The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift is no longer just a camouflaged prototype: Mercedes-Benz unveiled it in Stuttgart on January 29, 2026. The spy photos showed a pre-reveal test car; the manufacturer has since confirmed the production design, including twin-star headlights, a larger illuminated grille and rear lamps with three star motifs.
What changed on the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?
Mercedes-Benz says more than 50 percent of the refreshed car—about 2,700 components—has been newly developed or redesigned. The exterior changes are especially visible in its lighting signatures and grille. The details below are manufacturer descriptions, not independent assessments of lighting performance.
What do the new S-Class headlights and front end look like?
Twin-star DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps
The redesigned DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps use a twin-star visual signature. Mercedes-Benz says the micro-LED system expands the high-resolution illumination field; Mercedes-Benz Korea puts the increase at approximately 40 percent. That is a manufacturer comparison, not a result of independent comparative testing. Mercedes-Benz Norway’s S-Class model page also describes the revised front lights and DIGITAL LIGHT projection functions.
A larger illuminated grille and optional lit hood star
The grille is approximately 20 percent larger than the previous design, according to Mercedes-Benz, and has an illuminated surround and redesigned three-dimensional chrome stars. An illuminated standing hood star is available as an option; Mercedes-Benz describes this as a first for the S-Class. Availability of features can vary by model, configuration and market.

What changed at the rear?
The redesigned taillamps incorporate three chrome-framed star motifs. Mercedes-Benz Norway also describes dynamic light animation in the rear lamps. Light projectors in the side sills cast Mercedes-Benz branding beside the car, adding another illuminated detail beyond the front and rear signatures.
What did the spy photos show—and what is confirmed now?
A heavily camouflaged S-Class prototype was reported undergoing cold-weather testing in a video published by autoevolution on January 13, 2025. Observers noted a star-themed lighting signature, but camouflage limited what could be established about the finished car. The later official reveal confirmed the twin-star headlamps and three-star rear lamps; prototype-era speculation about other final-production details should not be treated as confirmation. When will the refreshed S-Class be available?
Timing depends on the market. Mercedes-Benz’s Germany press kit says online configuration and ordering opened January 30, 2026. Mercedes-Benz Korea announced a planned Korean-market launch in the second half of 2026. Those dates do not establish one global on-sale date, and German ordering information or pricing should not be assumed to apply elsewhere.
