Power Wagon’s defining hardware includes a disconnecting front sway bar, front and rear electronic lockers, a two-inch factory lift, 33-inch all-terrain tires and Articulink high-movement front suspension. Rebel counters with 34-inch all-terrain tires, fuel-tank and transfer-case skid plates, a rear ELocker and, in the Lunar Edition configuration described by Ram, the 6.7-liter High-Output Cummins diesel.
That makes this a priorities comparison rather than a universal winner: choose Power Wagon for articulation, traction control and recovery equipment; choose the cited Rebel diesel configuration when heavy trailer and payload capacity matter most. The figures below apply to specific 2026 Lunar Edition configurations described by Ram, not automatically to every truck wearing either trim badge.

2026 Ram 2500 Power Wagon vs. Rebel at a glance
Both trims are heavy-duty 4×4 pickups with factory off-road equipment, but they are engineered around different use cases. Power Wagon concentrates on keeping the wheels planted over uneven terrain and helping the truck recover itself. Rebel combines trail protection and aggressive tires with a high-output diesel option and a conventional towing-focused heavy-duty setup.

What makes the Power Wagon different?
Articulation hardware for uneven trails
Power Wagon’s biggest distinction is its approach to keeping tires in contact with the ground. The front sway bar can disconnect, allowing more independent wheel movement when one side of the axle climbs an obstacle. Its Articulink front suspension uses high-movement joints to increase off-road articulation, and the factory lift creates additional clearance beneath the truck.
Those features matter on rocky two-track routes, cross-axle ditches and steep ledges where a rigidly connected sway bar can limit suspension travel. More wheel movement can reduce the need to lift a tire and can make the truck easier to control at low speed. The benefit is specialized trail performance, not a promise that every obstacle can be crossed without careful line choice, tire placement and recovery planning.
Front and rear electronic lockers
Power Wagon has electronic locking differentials at both axles. Locking the front differential can keep both front wheels driving when one has little traction; the rear locker serves the same purpose at the back. Drivers normally use lockers at low speed and disengage them when conditions no longer require maximum traction, because locked axles can increase steering resistance and driveline stress on high-traction surfaces.

The 33-inch all-terrain tires balance ground clearance, sidewall flex and road manners. They are smaller than Rebel’s 34-inch tires, but tire diameter alone does not determine trail capability. Power Wagon’s disconnecting sway bar, two-inch lift, dual lockers and Articulink suspension are the system that gives it its technical-trail identity.
Recovery equipment in the Lunar Edition Level 2 group
Ram’s March 3, 2026 announcement describes a front-integrated WARN ZEON-12 winch rated at 12,000 pounds and Mopar rock rails as part of the Power Wagon Lunar Edition Level 2 equipment. Those are package details, not evidence that every 2026 Power Wagon includes a winch or rock rails. Confirm the window sticker and build sheet before assuming either item is installed.

Power Wagon engine and published capacity
The HEMI 6.4-liter V8 in the Power Wagon Lunar Edition configuration described by Ram produces 405 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. Ram lists up to 1,570 pounds of payload and 10,590 pounds of towing for that configuration. These are “up to” figures tied to the described build, not guaranteed ratings for every Power Wagon cab, bed or option combination.
What makes the Rebel different?
Protection underneath the truck
Rebel’s off-road package starts with skid plates protecting the fuel tank and transfer case. That protection targets components that can be exposed when the truck drops onto a breakover or slides over a rock. It is a different emphasis from Power Wagon’s articulation hardware: Rebel protects vulnerable components while relying on its suspension, tires and rear traction system to maintain progress.

34-inch all-terrain tires
Rebel uses 34-inch all-terrain tires, giving the truck a larger contact patch and additional clearance at the axle and differential than a comparable smaller tire. Larger tires can help roll over ruts and obstacles, but they also add rotating mass and can affect gearing, ride and clearance around the body. The tire specification should therefore be considered alongside the diesel powertrain and suspension rather than as a stand-alone measure of capability.
Rear ELocker with passive limited-slip behavior
The Rebel’s rear ELocker can lock the rear axle when extra traction is needed. When it is not engaged, Ram describes it as functioning as a passive limited-slip differential. Rebel does not receive the Power Wagon’s front electronic locker in the cited equipment description, so the two trucks manage front-axle traction differently on loose or uneven ground.
Suspension choices
A standard rear coil-link suspension is listed for Rebel, with an available automatic-leveling rear air suspension. Automatic leveling can help maintain ride height when a load is added, but availability and ratings depend on the specific build. The equipment does not turn every Rebel into a Power Wagon-style articulation truck; the trims use different hardware priorities.

High-output Cummins option and capacity
Ram’s current 2026 model information lists the High-Output Cummins as available on Rebel. In the Lunar Edition configuration described in the March 3 announcement, the 6.7-liter diesel produces 430 horsepower and 1,075 pound-feet of torque. Ram publishes up to 3,300 pounds of payload and 19,890 pounds of towing for that configuration—far above the cited HEMI Power Wagon figures.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe diesel’s advantage is especially relevant for large trailers, steep grades and repeated heavy-duty work, where its 1,075 lb-ft torque output can reduce the need for high engine speed. It does not remove the need to verify hitch type, axle ratings, trailer brakes, payload and the truck’s gross-combination limit.
Rebel Lunar Edition Level 2 equipment
Ram says the Rebel Lunar Edition Level 2 group adds power-deployable side steps. They can make cab access easier without permanently hanging a low step below the rocker area. They are not a substitute for rock rails or a winch, and the exact installed content should be checked on the vehicle’s build sheet.
Trail behavior: which trim suits which terrain?
Choose Power Wagon for technical, slow-speed terrain
Power Wagon is the more logical choice when your routes include ledges, deep cross-axle ruts, rock gardens and situations where one or more wheels regularly unload. The disconnecting sway bar and Articulink joints allow greater suspension movement, while front and rear lockers provide traction at both axles. The factory lift and available Lunar Edition winch further support a recovery-oriented trail setup.
These advantages are most useful when the driver is willing to select low range, use lockers deliberately and place the tires precisely. They do not guarantee clearance for every rock or protect every body panel; approach, departure and breakover angles still depend on the exact truck and its equipment.

Choose Rebel for mixed use with heavy towing
Rebel fits buyers who want factory trail protection and large all-terrain tires but spend substantial time hauling equipment or towing a large trailer. The cited High-Output Cummins Lunar Edition’s 19,890-pound towing figure and 3,300-pound payload figure are dramatically higher than the published Power Wagon Lunar Edition figures. Rebel’s skid plates protect key underbody components, while the rear ELocker supplies additional traction when the trail gets loose.
Because these capacity figures are tied to one announced configuration, a Rebel with a different engine, cab, bed, axle or options may have a different rating. A diesel Rebel is not automatically rated at 19,890 pounds.

Published figures are not interchangeable across trucks
Ram’s 2024 Heavy Duty Payload & Towing Weight Capacities guide says maximum capacities depend on proper equipment and rounds weights to the nearest 10 pounds. Its warning is important: payload and trailer weight ratings are mutually exclusive. Using the full payload rating can reduce the remaining capacity for trailer tongue weight, passengers, cargo and accessories; using the maximum trailer rating likewise requires the truck to stay within its payload and axle limits.
Check GVWR, GAWR and GCWR
- GVWR: the maximum permitted weight of the loaded truck.
- GAWR: the maximum permitted load on each axle.
- GCWR: the maximum permitted combined weight of truck and trailer.
Do not exceed any of these limits. A trailer that is below the headline tow rating can still overload the truck’s payload or rear axle once passengers, fuel, hitch hardware and cargo are added.
Hitch requirements for the heaviest trailers
Ram’s guide says fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitches are required for trailers over 18,000 pounds. The hitch, receiver, ball or fifth-wheel assembly must itself be rated for the load, and the trailer must have suitable brakes and safety equipment. Confirm the requirements in the exact owner’s manual and certification information before towing.
Use the vehicle label, not a generic internet number
Before buying, photograph the driver-door certification label and obtain the truck’s build sheet. Compare the label’s GVWR and axle ratings with the trailer’s actual loaded weight, tongue or pin weight and cargo plan. Ram’s Lunar Edition figures are useful for comparing the announced configurations, but they cannot replace this vehicle-specific check.
Price, availability and model-year cautions
Lunar Edition prices are dated special-edition figures
Ram’s March 3, 2026 announcement lists a starting price of $86,385 for the Power Wagon Lunar Edition and $93,885 for the Rebel Lunar Edition, with destination included where specified. It also lists the Lunar package at $1,995. These are prices for the announced special editions, not base-trim prices or guaranteed current quotes for every dealer, region or option combination. Taxes, registration, dealer charges and later pricing changes can alter the transaction total.
Diesel timing and preproduction qualification
Ram’s current model page projects the Power Wagon diesel option for availability in the second half of 2026 and cautions that preproduction vehicles and features may vary. Availability can therefore depend on production timing, market and final certification. Ask the dealer for a current VIN-specific build sheet and delivery status rather than relying on an early announcement.
Warranty statement
Ram’s 2026 announcement says the trucks are backed by a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty. Verify the current written warranty, exclusions, transfer rules and eligibility for the exact vehicle and market before treating that statement as a purchase term.
Which Ram 2500 should you buy?
Power Wagon is the better fit when:
- Your priority is slow-speed rock, mud and uneven-terrain performance rather than maximum trailer weight.
- You want front and rear electronic lockers instead of a rear-only locking system.
- A disconnecting front sway bar, two-inch lift and Articulink suspension are more valuable to you than a high-output diesel.
- You want the possibility of an integrated winch and rock rails, provided the specific Lunar Edition Level 2 truck includes them.
Rebel is the better fit when:
- You need a heavy-duty pickup that can also tow a large trailer and the exact build carries the appropriate rating.
- The High-Output Cummins’ 1,075 lb-ft torque is useful for your grades, trailer weight or work cycle.
- Fuel-tank and transfer-case skid plates and 34-inch tires meet your trail needs without requiring Power Wagon’s front locker and disconnecting sway bar.
- You prefer available automatic-leveling rear air suspension or power-deployable side steps on the chosen configuration.
Neither trim should be selected from the badge alone
Two trucks with the same trim name can differ in cab, bed, engine, axle, suspension and options. A trailer buyer should start with the actual certification label and loaded weights. A trail buyer should inspect tire size, clearance, skid plates, locker controls, recovery points and whether the advertised Lunar Edition equipment is installed.
Buying checklist for a 2026 truck
- Identify the exact cab, bed, engine, axle and four-wheel-drive configuration.
- Read the driver-door certification label for GVWR and front- and rear-axle ratings.
- Match the truck’s payload to passengers, fuel, hitch hardware, tools and trailer tongue or pin weight.
- Confirm the trailer’s loaded weight and whether it exceeds the 18,000-pound threshold that Ram’s guide associates with a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch.
- For a Power Wagon, verify the front and rear lockers, sway-bar disconnect, winch and rock rails on the build sheet.
- For a Rebel, verify the rear ELocker, skid plates, tire size, engine and any rear air-suspension or side-step option.
- Ask for the latest warranty booklet, pricing worksheet and delivery timing for the VIN you are considering.
Bottom line
Power Wagon is the purpose-built technical trail choice: its front and rear lockers, disconnecting front sway bar, Articulink suspension and factory lift address articulation and traction directly. Rebel is the more compelling heavy-hauling choice in the cited Lunar Edition form, where the High-Output Cummins brings 1,075 lb-ft of torque and Ram publishes up to 19,890 pounds of towing and 3,300 pounds of payload. Those figures are not universal trim ratings, so make the final decision from the exact truck’s build sheet, certification label and intended terrain.
