaranteed stopping distance for every Quad.
Car and Driver describes RAD Tuner as offering adjustments for power response, regenerative braking, ride height, suspension stiffness, brake response, steering assist, torque balance, wheelspin and roll stiffness. That breadth makes it possible to tailor the vehicle’s behavior, though it also means a driver may need to spend time understanding and setting up modes rather than assuming the most aggressive configuration suits every road.

On trails
Edmunds’ rock-crawling account notes that finding traction can require wheelspin. The observation is a useful counterpoint to the Quad’s headline torque: four motors provide control options, but they do not make every obstacle a no-slip exercise. Rivian’s Kick Turn is designed for tight dirt and gravel turns; it is a specialized maneuvering feature, not a replacement for selecting an appropriate line and driving carefully.
Which wheels and tires make sense?
Rivian lists four standard Quad configurations: 22-inch Super Sport, 22-inch Sport Burnished Bronze, 20-inch All-Terrain Dark, and 20-inch Dune Satin Graphite All-Terrain. The two off-road configurations use 34-inch all-terrain tires, according to Rivian. Edmunds identifies the road-oriented setup as Rivian-spec 22-inch Michelin Pilot Sport S5 tires and the 20-inch all-terrain option as Pirelli Scorpion rubber.

| Configuration | Best understood as | What the available sources establish |
|---|---|---|
| 22-inch Super Sport or Sport Burnished Bronze | Road-oriented performance setup | The 22-inch road configuration is required for Rivian’s quickest 0–60 estimates. Edmunds identifies Rivian-spec Michelin Pilot Sport S5 tires. |
| 20-inch All-Terrain Dark or Dune Satin Graphite All-Terrain | Trail-oriented setup | Rivian specifies 34-inch all-terrain tires; Edmunds identifies Pirelli Scorpion rubber. |
The sources do not quantify a precise range penalty for each wheel-and-tire choice, so it would be misleading to assign one. Check the complete tire size and fitment before buying replacements; the tire model name alone does not establish compatibility with every wheel or vehicle configuration.

Rivian announced 2026 starting prices of $115,990 for the R1T Quad and $121,990 for the R1S Quad. Launch Edition versions started $4,000 higher: $119,990 and $125,990, respectively. These are the launch prices for the 2026 Quad, not current quotes.

Model-year labels matter because Rivian later announced a 2027 lineup with different trim naming and entry prices. Its 2027 announcement says the company is shifting from motor-count names such as Dual, Tri and Quad to Premium, Performance and Quad tiers; it lists lineup entry prices of $79,990 for R1T and $83,990 for R1S. Those are 2027 lineup entry prices, not 2026 Quad prices. The 2027 announcement repeats the Quad’s 1,025 hp, 1,198 lb-ft and up-to-374-mile EPA-estimated range. See Rivian’s 2027 update and its current comparison page for that later context.
Charging and included equipment
Rivian states that every model-year 2026 R1 gets a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) charge port and that every Quad includes a complimentary CCS DC adapter. This is the company’s statement in its Gen 2 Quad announcement; it does not establish a charging rate or charging time.
R1T Quad or R1S Quad?
The core powertrain output and the published range ceiling are shared. The R1T is the pickup, while the R1S is the three-row SUV; the main differences established here are body format, the small gap in Rivian’s acceleration estimates and launch price.
Quick Recap
- Choose the R1T if the pickup format better suits how you plan to carry gear or use the vehicle.
- Choose the R1S if you want the three-row SUV format rather than a pickup bed.
- Compare the actual configuration: wheel and tire selection affects the published range estimate and determines whether the quickest Rivian acceleration estimate applies.
